yanks should take this in four, but it could easily be a sweep as long as mariano closes every tight game.

Yankees in 5.

I expect to see bad pitching by the yankee starters in detroit and ridiculous hitting by the yankees throughout series.

I think yankees must take the first 2 games... cause i'm not expecting much from randy and wright.

But then again that yankee lineup is sick they can put up 7 runs in an inning easy.

Yeah i say yankees in 5.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I think we see one dominant Tigers pitching performance but other than that the yanks offense dominates. I say all this hoping it jinxes de Jankees.

Behind New York, LA, and Chicago. Not bad for a non-major market.

If you throw in NCAA titles in basketball from Michigan State and basketball and football for Michigan, you don't really have much of a case.

I'm sure you've spent ample time in Detroit to be able to accurately judge what an awful place it is.

I can tell you this much, if people in New York as a whole are anything like the faggots from New York I had to deal with in Ann Arbor, I hope I never set foot in the entire state.

OK, A's fan advising me on winning. Come talk to me once you make it to the ALCS. Until then, it'd make a lot more sense to shut the fuck up and get ready to go up 2-0 and blow another series

oh and since you are so set on quoting history to us the A's have won their fair share of titles too. But we understand that doesn't mean shit right now. Different teams in different eras aren't a good way to judge whats going to happen in the 2006 playoffs.

but you are a Yankee fan. All you really know how to do is talk shit

The Yankees have won 26 World Series in 39 appearances (which, since the first World Series in 1903, currently amounts to an average appearance every 2.8 seasons and a championship every 3.9 seasons). Please keep replying, you look smarter as your post count increases.

And you wonder why people hate the Yankee and their fans

I doubt the Yankees would even sniff 500 if they had a payrol even double that of the A's and Twins

u never answered the question....

trim ur payroll and take away 5 of ur highest paid players...see how good would u do with a 120 million dollar budget ( still would be the highest in baseball though )

giambi = 20
arod = 15
mussina 20
jeter = 20
unit = 15

thats 90 million a year right there..thats almost the entire payroll of the mets and they ended with the same record ...lol

No.....just no. A rational human being wouldn't even address this issue because if the Yankees had to work with a lot less money then their entire team would be restructured with different personnel and it is impossible to estimate who would be on the team because it would affect everyone who is on every other team. A lot of the players you named wouldn't be there and a lot of players on other teams would be on the Yankees. In other words it's completely irrational and hence the unicorn comment. Thanks for wasting everyone's time though.....seriously

ok so u dont think the fact that the yankees can cover up their deficiences with money instead of being creative, the only person riding that unicorn is you.

most teams cant just pick up a bobby abreau and add 13 million to their payroll when their corner outfielders go down...

what did the yanks do to get abreau?

trade some low level prospects for lidle and abreau so philly can dump their salary on george...same thing the rockies did last year with shawn chacon...same thing they did when traded for mondesi..

look at how omar worked it out this year when we lost one of our core relievers...

for example.
duaner sanchez gets hurt and now the mets have to scramble 1 day before the trading deadline to get
a decent reliever, they trade a starting corner outfielder ( NADY ) to the pirates for bullpen help ( Roberto Hernandez ) and a pitcher with some potential by ( Oliver Perez ). Now to replace Nady they trade a C level prospect ( evan mc clane ) for shawn green, arizona picks up 10 million of his 13 million dollar contract. now the mets are on the hook for only 3 mill. on shawn green.
not to mention floyd is gonna be a free agent so LF will probably be patrolled by endy ( makin less than a mill ) and millege is either trade bait or will be groomed for RF...all this to probably save money to sign zito up...

the point is, the yanks play by a completely different set of rules than just about any other team in baseball, yes they ar e allowed to spend as much as they want, but can they really compete with the yanks in a bidding war?

this just makes the fact that they dont win a ring EVERY year, completely fuckin patheic. lol

