SP1200 all day baby! BUT to keep up with new shit you gotta go outside the 1 box mentality...I still make beats with nothing but an SP but a lot of times people see those as having a throwback sound, and although I love the throwback shit, that is not necessarily what I am trying to do... but I use an SP, ASRxPro, MPC, and Pro Tools and sometimes put it all straight to 1" 16-track tape...the point is, having a preference is okay but if you use just one thing you are cheating yourself a bit...not that you can't make dope shit inside one box(including computers), but if you want to reach your optimum musical and sonic quality of a song you should expand your signal chain a little...for instance...a lot of cats use the SP for strictly drums, chop samples in a MPC and then put it all together in PT or some other program...I am actually one of the few who still likes chopping samples in the SP...it allows me to be more creative than I feel on other machines...BUT most of the time I leave out the hi-hat on the SP and record it live from my drumkit or a cabasa or some shit...it makes a huge difference to the listener even if they can't put their finger on it... sometimes if you do all your work in a certain program or box it sounds like a novelty or a beat but not quite a song...I'm more into making songs so I mix it up a lot.
