"So I guess Man City and Chelsea are playing a friendly in the STL..."

at Busch Stadium, City is my squad but those tickets were too damn high, I'm watching it on tv, lol.

Those tickets sold out within hours initially, they released some more today on stubhub and standing room was starting at $100...

and then the euro squads trot out their B teams who are missing a ton of stars.

it's amazing how US soccer fans will shell out top dollar to say they've "seen" top clubs inside a giant stadium not built for soccer without all the stars and the teams playing for literally nothing, but those same fans can't be bothered to actually attend a competitive, cheaply priced, similarly engrossing MLS match which is available in plenty of areas.

and yes, this is just a bitter US soccer fan rant, but those summer tour games have always pissed me off -- over-priced, lack of real value, AND JESUS CHRIST THERE'S A (BETTER) DOMESTIC PRODUCT YOU COULD BE SUPPORTING INSTEAD.

granted players of the quality you'd see in that match are indeed a rare sight in the US, but if you just want to watch a game of soccer, it's a total fucking rip-off to do those summer games...

meanwhile, actual soccer games featuring actually motivated soccer players can be easily attended for 1/4 of the price.

oh, you won't get to see the guy that's 5th on the depth chart for the team that's only available on cable TV? real sacrifice to keep an extra $75-100 in your pocket (PER TICKET!).

the shit is stupid. Man City ain't your daddy. it's just the dude from out of town trying to fuck cuz they got their face on TV.

when i saw Madrid play DC United, they actually brought all the stars over. even CR7. well worth the money. and the experience and memory was far better than any DC United MLS game i've been to.

that's why people don't sweat the pricetag. the MLS just can't match that experience and it's not trying to. idk why you want to pit the two in direct competition. these exhibitions are good for the growth of the game in america and the MLS benefits in the long run. be happy.

funnest part? being in the first row of like a 5k stadium (all this inclusive with the USL season ticket, ~$220/yr mind you) when some dude hollered some shit at Adebayor on a corner kick about how he sucks or something. Adebayor was NOT having it, immediately turned to the source of the voice and sent the Ron Artest-esque DEATH STARE at whoever it might have been. the WHOLE section behind the goal hushed up when Adebayor did it, it was actually one of the more striking live sporting moments I've ever seen, a player silencing a whole crowd just with one stare. it was pretty crazy.

but the Man City game with Adebayor scoring a goal in a 5k capacity field still didn't hold a candle to even the lowliest of low MLS games I used to go to back in the early '00s (and I used to see world-class players like Landon Donovan, Demarcus Beasley, Eddie Johnson et. al. even back then).

good to know you get highest going to an arena show, personally I'm content feeling the real thrills on the local circuit.

So I wouldn't call them stupid...the market set the value.

ESPECIALLY considering you can likely see the domestic product for 1/4 of the price (St. Louis, I understand, but you might even be able to get a hotel in Chicago AND a ticket for the price you'd see to watch a stupid Euro exhibition).

I mean, if exhibition sports gets you that hot + bothered, do you, but personally I think these summer tours for the soccer pop stars from the old country are a rip off.

You can be bitter about it all you want and pine about the 'local circuit' but the fact is the demand for these clubs (partly which is due to the scarcity of games they play in the US) is higher so the ticket prices reflect that. I don't see how that makes the ticket prices 'stupid'...they are simply a reflection of what people want to see and hence the amount they will pay.