Both you and him were talking about a what if scenario if the Yankees didn't have the ability to pay the highest salaries and the if makes no sense because the entire franchise would be changed. Now you're bringing up the Mets, which wasn't even part of the discussion and the fact that the Yankees can cover up deficiencies with is the whole fucking point, they can so there is no reason to discuss "ifs" until they do not have the money and have to. I feel sorry for whoever hands you a paycheck, it's almost as if you just wanted to type all of that shit out without paying any attention to context or relevance to whatever (non)point you were trying to make. Congratulations

ummmm, thats the point, with the way they have traded away their young players ( nick johnson, dinoneer navaro, ted lilly, etc )
they have no farm system...and take away the ability to sign the highest paid players, what are u left with..

ur hard-headed, face it, with the current stragey, without the cash, ur a 3rd place team AT BEST...lol
ur GM is no where near as talented as Omar, Billy Beane, or even the dude in florida...

Now you're bringing up the Mets, which wasn't
>even part of the discussion

using them as an example of how another team covers up their deficiencies...
when the mets needed a starter this year, they couldve traded the house for zito ( lord knows we could use him now )
the A's wanted Milledge and Heilmann..Omar told them to go fuck themselves...
the mets couldve traded for wells, abreau, carlos lee...no, instead they trade for shawn green and get him for 3mil...
green helps the met advance with 3 RBI's and good D vs. the dodgers...

o by the way, mets are already grooming anderson hernandez to take over 2b and they have a ton of catching prospects to take over when lo duca gets old

but if u want, I'll use the A's instead....
signing Frank Thomas to an incentive filled contract for alot cheaper than alot of free agents were last year was a shrewd business baseball move that the yankees would never had done

and the fact that the Yankees can
>cover up deficiencies with is the whole fucking point, they
>can so there is no reason to discuss "ifs" until they do not
>have the money and have to.

what ur missing out on, is the fact that u cant keep adding on the best thing out on the market and think its gonna move u closer to a ring..
u fuck with team cohesiveness and ur team doesnt get a chance to gel...u cant BUY team chemistry
the yanks in 96 got built from 90...they had to hit ROCK BOTTOM first, they started with Bernie ( ROY ) ...developed a rocksolid bullpen from 93..then they got jeter ( ROY ), mariano, and petite in 95..mix in some vets ( key, duncan, cecil, tim raines )
and presto, u have a champion mix...

the formula and the people who created it, are no longer there..

OK......do you feel better now? You aren't even arguing what the whole comment was about, which was the impossibility of an "if" scenario and now you're disccusing things that I wasn't even entertaining nor do I particularly care about. I hope you're atleast getting something out of it because the only issue I was addressing was the fact that talking about the "ifs" of a team having $100M less than they do is about as logical as me discussing living on half of my salary, I don't have to, so I don't. Feel free to add on with some more shit that I won't read.

I don't think the Tigers have to offense to overcome that inning & I'd bet NY scores a few more runs.

Shaky bullpenning and premature pulling of Wang aside I enjoyed what I saw.

If this team can follow Jeter's lead this postseason will be something special.

hopefully torre doesn't fuck up again and manages the bullpen better after tonight. at least he admitted he fucked up in the presser, so that's a start.

and farnsworth has to throw strikes consistently, thus far in the postseason he's approaching felix "electric stuff" heredia...

gotta knock verlander around tomorrow and completely shatter the tigers confidence to the point that not even old ass leyland can help them.

At least in this series, a 3-4 run lead every game shouldnt be too hard to pull off so you guys should be ok, especially with Mussina who should be able to do at least what Wang did.

I dont know if you guys knew but Wang is pronounced wong and he is from Tawain. Hes not bad either but for their 1st playoff game they didnt look scared or intimidated so I still think they may have a chance.

Eg, at least making contact on a hit and run, sending runners from third when they could clearly score, not hitting into double plays with runners at the corners, fielding routing grounders back to the pitcher, etc etc.

This team is too good to waste opportunities and give them extra.

