"Stephen A/ KD "Drama""

LOL at this shit.

Is Stephen A a precog or does he have some connection to a basetball Illuminati that knows what KD is doing even before KD does?
Or its all for ratings, right?

Earlier this week, Stephen A Smith went on ESPN's First Take and said he's been hearing rumblings that Kevin Durant could head to the Lakers in free agency.

“Regardless of how senseless it may (sound)," Smith said. "In one breath I’m hearing that if Kevin Durant doesn’t stay in Oklahoma City, L.A. is his primary objective and landing spot as opposed to South Beach or even his home of Washington, D.C.”

After Friday's practice, Durant, speaking for the first time since those rumors have bubbled across the Internet, strongly denied them. Here's the quick interaction:

There was the first of these unnamed sourced free agency reports that we're expecting to come out throughout the season. The whole Lakers thing that Stephen A Smith came out with, do you have any response to that?

Durant: "I don't talk to Stephen A Smith at all. Nobody in my family, my friends, they don't talk to Stephen A Smith. So he's lying."

What's the best way to attack those because I know you're not naive to think these won't be popping up throughout the year?

Durant: "If you ask me a question, I'll talk about them. But like I said before, I have people who I talk to about everything and I know for a fact they didn't talk to him, so he's making up stories."

Instead of falling back Stephen A doubles down:

Update 2:15 p.m: Stephen A. Smith has responded to Durant's claim that he's making up stories.

"At NO time did I ever say I SPOKE to K.D. Or his family. Or his brother, friends, teammates, etc. (although I can assure you all I have on several occasions in the past)," Smith posted on his Twitter account. "I said I HEARD from folks I know -- in a league I've been covering for 19 years -- that if he were to leave OKC as a free agent, these are the cities I was told he was considering. OKC. LA. Miami. DC. NY. I stand by it all. And that is that. His assertion that I was lying is not only FALSE, but totally uncalled for. Especially from a player who receives nothing but praise not only from me, but from practically every media member you can find."

Today he Triples Down on First Take lol

Is Stephen A going to go the Tonya Harding route and get someone to re-injure Durant's foot?

Not really, and I don't think he'll actually do that over this thing.

But eventually, someone's just going to say fuck it after getting too fed up with one of their shouting heads.

compared to worrying if on-air folks on ESPN give him favorable coverage or not. And as funny as it would be to see Durant go full curmudgeon mode similar to Rasheed Wallace with the infamous Both Teams Played Hard, My Man postgame comments, I'm sure Adam Silver wouldn't like one of his top stars to throw continue shade at ABC/ESPN, since the two are business partners.

if Durant were so petty as to going beyond dismissing the initial rumors and to actively care about wanting to hurt Stephen A. Smith financially or otherwise. He has plenty of other concerns in regards to the up coming season. Stephen A. Smith shouldn't be one of them.

Regardless of what they say, the players *read the papers*. Fuck I think the players are some of the most loyal readers. People see how he does guys who give him info, how flimsy of a source he will throw out there, how he did AI as his career was ending, etc. Stephen A is not your friend. Stephen A the persona became bigger than Stephen A the person and that doesn't go unnoticed.

Media cats blatantly make up stories, and when an athlete (or other entertainer) calls them out and says that didn't happen, the media rips the dude/chick.

Shit is incredible...if KD said he never talked about it, Stephen A. shouldn't be insistent on spreading rumors...now he's talking all greasy

He reacts to everything too strong like he doesn't know the 2nd best player in the L is gonna get more scrutiny than a regular player. Love him or hate him Stephen A cut to the chase and pulled his card when he said if I'm lying then re sign with OKC RIGHT NOW then.

Just because Durant claims he doesn't want to play for the Lakers doesn't mean he automatically needs to re-sign with the Thunder.

and there's less double-checking than there ever has been because everyone wants to break the story first.

Fact checking has gone the way of the dinosaur, in all walks of life.

But because of that, rather than being a journalist, you've now become a gossip columnist. And then Stephen A.'s got the nerve to THREATEN dude?

The terrible thing is that the media absolutely REFUSES to admit when they're wrong, but want to hold athletes/entertainers to higher standards.

Narrator: A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

Business woman on plane: Are there a lot of these kinds of accidents?

Narrator: You wouldn't believe.

Business woman on plane: Which car company do you work for?

Narrator: A major one.

Threat aside (that was some emo shit)....Stephen A is spot on with this.

By going to the media and saying that Stephen A is lying...he throws his credibility into question...that's how that man makes his living. You can't let that shit go unanswered.

Also...these new generation Twitter/Instagram niggaz get so emotional over shit because they see it everywhere....this generation has no concept of "step away and get some perspective"

The correct response to this by KD would be "Look...I'm a member of the OKC Thunder....this is my home and has been my home....I'm focused on this season and I'll let the business handle itself when the time comes...and will ONLY discuss it when that time comes....next question"

But not these Instagram niggaz.

It's crazy how different the standards are to publish something in a legitimate news outlet or just blurt it out on TV, and the place with the thinner standard gets much more attention generally.

