Curious to hear what it is now...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/20/frank-ocean-django-unchained-soundtrack-song_n_2166697.html

Quentin Tarantino's upcoming western drama, "Django Unchained," has some major names attached to it. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, and Kerry Washington, among others, the film was just tied to two more big names: Frank Ocean and Rick Ross reportedly wrote songs for the movie's soundtrack.

"As we make our way back from Astoria, Ocean tells me that he's got at least five projects in the works, among them a song he wrote for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained; songs he's working on for Alicia Keys and Beyoncé; songs for his own third album; and a European tour, which he says he wants to model on Pink Floyd's The Wall tour," Amy Wallace writes in her profile of the artist.

Vulture went on to report that Ross penned a song as well. "I ran into Rick Ross I said, 'Rick, you should come by the set because I know Quentin doesn’t do original stuff, but it wouldn’t hurt for you to come and just feel it because Django is hip hop. This is a different thing,'" Foxx said in an interview with About. "So Rick Ross shows up, huge fan of Quentin and I said, 'Rick, if you’re going to write a song, I think you should say these words: I need 100 black coffins for 100 bad men, dig 100 black graves so I can lay they ass in. 100 black coffins.' So that would be my contribution. Now what he does with it, I don't know. But if he does what I think, it’s going be, it’ll be great."

Ocean rose to fame this year, thanks to a successful album and an openness with his personal life that made headlines. Ocean penned letters on his blog about his first love, who was a man -- a confession that made waves in the hip-hop community. He has started to achieve mainstream success, shown recently when his tracks were featured on the Nov. 12 episode of "Gossip Girl."

"Django Unchained" is due out Dec. 25.

http://pitchfork.com/news/48782-quentin-tarantino-explains-why-frank-ocean-isnt-on-the-django-unchained-soundtrack/

In an interview with GQ a couple of weeks ago, Frank Ocean mentioned that he had written a song for the new Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained. However, when the official soundtrack was announced, Ocean's track was nowhere to be found.

Tarantino has just released a statement explaining what happened. He said:

"Frank Ocean wrote a fantastic ballad that was truly lovely and poetic in every way, there just wasn't a scene for it. I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that's not why he wrote it and not his intention. So I didn't want to cheapen his effort. But, the song is fantastic, and when Frank decides to unleash it on the public, they'll realize it then."

The Django Unchained soundtrack does, however, feature new tracks from Rick Ross with the film's star, Jamie Foxx, as well as Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, and legendary composer Ennio Morricone, plus a mashup of 2Pac and James Brown. Tarantino himself collaborated with musicians on several of the tracks, as well as the film's score.

The album will be released December 18 via Loma Vista Recordings, while the movie hits theaters on Christmas Day. Hear Rick Ross' track "100 Black Coffins", produced by Foxx, above.

Django Unchained:

01 "Winged"

02 Luis Bacalov and Rocky Roberts: "Django (Main Theme)"

03 Ennio Morricone: "The Braying Mule"

04 "In That Case, Django, After You..."

05 Luis Bacalov and Edda Dell'orso: "Lo Chiamavano King (His Name Is King)"

06 Anthony Hamilton and Elayna Boynton: "Freedom"

08 Luis Bacalov: "La Corsa (2nd Version)"

09 "Sneaky Schultz and the Demise of Sharp"

I feel like itunes/ipods killed it by you seeing the exact song length. There used to almost be one on every album and now can't think of the last one that had one

there used to be so many ways of throwing in extra and unlisted music on a cd. now everything is obvious and less fun, and if there are bonus tracks, they are listed, usually follow little to no silence after the main album, and are often meant for different retailers or just to get you to shell out a few more bucks disproportional to what you spent on the album. i miss the era when artists could throw in surprises and experiments either as a hidden track or on these smaller releases that used to be called EPs or cd singles before labels and digital retailers bogarted extra songs for exclusive editions that disrupt the flow of the album or make them 80 minutes long (or longer - kendrick). the only plus is a lot of artists are very generous about free downloads of nonalbum tracks, but it's not quite the same.

It's probably a good reason why music is so disposable nowadays, not that the music is terrible just ppl don't take it in and discover it the same. It's treated like fast food instead of a homecooked meal. A lot of ppl don't even know song names anymore