Tonight is the series. JV needs to come up HUGE, and we need to continue to work the bats, this time though, doing the aforementioned little things that are the difference between 4 and 7 runs. If we can get to Mussina, that Yankee middle relief is shaky as hell.

I got the Tig's 5-4 tonight, heading back to CoPa with a full head of steam.

I kept saying last night that the score wasnt as bad as it looked and then they pulled within 2. And then the game swung back around. I really thought it wasnt inconceivable that a team could have stuck around with the Yankees middle relief and even Wang. The Tigers really didnt capitalize at key pts. The double play Polanco hit into really symbolized the whole attempt.

Didnt want to take it there. But the ever-arrogant comment of "the Tigers arent good" left me no choice. They're obviously good. I just assumed a fan of a superteam with nine all stars in the lineup would be more humble, understanding your team has a leg up on the rest of the league, with unlimited resources. I was wrong.

>Every playoffs same thing. Before the series they think
>whatever team they pulling for will win the series SOON as the

I never thought we'd win the series.

>"oh well look at the YANKEES payroll"

>Umm did the ANGELS care about the YANKEES payroll last year?

That's the thing. Despite the absolutely ridiculous payroll, a roster chock full of all stars, the Yanks have come up short the past 5 years. This year is just beyond ridiculous.

>
>Your better than that man!

Again, didnt want to take that route. Just cant stand these holier than thou Yankee fans who look down on the rest of the league, like I give a fuck.

9 All Stars. One lineup.

Yes, your team is better.

Good for you.

In response to Reply # 92

Meaning they try, but as of late, have come up short.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe all their success of the past 10 years is due to shrewd manuevering and talent management.

Right.

Nothing wrong with it though. Though I'm not much of a hockey fan, I watched the Wings do it on multiple occasions, at the expense of the Tigers. It's not against the rules, so by all means, purchase away. If the Tigers had a $300 million dollar payroll, I'd be at every parade just the same. I just dont see the point in being overtly cocky about it.

but if think it's just payroll that brings you back from down 0-2 vs ATLANTA then I dont know what to tell you.

Hell you said TIGERS in 4. So you seem pretty sure that despite the payroll of the YANKEES the TIGERS are gonna take the series.

You say "fail" to purchased which means you buy into you can "succeed" into buying a championship. Can payroll stop RIVERA or JETER from getting hurt? How well did that payroll look when the YANKEES were 4-5 behind BOSTON? Did AROD paycheck stop him from slumping or making errors??

Like I said your better than coppin that plea homey.

yankees in the late 90's are NOTHING like the Yankees of 2001-2006...

completely different team with grunts mixed with rookies and some highly priced vets....

i dont think scott brocious was the highest paid player in baseball getting booed and tino and paul werent getting juiced up like sheff and giambi...

plus that bullpen was SICK...wetteland, mariano, stanton, jeff nelson..

these yankees are NOT those yankees...

uhh i came in at post 148...that wasnt the beginning...and I made valid points, but valid is subjective so whatever...

the Point really is...u made a Patrick Ewing style prediction and now u have to put ur foot ( or cock ) in ur mouth...

and you continue to follow me around.....better question
>would be, how does my cock taste tool

if u werent so stubborn and learned to just ADMIT when u are wrong, maybe i wouldnt have to shit on u every chance i get...

but then again talking to an arrogant cocky yankee fan is like talking to the wall...ur probably still surfing the tv wondering what time ur team is gonna play...

why would I be mad?

im not the one who came up here talkin shit about how easy my opponent would be and then get shitted on when i have to put my foot in my mouth..

in general, i hate it when people cant admit that they're wrong...

notice that NOBODY responded to the yankee fan in the thread who came out and admitted he took a L on this...

just admit u had to eat ur words and keep it movin..the longer u keep trying to defend urself, the worse u look...

by the way, lets not lose sight that the reason this whoooole argument came out was when you said...

the tigers arent that good
sorry, but this is gonna be a quick one..

it branched out and other topics got involved...

so AGAIN, as I said before, next time watch what you say, you only make yourself look stupid when you jinx your team...

