This played like a remix of Ghost Dog to me

He succeeded in making an 'Action movie without action'. I think there is also an internal commentary about the flow and tone of commercial American film here as well- we get the buildup to when Issach is going to perform the hit- the normal expectation of the audience is that we will now see the hero utilize his skills and savvy to overcome the obstacles he faces. Jarmusch removes that and tells us to 'use our imagination'. That was a great moment for me, because it forced me to ask the question, did I lose any respect for the character because I did not see HOW he reached the office? The fact of the matter is I didn't- in fact if I DID see how he did it, I'd probably be deconstructing that looking for flaws in the plausibility of the scenario. That was a brilliant way to present the story by Jarmusch.
