as far as the big O goes, he wasnt magic johnson or anything, iverson guards guys his size all the time. but, the fact that its not a "one on one game of horse shit" where I think robertson gets an edge, he was a big time asset to every club he balled on and did it all, score, dish, rebound, defend. he was no joke.

Wilt, Hakeem, Shaq, probably Bird, Magic, Mike, Oscar, Jerry West, Baylor, and the list starts to get questionable from there. Maybe the Doc, John Stockton, and a few other heads, I'd have to really think about it.


On the injury tip, AI is a tough son of a bitch, but I dont think its fair to knock a cat like GH for not playing. I am sure if Allen had an injury that was real serious he wouldnt play, he had a 48 game season one year and his first 82 game year was last year.

I think he is the best guard in this era, this has been argued at length recently so I am kinda tired of it.

Man, would I love for him to get a title before he retires. Greer got one along with Wilt, the Doc got one and with them all of the other pre-Barkley Sixers greats (W. Jones, Walker, Cunningham, B. Jones, Moses, Cheeks) got at least one. I felt bad when Chuck didnt get his, even after he left the Sixers I was pulling hard that he get one, but I never felt like he got robbed or anything. With AI, as hard as he plays and as much as he wants to win on that floor, I get the feeling like he just flat out deserves at least one ring. It's gonna take a miracle at this point though. One of these days I pray they are going to bring in a dominant big man (not Mutombo!) who can help him get it.

And as far as titles are concerned, give Iverson teamates named Rodman, Dumars, Laimbeer, Edwards, Johnson, and a head coach who isn't a passive-agressive bitch(Larry Brown), replace him with a real coach(Daly) and he might have a ring. Larry Brown single handedly ended any chance of Iverson every winning a ring with his horrendous decisions(Ratliff for Kukoc,etc).

Don't forget that Iverson snapped the Lakers' undefeated streak in 2000. That was one of the most dominating performances by a single player I've ever seen. He pissed all over the Lakers in LA, by himself.

I dont wanna detract from your argument though. AI has won 3 scoring titles and finished top 5 several times in scoring. Some guys just dont have the teams. At what point do we value a title over a player's skill? Is any hall of famer who won a title automatically better than one that didnt? I dont think so, names like Baylor and Barkley spring to mind as arguably the two best ever at their positions despite never winning a championship. Take a 2 guard or almost any guard off any title team other than the Bulls maybe and you wouldnt miss a beat with AI in there. Lenny Wilkens, Andrew Toney, Kobe Bryant, Joe Dumars or Zeke, Nate Archibald, Frazier/Monroe, Greer/Walker on and on...

AI has done huge things in playoff games. Yeah I know he didnt have a great series against Detroit, but who did? Individually last year no player really schooled them, look how they did T Mac dirty after falling down 3-1. Against NO he had 55 in game 1 and 45 in game 6, tell me that isnt coming up HUGE? And of course the Lakers game 1 and really most of that series, along with that whole season/playoffs as has been mentioned.

You really cant knock this cat like he is garbage and shit, even relative to the league's other top players; bottom line, all there is to it. that said, i do agree that a lack of competition has made shaq better. you look at the lack of competiton wilt and russell had and it was sort of similar, but at least they had one another to play 12 times a year and in the playoffs and they did A LOT more title and stat wise. Kareem is better than Shaq because he played against Wilt, Walton, Cownens, Hayes, Olajuwon, Ewing, and I could go on for weeks, he played forever and kicked ass all over the place. This has to be the funniest shit I have read all day.Shaq is one of the 5 greatest centers of all-time.He has amazing footwork for somebody who is 7-1 and 330 pounds.And he does have range out to 15 feet on his jumper.Now he is not in my Holy trinity of centers which is Wilt,Russell and Kareem.But I do give credit where credit is due.

smith was a great back but come on, he had a line that was a million times better and his reliability both in his week-in week-out play and over his career are his real strengths. Speaking as an Eagles fan who saw Smith at his best at least twice a year (fucker), I think I can say that seeing Barry at his best was much more impressive and entertaining, allegiances aside (I also like the Bears so I am not nuts about Motown either).

I think Emmitt-Barry, Russell-Wilt and so on are pretty good parallels for the Kobe-AI debate. The former gets more wins, gets love in some circles. The latter has better numbers, looks more dominant individually, is typically more popular with fans but in the end doesnt get the same love from the media as a champion/GOAT etc

look at head to head games, i doubt kobe even has the advantage in scoring, steals or assists, Kobe cant lock him down except one game I seen where he held him to like 18. They gotta double team him all day, Sixers guard Kobe one on one pretty often. McKie used to be one of the better "kobe stoppers" and lately they have stayed one-on-one against him although I admit he has hurt them sometimes. Every year the teams split their meetings, and Kobe doesnt outshine Allen.

Actually, only one cat has bragged about being an AI stopped, Patterson, and we all know he is full of shit. At times I seen guys lock him down, Bowen did a great job in the playoffs and until recently he had some problems against cats like Christie, Mckie (getting old now) etc.

That said, no one brags about being an AI stopped because cant nobody stop him one on one!

one thing though, mckie has had a couple years where he'd be the sixth man on any team, dont hate, especially since you are reppin philly/temple. he is a strong player, not a star but a cat who would get serious burn anywhere throughout the better years of his career. i think snow, as he has developed, could start on a lotta clubs too. there is a reason those three guards have been the core of the team and the only holdvers year after year

if AI is getting mentioned with zeke and tiny, he must be ill. personally think he is better than zeke and up there with Archibald, time will tell. Tiny was pretty fucking raw, that year when he won the scoring title and averaged like ten dimes a game is pretty amazing. I'd have to see more of his play, I have only seen maybe a dozen games whereas zeke and allen I have watched through most/their whole careers
