...and the waste of space dedicated to cars. Car tires (which gas, diesel & electric cars all use) account for a significant amount of the pollution that cars produce.
EVs basically shift the problem from one type of toxic pollution to another (gas to batteries).
A real solution for the US would be to start reducing the amount of commercial & personal car ownership (as well as commercial trucking) as possible, while also building useful mass transit and designing cities and tons in a way that actually makes sense, instead of endless sprawl.
With that said, I don't think the above is why EVs have fallen out of favor somewhat. I think that the limitations (charging locations & time, max driving distance per charge, cost & cost of repairs) are the biggest factors.
