lurking at first. loved the novelty of a place completely & utterly dedicated to creative expression. i'd seen nothing like it before, in all my 5 years of internet surfing. it was all emcees back then...hardly any poets. & it was very competitive. the rhyming was madd simple. like 98 style rhymes, w/ very few multisyllables & such. very punchline heavy, very short verses. lots of battles. lots of tournaments. i was madd intimidated cuz these cats were good. Lunchbox was a newbie back then, came on & bumrushed the boards sum'n awful. i remember the tourney where Toejam won against him cuz Lunch was accused of having someone type up his 3rd verse for him, i think -- it was just so out of character & so different from his usual style, folks wasn't buying it. i believed him though. it was a trip cuz, like me, he posted from a computer lab. i was in high school in Africa politikin' w/ these 20 year olds in America...i was buggin' massively. i remember the first post i ever made from Tennessee, after being accepted at college & travelling over w/ my pops. i hadn't even got on campus yet -- i was in my uncle's office & hopped right on to tell e'body the news. that's how close i was w/ folks here. that's the kinda relationship we had. Lunch flipped his WIG. lost his mind, hearing that i was finally stateside. dang, those were the days...
i'ma be back for more...
