But I agree. It started off pretty suspect but I feel it gained some steam around "Keep On Dancin'." I felt a lot better about it the rest of the way. But I agree, he could have cut out some of the corny stuff (like the Uptown Girl take, for instance). Off this first listen, "I Love U" was my favorite cut.

I gotta give it a few more listens but that was my instant response.

Again, this is after just one listen. I admit that I'm not at all familiar. I've never heard of 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE. So I listened on the strength of your post.

First off, that Souls of Mischief track is absolute fire. They just don't get the props or respect they deserve.

I think I was expecting something more boom-bap and straight-forward hip-hop. But this album has some sneaky twists and turns. It's a roller coaster ride but I enjoyed it. I don't know a lot of the artists on a lot of the tracks. But it'll get some more spins from me.

i admit i didn't know much about 1999 WRITES THE FUTURE and still don't.

singles from this started poppping up on my New Music Friday playlist like a month or so ago and they were all dope so i was thinking an album was coming. i know it's on 88rising, which is an Asian focused label/artist collective, so i'm guessing he/her/they (???) is the producer and artist (on a couple tracks), and they've collected these guests over their production (and some of the artist like Rich Brian are part of 88rising)...but there's not a lot of info about it so i'm still guessing.

It's a reissue from the 90s but I'm thinking it's original release must have been tiny to non-existent. Usually these types of albums are nice for nostalgic purposes but you can see why they didn't get traction. This one sounds like a lost DJ Spinna album from the 90s, and the rhymes are good too.

I love Conductor Williams but this one doesn’t really do it for me. That said, Stove God is entertaining as hell like always and that song title is amazing. Whatever is holding him from putting out another album, I hope it’s resolved soon. It’s ridiculous at this point - it’s been 4 years and he claims he’s got 7 recorded albums in waiting.

somehow the yt algo decided i wanted to hear drumless horny sample drill after i watched realyungphil and MIKE's recent song — and the yt algo was right!

i was vaguely aware of this sample drill movement but only got about as deep as shawny binladen last year. the instrumental to chow lee's "ms beautiful v" (produced by cash cobain) is absolutely out of bounds. i had heard cash cobain instrumentals before (at least the tag was familiar) but i didn't know sample drill had merged with jersey club drum patterns to spin off in to something more interesting. can't understate how much i love some of these cash cobain beats. chow lee's "swag it" is also very good as is wolfacejoeyy's "weekend." not sure i'm a fan of chow lee in particular (can't really relate to being OD horny 24/7) but i have a deep history of ignoring lyrics in order to listen to good beats

i was really interested to see how him and Carti's albums would sound based off the leaks i've heard cause this prob gonna be the direction of popular rap for the next 18 months.

i only actually like maybe half of the album but the parts i dont "like" are still very interesting sonically

very experimental stuff. it's kind of shocking that something so "weird" sounding (a lot of these sounds are familiar to me bc i listened to a ton of UK electronic music from the mid 90s through the early 2010s) is resonating so deeply with listeners. i'm also really looking forward to carti's next project bc the 4 songs i've heard off it so far have been very good. took a second to get used to the new register he was rapping in but it works for the instrumentals

the music is fire. my only issue is i just wish the songs were more compelling, or that someone was really spitting on these beats.

i can't wait for the "vibes" era of music to end.

I really liked some of the singles he put out the last few years, and that feature he did on Reuben Vincent’s album last year, so I’ve been hoping he’d put an album out!

i typically hate French Montana but this is actually a very good mainstream rap project. i'm no French expert but this is the best project from him that i can recall. which also has to suck since it's technically a "mixtape".

good features, good production, some of his better rapping i can recall...not really a bad song on here.

Somehow while trying to listen to the new MGMT Youtube music switched me over to the album "Gloom Division" by I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME. I'd never heard of these guys at all.

It's exactly the type of 2020 pop band that wears the 1980s on it's sleeve, heart, --and tattooed on it's face.

particularly bc she preceded basically every modern woman rapper besides nicki. she had hits almost decade ago doing her own thing and now she circled back to confident ratchet rap. not a backwards move per se but kind of like an OG updating their sound to stay relevant (even though she's only like 30)
