I could cop a bunch of pleas about the guys at the top of my draft, but there's no point. If you trade back for the later picks to get guys higher in the draft, you need (a) to hit on all of those later picks, and (b) you need those guys you traded back for to stay healthy. Neither thing happened.

I could also cop pleas about personal life/time dedicated to the waiver hunt, but there's no point to that either. If I'd hit on my draft picks, then I wouldn't need to dig through the scraps for gold as often. As someone said earlier, outside of maybe one guy per year, I'm pretty goddamn draft-and-trade reliant. Which has worked beautifully for me in years past. This year, not so much. Too many draft misses/injuries led to not enough enticing assets to pull off a truly beneficial trade. Guess I could've rolled the dice on a CP3 deal, but looking back at the offers, I wouldn't have done anything different. If Rubio came back a month ago like he was originally projected, might've been a different story. Might've. Should've. Could've. Etc.

I guess everybody is entitled to one bad year. This one will be mine. (And Theo's.)

Basically you employed a strategy that was outside your typical lane and it kicked you in the butt because you couldn't put in the waiver work (which you normally don't need to do). If you change up your strategy, you have to be committed to the extracurricular work. Like Basa said he's been waiver pressed this year WHILE nailing his draft. So he hasn't been hurt as much by injuries (normally his kryptonite) and his draft risk all paid off but being a good scout put it over the top.

Happens to everyone eventually. I'm starting to think my strength is in mitigating injuries and staying the course of my plans. It just hasn't pushed me all the way to a ring yet. My reg seasons are hit or miss but I work so hard when things are rocky that by the end of the year I'm at least good enough to upset 1-2 teams. Because of that, I think the 2 times I nailed the draft I won (not always to case when someone drafts really well).

I've always been draft-and-trade reliant. I just rarely miss nearly as often in the back half as I did this year, and I certainly haven't dealt with the high-pick absence lunacy on par with Rubio, Henson, and Sanders this year. I could've lived with one or the other. Not both.

Realistically, I'm never going to win the waiver battles with the current set-up. I work weekends/evenings a lot, and when I am home in evenings, I'm watching college hoops instead of NBA most of the season. So I don't find out about injuries or hot prospects until they've already been scooped.

Which is fine. I'm cool with being draft reliant, honestly. It's served me pretty damn well the last few years. I just flew too close to the sun with trading back as often as I did this year. If I'd had my guys on the floor the whole season, I absolutely think I'd have easily been in contention-- but since injuries are part of the game, and they happen to high-round picks for most every team, I have to either have more high-round picks (which I traded away) or hit on those back half picks (which I didn't, for the most part).

Last year, Miles Plumlee was my last pick. The year before, Larry Sanders. This year, I'm pretty sure it was James Ennis. One of those things is not like the other, lol.

The only redeemable part of this season, really: my belief in Draymond Green, who multiple people insisted couldn't be a stud. I just wish I could've taken Dray to the promised land once again-- he deserved to have a better team around him.

(BTW, I *suppose* if Boogs' team collapses, my season isn't *technically* over. I just see how unlikely it is that I can get to the playoffs in my current state, so I'm not holding my breath. And if my team starts somehow studding out with Rubio and I still miss the playoffs, it's just going to hurt even worse, lol.)

I exchanged a few emails with the guys from the site early in the season about developing a way to search for free agents based on the last few games' worth of FPPM. Mostly because I don't really have the time (or the drive) to dig out the diamonds in the rough. It'd help if I regularly watch pro ball, but during college season, I just don't-- unless there aren't college games on. So I thought that additional search function might be handy. They seemed compelled by the proposal.

1. Bath Salt Bron putting up 56.8 at 1.62 over his last 5.
2. Deandre putting up 51.5 at a 1.55 over his last 5.
3. Rondo's injury means Monta will go back to playing around 1.1.
4. Hayward at 47.3/1.33 over his last 5.
5. A good waiver pick up in Ajinca who admirably put up 24 at 1.84 while AD was gimpy.

I tried picking up some high minute Fs and Gs to shore up my missed minutes. Hopefully that helps me.

My season has been just as weird:

Started out 5-2, lost 15 of 16 when cuz went down. He comes back and I go 3-0 with a 325 avg then z-bo goes down and I lose 7 straight including games where I score 288, 294 and 275. Z-bo returns I win 10 of 11 putting up almost 285 a game.

I've had long L streaks that total 20 straight (7 and 13) and short burst W streaks that total 17 (4, 3, 5 and 5). And when I'm winning, my team is in the 290's on avg lmao.

Cenario: NOPE

Ernie: Russy going down again or a early shutdown. Mo Williams eventually losing his minutes to Ricky and then losing efficiency.

If I dint have him Ir'd george hill coulda been Ir'd then id have more flexibility there. A number of guys I couldnt pick up early just cause I didnt have the roster flexibility.
