I don't agree with everything you've said in the post (I think despite Pacino's loud-then-quiet style of acting, his line readings and the way he dives headfirst into his characters is still absolutely fantastic...except in Sim0ne), but I agree with the idea for the most part.
But I don't know who ever said Ed Norton is the best actor of his generation.
And for the record, he's the best thing in both The Score AND Death to Smoochy, so someone could use the "best part of shitty movie" excuse with him. I won't though. I really like his work, but I'd never go as far as "best actor of his generation".
And I look forward to Part 2, since people forget that Depp was in The Astronaut's Wife not too long ago.