You dont wanna go out there and only get 4-5 innings in, and then have the pitchers come back in.....you cant do that in a game with this magnitutude and with the importance of these two pitchers imo.

lot's of weird shit is going on with this cancellation...Most of this has been supposively confirmed, some probably not.

Detroit was not informed of a cancellation. Bonnie Bernstein said before the game that selig specifically talked about how starting the game would be a disadvantage to mussina if it went into another delays. When told the game was going to start at 10, Verlander was out stretching and going through his pregame routine. Mussina wasn't even on the field. Apparently the Yankee's knew of the cancellation 10-15 mins earlier then the tigers, so that's why verlander and the team were out and not the yankees. Also, some have been saying that the yankee's openly protested the 10 pm start. Leyland supposively is livid right now.

Tigers also do not have a place to stay because they already had checked out of their hotel.

Espn and the yankee's were probably worried about the rain making jeter's mascara run.

Go Tigers

bud hates the yankees!? That's straight up comedy.

here's some espn quotes for you
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2006/news/story?id=2613630

"While it hardly rained, the second game of the AL Division Series between Detroit and the New York Yankees was postponed Wednesday night."

"A light rain began at 8:24 p.m., and it rained off and on until the grounds crew removed the tarp at 9:37 p.m. During the regular season, games usually continue through rain of that magnitude."

and once they told the game was going to be played...the yankee's protested.

Go Tigers

a-rod isn't the problem, every pitch that he struck out on in yesterday's game were nasty and virtually unhittable yet spotted perfectly in the edge of the strike zone. i can't fault him for that...

robbie is the one who's killing us right now. dude went from being arguably the best hitter post all-star break to a worthless, hacking piece of shit.

we need him to get going, a dose of kenny rogers should do the trick.

randy johnson and jared wright. Uhhh ok. Maybe now I dont have to listen to ESPN asking "is this YANKEE lineup the best lineup ever"?

No I dont blame AROD, YANKEE fan gotta come to grip with the fact AROD is just a piece of the puzzle. If our winning this series depends on the back of AROD then we are in trouble.

TIGERS threw lights out.

We're not good, but in a good spot. Isnt that an oxymoron, some sort of double negative or somethin?

I mean, come on, relax. This series has been over. Playing the actual games is a mere formality. Yanks in 3.

I still think the Yankees will win(K Rogers has a +8 ERA in the playoffs), but that was a solid performance yesterday so now they have momentum and a wildcard is on the mound for the Yankees.

That's besides the point. Pot shots at the city's socio-economic state?? Kinda lame shit is that?

I should expect it from you at this point, I suppose.

Fuck that. Let's talk about Joel Zumaya mowin down $87 million worth of Yankee property in less than two innings. Let's talk about Randy's stiff back holding up in this cold Michigan weather. A-Rod's continued gagging. Hey man...

Let's talk baseball.

Crazy, I know. Maybe stop handing out tissues, and fuck it. Give it a try.

I'll still take Randy's sore back over Kenny "1st half of the season hero, 2nd half of the season zero" Rogers. Then again, he did beat the shit out of someone outside the stadium the other day so maybe he is amped up

Conventional thinking is they would want the Yankees in primetime. However, Having the Mets and Dodgers in primetime is better. The two largest markets is what they really want. Plus a 4pm start for Mets/Dodgers is 1pm West Coast time and they don't want that.

i don't like this line-up.

i'd rather have melky in LF, Matsui DH'ing and Giambi at 1B.

oh well, hopefully bernie goes 3-4 with a few rbi's and proves me wrong.

Not looking good at all for the Yankees. The way Rogers is pitching, mixed in with the bullpen and how the Yankees are hitting today, not looking good at all. I don't want to give up before it's over, but I will say Jarret Wright better step up his fucking game.

6-0 Tigers.

