>Serious question, because that sounds insane to me. > >Why on earth would you want UNC or Duke players to succeed in >the NBA more than at the college level? > >Are there really people out there that want Harrison Barnes to >win a NBA championship more than they wanted him to win one at >UNC? > >I understand cheering for your guys in the NBA, but if there >are really people out there that value that more than how they >perform in college then I simply cannot understand that at >all. > > college accomplishments..
in modern basketball you cannot claim to be a real powerhouse in college if you continuously send guys to the NBA who ride the pine..or don't send them to the nba at all...the further away you get from a time when you were sending good players to the league..the harder it's going to be to recruit..
Ben Howland was able to get the best recruiting class in the country in the midst of a terrible season because he can point to the guys who are CURRENTLY in the NBA that he put there who are actually contributing... the guys that went their have said as much themselves...
sure guys want to win in college...it's great....
but the guy who is winning in college and putting cats in the league who are contributing...like a Calipari...is more appealing to a recruit who is winning in college and then sending guys to the D-leauge to ride the bench...
