in even the blandest of Hitchcock films. You have to admire the way he works.

Or at least I do. Then again, I'm shamelessly biased because Hitchcock is my favorite director of all time.

although saying i like paths of glory is tough to do (and i know most people would replace paths of glory with eyes wide shut), but i'm me.

wes anderson, but he's only made like 3 films so far.

george clooney, but again 2 movies and i suspect soderbergh does most of the work.

Leslie Nielsen can't not be funny, though that's probably the closest he ever came. Peter MacNicol almost ruins that movie, but I still watch it when it comes on TV. It's certainly my least favorite Mel Brooks.

In response to Reply # 0

The only one I could think of was Charlie Chaplin.

I've seen every feature film Chaplin directed except one (Countess From Hong Kong).

I love them all. The Kid, A Woman Of Paris, The Gold Rush, The Circus, City Lights, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, Monsieur Verdoux, Limelight, and A King In New York.

I think all of those films are excellent and essential. Some more than others perhaps, but there's not a single one I don't like.

And Chaplin would be the only director whose filmography I find so completely rewarding.

(F.W. Murnau would be the only other one I can think of who even comes close, but I still have a couple more of his (available) films to see).

however, i've been hoping for a remake for a long time. I don't think George Roy Hill quite captured the atmosphere of the novel (and some might think thats a good thing). Would love to see someone else take a crack at it.

Walter Hill never made a movie I didn't like bewteen 1975 and 1987.

Savage Steve Holland never made a movie I didn't like on the big screen.

Sam Raimi never made a movie I didn't like but I have only seen from Evil Dead - Spider-Man 2. And YES I actually liked "Crimewave!" and I only liked "The Gift" for 4 reasons: Cate Blanchette, Katie Holmes' breasts, and Giovanni Ribisi dies. Pretty much any movie with Giovanni Ribisi eating it would be a great film for me.

I'd like to know the back story on that flick. I've heard it took ten years to make. Do they mean from screenplay to film, or did it take ten years to actually FILM. Because DeNiro's aging looked real. It didn't look like makeup. What gives?

Either way, I remember when it came out how the critics all loved it, and said it was one of the greatest Gangster epics ever. I just saw it as a good character study. I wouldn't really call it a Gangster movie. I dug it though...
