"Movies you incorrectly thought would bomb."

These are the two that really stick out in my mind. I remember watching this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM5yepZ21pI. It reminded me a bit of Dark City in tone, except with a worse cast (who liked Keanu in anything post-Speed?) and far more dramatic slow motion. I thought for sure it'd just be another failed Keanu Reeves vehicle. Whoops.

The second trailer I remember scoffing at was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2sDw-XBuKc. I mocked it at the time, with its trailer chock full of corny quotes, like "Please make them go away." and, "You know the prickly things on the back of your neck?....That's them." It sounded like nothing new to me. Worse, it seemed like a serious Bruce Willis horror movie, and most of Bruce's hits (and in my opinion, his better movies) allowed him to wisecrack and show his natural charisma. Here, he just seemed to be whispering the whole damn time. Whoops again.

Cop to a flick you totally misjudged here.

Wasn't it just supposed to be some dumb summer sci-fi action flick to hold us over until the Star Wars prequels came out?

Who knew it would go on to spawn a bad trilogy of its own.

I loved every movie, Animatrix, the documentaries based on the film...etc. I thought the idea, spirituality, philosophy and all were stellar. I was glad to watch a series of films that thought outside the box. But that's just me.

I was in 8th grade and remember seeing the trailer and being like I HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE. Before the shit even came out we'd be playing dodge ball or ball tag or something and someone would be like "Watch me Matrix this shit" and proceed to slowly bridge backwards, arms waving. This was a good 3-4 weeks before the movie came out. I never gave a fuck about Star Wars so that wasn't even on my radar but The Matrix was huge with us from the minute we saw the trailer.

But I do know I was geeked as hell to see it. I think I caught it on opening weekend before the hype machine went into over-overdrive. My brother and I came out the theatre thinking we had just seen the future of sci-fi/action movies.

Game Plan - I misread just how starved people were for family films. But I cringed every time I saw a commercial.

I just don't get Juno. I have no desire to see it, and I'm surprised anyone else did.

Seriously, I was about to post something to the effect of "Hey, let's wait until it comes out."

Talk about forgettable.

I'll admit that the first one is a guilty pleasure, though. But I thought they should've quit while they were ahead. I guess they showed me.

The way this terrible warrior king still had to secretly use his cherished pacifier to fall asleep at night, all because of the time he accidentally killed that butterfly when he was three...devastating.

I thought that would fly under the radar, I didn't know movies like that had an audience. Elf and Old School... I didn't know anyone watched those movies. My friend went to see Anchorman 2 or 3 times it's opening weekend and finally convinced me to go see it with him. I had absolutely no intention of watching that movie... So we went and it was fucking hilarious. I saw it again when they showed it for free at my school and bought the dvd the first week it came out.

I believe it was the 2nd week in theatres, only a dozen people were in the room, it was a Satruday night too, anyways, i laughed so much...well at the time I talked to people who've seen it, all they can say it was stupid and advise me not to watch it.

I had precedent, too: Jason Lee's "great" film adaptation of Underdog flopped, and I thought for sure that "Chipmunks" would do the same. It looked like crap to me. I underestimated the family film audience. That sucker's grossed over $200 million.

They used to do those college advanced screenings, and if I remember correctly, this one was sparsely attended... I mean, it's a FREE, goofy-looking movie, with the dude from In Living Color, surely everybody would want to see that, right? No.
