For these artists, I'd imagine that the first time the love goes away has to be the worst time. A label drops you since they don't view you as profitable. You can't do shows to get your own pockets right/keep your name out there view word of mouth.
It really has to hurt if you came up at a time like the 90s with some other folks and they're still doing well while you're hurting like that.
