But front to back, none of that shit is very enjoyable past a week or two.
I'll admit Stay Scheming grew on me the past two weeks (yea, it took that long) but I didn't enjoy it much in the context of the tape, I was just exhausted at that point every time.
Sixteen was the best song on GFID and it wasn't GREAT, just very good, solid. The two best songs were the remixed bonus tracks from Rich Forever, the rest of the album was boring, by-the-numbers shit that just didn't hit. Ross and his producers came off like all it takes to make an engaging rap album is to sound like it's an engaging rap album. It reminded me of watching a CBS sitcom where everything LOOKS like it's a great comedy, and everyone's telling me it's great comedy, but all I can appreciate is the professionalism.
Looking back on how I felt about Rich Forever, I might like it more if I went back to it now. A lot of my scores for those songs sort of baffle me (Triple Beam Dreams got a 4.75 - 5 on God Forgives but a 3.25 - 4 on Rich Forever...) but it was the same deal, where it was just pummeling me with Ross. Teflon Don was great, and Albert Anastasia and Deeper Than Rap were really enjoyable, because ALL (well, besides bullshit like Face) of the trash and formulaic shit was dropped in favor of concise, well crafted albums. Since the MMG album the deal seems to be just throw shit at the wall and expect it to stick. Since I HATED Ross other than "Hustlin'" until AA/Deeper Than Rap, it's real easy for me to fall back into being bored by him if he doesn't bring his 110%.