He is trying to make a splash and put something out there and Durant checked him on it. I have zero problem with that. These guys who report bullshit and have a high profile fuck up the game for both sides IMO.

Speaking more broadly I think now the teams want to control their own information and promotion. The age of the team website and NBA.com has really put a damper on traditional news reporting. In sports, it's a much bigger issue than alternative media for sure. That's closed things off in a lot of locker rooms IMO. But the Players Tribune is just a small alternative, I don't see how anyone could complain about it as it exists.

Stephen A is not, and so this "controversy" benefits him way, way,
way more

Durant can not say a word and still be a gazillionillionillionaire.

Remember: athletes are actually really good at something,
that a lot of people can't do

There are zero sports reporters/journalsts that are so good that their absence would damage anything or anyone

Nobody cares

No journalist was more famous than Bill Simmons. Grantland
has barely missed a beat, and ESPN gives zero fucks

So basically, who cares

Would anybody miss the Cowherds and Baylesses and Screamin' As? No. Would people miss the people who are actually good at their job? Yes. Whether it's a scribe like Wiley or Hunter S Thompson or someone who does a little of everything like Heywood Hale Broun or an awesome, cultured national columnist like Eric Duhatshek or a broadcaster like Chick Hearn, those guys do make an impact and are great at what they do.

Wiley died 11 years ago.

And I'm a Ralph Wiley disciple. I've written about sports
and the whole 9 (and about a lot of other stuff).

But my opinion on sports doesn't effect the sports world
as much as....shit...Roy Hibbert's mediocrity does.

There is no situation, ever, where I should ever equate
my importance to sports to anything that a world class
athlete does.

Those are the facts.

There is no current journalist who can switch to
writing about video games and effect anything about
sports, at all.

Durant leaves basketball and it completely shifts
the dynamics of the sport. People lose millions of
dollars. Money moves, things are effected.

There is no comparison.

Of course people write well. But the impact isn't the same, which
is why I find all these "journalist vs athlete beefs" are
hilarious. There is no beef. There is one half who benefits from
the beef, and one who does not.

This came up during the Marshawn Lynch situation: he doesn't
owe anyone shit. He's great at his job.

The power dynamic is really only this way because most star
athletes in this country are black. When you are black, it
doesn't matter how good you are at what you do, white people
feel like you OWE them something.

This creates the space for Stephen A to talk to these dudes
like he's ever earned a thing. He hasn't. They've made money
FOR HIM.

Stephen A is lucky to have ever been in the same company
as the great men he's been around. I can LITERALLY pick
a good poster from OKP and render Stephen A irrelevant
tomorrow.

I can't do that for Durant.

His talent is uniquely awesome and we're luck to be alive
when he's playing. And it shows in his impact on the world.

this ain't rap music. you can't just shoot up stephen a's car or punch him in the face and expect people to shrug it off, like "oh, that's just what THEY do." nah, this different.

he done went at josh gordon, justin blackmon, javaris crittendon, etc.

KD is not really a dude that would do that and Stephen A. knows that.

KD called him a liar and SAS defended himself. this ain't have to be a big deal. but, he can't call that man a liar and expect it to be all good. nobody said they talked to you or your folks, dogg. he simply said he HEARD some shit. journalists hear a lot of shit.

this ain't no different from windhorst saying he heard bron don't like kyrie and had no desire to play with him, and kyrie wouldn't re-sign in cleveland anyway.

kyrie went on twitter and whined as well, but he ain't call nobody a liar.

bosh, wade nor bron called SAS a liar when he said he HEARD they were tryna team up.

KD seem to be under a lot of pressure since his honeymoon phase been over. he just been aggy. he not that precocious 21, 22 year-old scoring prodigy no more and people just keep invalidating HUGE seasons from him and asking "that title tho?"he gotta deal. everyone else does. he ain't been right since that headline from that OKC paper called his ass out.

You don't see a problem with threatning a player by telling them that you'll use your platform to attack him. That calls the entire network's credibility into question.

ESPN should fire him or at least suspend him.

All he had to say is "I stand by my report." That's it.

Most reporters would take being called a liar as a badge of honor. It usual means you're getting to the truth.

no one is going to just take that, that's just a bad choice of words. Those are words reserved for true enemies and people that have fucked you over FOR REAL.

that being said, SAS needs a good ass kicking, his lack of self awareness, and sense of self-importance is disturbing.

calling someone a liar, particularly in smith's profession, is serious. but i dont pretend to know the whole history here. smith is certainly acting like a total asshole in retaliation. in a way, durant did him a favor but getting his name in headlines. smith knows how the attention-whoring game is played.

Mofos going on tv with wild speculation is now news. Sawces told me blah blah blah about some shit that's 99% false. Just to have something to fill time and so other reporters can report on it.

Glad KD called him on it. Hope more players start doing it.

There's a reason why Broussard is still relevant...this current media cycle and the general penchant for tabloid level material lends itself to a bunch of nonsense being reported