Rogers pitched one hell of a game. Just nasty the whole game. They took him out with a runner on and 3 out in the 8th and brought in Zumaya who got A-rod to fly out. Should Zumaya keep this performance up for however long the Tigers remain in the playoffs, I can see this becoming his 1996 Mariano or 2002 K-Rod playoff performsnce- the young hard-throwing set-up man dominates the league. Within a year or two they're an established dominant closer and still lights out.

I dunno, but we really miss that Andy Pettite type performance. When we cant find a way to score at least we had a starter to keep the games like the last 2 close and keep us in the game. Too inconsistent in all facets of our game. Everyone knows that your weaknesses get magnified in the playoffs and its starting to look like the same exact playoff performances from the last few years. Its not over yet but Jaret is pitching tomorrow and our pen is overworked all season. If we lose Im rooting for the Mets (I cant believe I just said that).

You said it about the Pettite performance. I said that same thing to someone earlier when they asked if I was happy about Johnson pitching tonight. Also could have used Paul O'Neill up with some runners on a few times. But oh well, nothing they can really do about any of that. They wanted to fill the entire roster with huge name superstars and that's what they did. Just have to hope they pull their shit together tomorrow and Sunday.

The Yankees were 0-for-18 with runners on base in their Game 3 loss to the Tigers. That's the worst such performance for any team in any game in postseason history.

I mean it's always possible to win a Game 5 or a Game 7 in the Bronx just because anything's possible in baseball. But in the back of your mind, you know you don't want it to get that far.

And on a sidenote: I can enjoy almost any baseball game but cheering against the yankees when their losing is almost as fun as cheering for the sox when they're winning.

it takes three losses in the division series to choke. and usually it takes two wins in the first two games, but i guess with that lineup hitting like girl scouts it counts.

You can't buy pitching.

Either find good value for pitching, or grow your own. You have no other choice in today's MLB.

Even as a White Sox fan, i'm glad to see the Tigers whippin that ass. Steinbrenner's head is gonna explode after this. Biggest payroll in baseball, best record in baseball and bounced in the first round by the wild card team. Classic.

everybody was on that lineup's nuts before the playoffs started, and rightfully so, i thought they'd destroy everyone too. but that rotation deserves respect and the offense got the job done and then some.

edit: spelled destroy worng

Pitching and a great catcher along with some timely hitting will get you a LONG ways.

However, wtf was going on with some guy trying to kiss Leyland?

I'll take any L's, and any lumps here (which is why I don't talk shit until the game is over, so the L isn't as bad)

The best lineup in postseason baseball just got a big dose of we don't give a fuck by the Tigers

they've been waiting for that for awhile. The team wanted to show their appreciation for those fans that were there through those bad years (esp. the 119 loss season a few years ago, 10 member still on the roster from that team).

the lack of hitting was nothing original, every yankee was doing it. he just wanted to fit in. the first basemanship is what happens when you learn how to play the position in 2 days from jason giambi. it was something special.

This just confirms what I been telling you YANKEES haters "YOU DONT BUY CHAMPIONSHIPS". They have a great collection of players but dont have a great team and time and time again they keep getting exposed.

By the way RED SOX fans need to shut the fuck up, this team only made the playoffs cause YOUR team got sweep in their own house. So let the TIGERS fans enjoy it.

What the YANKEES are missing is the kind of young hunger you saw from the TIGERS.

Fans talk about payroll and how it's unfair did it look unfair out on that field?

All that money and you gotta trust JARED WRIGHT with your season???

Congrats TIGERS fans that was a ass whipping.

L

none of us ever tried to claim our team was better. your team had the best record in the league and the best lineup to ever be assembled on paper and didn't do anything in the playoffs. Huge expectations amounting to nothing deserves the ridicule of any fan, especially where alot of people (not necessarily you) were talking alot of shit. Plus, you guys would be doing the same exact thing if the situations were reversed.

makes sure L's have been distributed accordingly

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
