Look man, understand that not everybody on these boards is a twenty/thirtysomething music lover fully into his/her own with well-developed, air tight opinions on shit. Some of these young heads actually look up to him as a successful musician, unofficial music 'historian' and all round music lover.
Other people just share his opinions on music, and post because of it.
I honestly don't think ?uest is laughing over the computer, rubbing his hands together at how many okayacolytes he's just brainwashed into submission. While he's probably aware of his influence (how many of you bought Slum Village because of his review, fuck the @@@1/2 from The Source said?), is it brainwashing to know a lot about one subject and then share your opinion?
Or is it brainwashing when a group of people all believe something that you don't?
Man when you're sixteen you don't know jack. So why not learn from someone you respect? Hell I'd go crazy if I was a sixteen year old on these boards chatting about music with one of my favorite artists. If he says Welcome 2 Detroit is ill and some kid buys it and thinks it's ill, does that mean he's brainwashed? If you can't at least value the opinion of someone who probably knows more about music than you, who's opinion can you value?
Obviously, when you're interested enough in an artist, you're curious as to what music they dig, what music inspires them to make the music you like. So if Prince gives out props to Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell, you shouldn't be called a dick rider for being interested in Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell.
All of this nonsense about brainwashing and the even more eloquent "dick-riding" is very unnerving at times.
Please, let other people's opinions be other people's opinions.
(or maybe I'll just get another big "F U BigWorm" for taking time out to reply to another "pissed off guy speaks up" thread)
1Love, BigPerm
