You’re prisoners of the moment, and focus on the sensationalized ,and don’t put things under a microscope.
Did you look at tonight’s stats? Take a deeper look.
Westbrook had 12 rebounds, no other player on his team had more than 5 rebounds. His center had 3 rebounds and his PF had 3 rebounds. That’s the stat every night. And why it’s bad being a teammate of Russell Westbrook. As a big man, you will not be allowed to get rebounds, and it’s sad.
In today’s game, players spread out behind the arc mostly, so you really don’t have big men sitting under the basket like in the past. So when a shot goes up, mostly three pointers, Russ is the only one crashing the boards, and easily crashing the boards because the big men are not crashing in or sitting under the basket. The big men are out near the arc guarding centers and PFs who can hit 3s.
It makes for an easy defensive rebound by Russell Westbrook.
All of Westbrook’s rebounds tonight were defensive, which proves my point. All three rebounds by gafford and Lopez were offensive, which proves my point even further. It seems that’s the only way the big men can get boards is on offense, when they are following up on their teammates’ shots..
Other guards don’t crash the boards or take rebounds away from their bigs. Russ looks to crash the boards more than any other guard in history. I don’t think there has been one game where Hachimura, Lopez or Len led the team in rebounds since Russ arrived.
At one point this season out of 186 qualified players, Russell Westbrook ranked 184th in Win Shares.
While he gets all the accolades, stats and attention, his teammates fade to the back and exist as passengers when they should be participants.....which usually leads to losses. That doesn’t sound like a true PG.
