"Poll question: MPC vs. SP1200 vs. ASR10 vs. computer..."
concider all the various products that are related to the ones listed as the ones listed (like the MPC500 and the MPC2000xl i am concidering the same thing)
these are the basic ones that cats seem to talk about so if yall have a preference, select it.
and if yall only have computer ish (fruityloops, reason, etc.) because you cant afford seeing the others (like me) i guess vote there

I use them all. (well I don't have an ASR, but I've got an EPS) Anyway, it's all in what you do with it. The LP I just finished I used everything... a mixture of gear and software to make the beats on it. I basically used the gear to form the foundation and the software for everything else. Some times I did everything with the computer, somethimes I did everything with the SP/MPC etc. Doesnt' matter if you use a cracked version of FL; cause if I could have gotten my hands on that when I first started making beats... forget about it. But, at the same time I understand why a lot of cats hate on people making ish with just a laptop. (same thing with the serato cats that don't own any records and just dl all their music)

SP1200 all day baby! BUT to keep up with new shit you gotta go outside the 1 box mentality...I still make beats with nothing but an SP but a lot of times people see those as having a throwback sound, and although I love the throwback shit, that is not necessarily what I am trying to do... but I use an SP, ASRxPro, MPC, and Pro Tools and sometimes put it all straight to 1" 16-track tape...the point is, having a preference is okay but if you use just one thing you are cheating yourself a bit...not that you can't make dope shit inside one box(including computers), but if you want to reach your optimum musical and sonic quality of a song you should expand your signal chain a little...for instance...a lot of cats use the SP for strictly drums, chop samples in a MPC and then put it all together in PT or some other program...I am actually one of the few who still likes chopping samples in the SP...it allows me to be more creative than I feel on other machines...BUT most of the time I leave out the hi-hat on the SP and record it live from my drumkit or a cabasa or some shit...it makes a huge difference to the listener even if they can't put their finger on it... sometimes if you do all your work in a certain program or box it sounds like a novelty or a beat but not quite a song...I'm more into making songs so I mix it up a lot.

...but I voted for the software. I'm not going to list anything though. It's just of my opinion that pretty much anything you can do with the old hardware boxes, can be done with software and then some. It's a hard transition, took me about 5 years, but as far as I'm concerned there's no turning back.

As far as my fovorite machine... I'd have to go with my SP, but I like the sequencer on the MPC better. If there was a meeting of the two that'd be dope. (probably how the MPC60 is, but... I dunno; 'cause I've never effed with a 60.) But, if you a baller on a budget and don't have that SP $, but want the sound, I'd say get an S950 and an MPC and midi them shits together. (that what Primo does to this DAY!!!)
