Before you could avoid it. The douche bar, the frat house, the dress code places all harboured that culture, and you could simply avoid those places and rarely have to interact with that mentality.
But then everything started to become digital, that crowd spread to MySpace, black planet was hiot, digital cameras became easier and more affordable, YouTube took off, and everything started to swell. But you could still be relatively inoculated. You could hang out here. IRC, Aim chats. You could still hide.
Because the Internet wasn't marketed as a cool thing. Being connected wasn't marketed as being cool. But once there was real money being put into start ups everything changed. People be me Tumblr famous & YouTube famous. Twitter got taken over from the nerds and boom.
Now everyone is at the same bar, same club, same house party. You can try to move to different rooms, but you're connected now.
