that nelly example is very helpful
everything things people can relate to
a much more simple example could be "Rick Ross- Hustlin"
you bump into a nigga and he says "Man i'm hustlin man, everyday i'm hustlin"
so you can take that n just run with it
>A friend of mine, who's an MC, he says a hook needs to be >something that's easy to relate to. He used the worst example >-- "Hot in Here" by Nelly. Someone in the summer will say >"man, it's hot in here"... and because of that song, someone >who thinks they're funny will say "SO TAKE OFF ALL YA >CLOTHES!" It's very effective, and doesn't have to be nearly >as annoying. > >But as a producer, I took a different view. Even to use the >Nelly example, it's all about space. There's a huge difference >between "can't nobody stop the juice, so tell me baby what's >the use"... and "it's getting hot in here". The flow slows >down. Way more space. Much more to the point. It's the rhythm. > > >I think that way more important than what you say is how you >say it. Because my MC friend of mine, he would do these >excessively wordy choruses... they sounded dope, but at the >end of the day, they weren't memorable at all. They sounded >more like a repeated-verse than a good chorus.
