2706407, Are the walls closing in on 'real' sports journalism? (Deadspin and SI)

I don't know if this has been brought up here, but SI and Deadspin have undergone massive changes after being bought out over the last few months.

Here's an article about the changes at Deadspin (It got so bad that ALL of the writers quit in solidarity to send a message.)

And here's an article about the disturbing changes underway at SI:

In an age where real journalism (even sports journalism) is seriously dismissed it's unnerving to know that people doing good work exposing problems and real issues in society (and when it hits on the sports world) are having problems getting out their message.

I'm not sure there is one publication out there which fits the mold of those two outlets. For as great as the writing is on The Athletic, I don't see interesting writing there on the intersectionality on sports and culture. And ESPN.com's credibility on cultural issues is suspect now.

Sad news.
