Now, I've tanned so I guess I don't get the "light bright" comments as much, but I do dislike the fact that people assume I have a white parent. Which I don't. I dislike getting called a "light bright".
I don't think I benefitted from my "lightness" where some felt like they did. Though I have had white people be "okay" with their children playing with me (when I was a kid, whereas those same parents wouldn't let their kid play with the black kids that were a few shades darker than me). People made assumptions about me but I ignored it. I've only gotten into two fights in my life and both were because I was "lightskinded". LOL!!! And, yes, I've been fetishized. LOL!
But, what truly got me about the documentary was the part about being molested. Yeah, I've had it happen. I never thought about it being attributed to my light skin but it does make sense.
As it was stated before, just because our skin is a few shades lighter, doesn't mean we aren't black and we haven't dealt with stupid colorist shit!
