The way he is using his platform....it is hurting more than helping.
He is all the way fucked up. Rocking a MAGA hat while sporting a 'Free (Larry) Hoover' shirt.

He started rocking the Confederate flag around 'Yeezus'. Moved on to MAGA hats and 'slavery was a choice' comments. I am guessing he's gonna start showing love and endorsing the Klan next. Ya' know, open up the dialogue.

Dude is literally still surrounded by yes men. Even after the Chicago apology tour where he spoke on how the people around him let him behave when he was “ramped up”.

It was so disturbing watching his rant on SNL and the way his “friends” stood there with their heads down as if he was dropping some type of next level knowledge...it’s gonna be a really sad day for him if he ever snaps out of this and looks back at all of this.

You stay classy okayplayer!!

kanye has trouble using words. he speaks in concepts. lol cmon.

this is a 40 yr old man with 3 kids that people are treating like some poor misunderstood teen.

seeing all these lil goofy ass negros around him just jumping and smiling while he got the maga hat on pretty much kills my faith in any intervention.

Ye keeps fucking around and is going to eventually get his O.J. wake up call. Let him keep saying dumb shit for alt right bigots to rally behind and a pat on the head from the dominant White culture; we're gonna see in years to come. No matter how much tap dancing he does now, he's gonna fall by the very hand of the people he's trying to impress.

What is really sad are those artists still standing by Ye and working with him, but ignoring his fucked upped-ness, because Ye still brings those hot beats/executive production that will advance their careers. They gotta sit there and act like he is the truth when really they need to get as far away as possible. I don't care if you are the legendary Nas, a Chance, or anybody. The more off the rail he goes and you're standing with him cheesin', I have no choice but to give you the side eye as well.

over simplifying how the worlds problems can be solved and dismissing serious issues.

supposedly he clarified that he meant he wants to abolish slavery in prisons.

this is just a mess.

Kanye suffers from the "I am great at one thing, so I must be great at these other things".

But he is trying to steps into areas now that are just plain impossible if you can't crack a book open and study the issues.

kanye thinks getting rid of the slavery exception is a magic pill to driving down incarceration. but that exception clause isnt really the impetus for over-incarceration tho. it provides partial incentive (cheap labor exemptions). just as felon voting disenfranchisement provides another incentive. but for-profit prisons only make up about 10% of the facilities in the country.

the overwhelming crux of our over-incarceration epidemic comes from over-policing (black neighborhoods), over-sentencing (mandatory minimums), under-funding (education and prevention/reintegration initiatives), etc. then just tack on basic racism and making white real estate owners feel safe.

if you tackle those issues then you can drive down incarceration levels. you dont need to abolish an amendment (or amend an amendment...as kanye tried to clarify lol) to do that.

the incarceration rate in louisiana has been nosediving with direct criminal justice reform measures (especially in 2017).
https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/articles/2018/07/10/louisiana-no-longer-leads-nation-in-imprisonment-rate

this is one area where oddly there is bipartisan support. the left wants to address equality/justice for minorities. the right wants to address the exorbitant costs and drain on state coffers.

I dug a bit after news of this first hit and I came to the same conclusion you did, I just did not want to point this out because its a bit of a hot topic and its easier to be mad at Kanye.

That said, in no way does this excuse Kanye.

I'm pretty fucked heated over his inability to want to try to learn some history

but, now I am starting to understand why he likes Trump - they both want to lead but have a shit sense of history and decency and are very very VERY incapable of presenting well thought out arguments.

UGH.

He had an opportunity to make a strong point with that statement but he completely fucked it up.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/29/kanye-west-confederate-flag-shirt-explained-_n_4173200.html

I think he's wearing these MAGA hats in the same vein... trying to use his fame to appropriate a racist image and re-define it... like trying to reclaim the swastika from Nazis.

It still ain't working because he's been horrible about really articulating his vision and its really arrogant to think HE can single-handedly redefine these items.

Oh, I totally agree, when I saw the symbolism he was playing with I saw the big idea. It's like he likes to play with signs and symbols but he attempts to appropriate the artifacts on face level, maybe even a secondary level but he is unsuccesfully trying to pin new history on old signs and symbols while not at all attempting to subvert the historical aspect of the things themselves.

Kinda like, "nigger" to "nigga" but "nigga" has history³.

I can maybe speculate on his vision and intended end result in this particular area but...

>It still ain't working because he's been horrible about really
>articulating his vision and its really arrogant to think HE
>can single-handedly redefine these items.
>

THIS. Hes good at producing artifacts that work best when intuition are to be used to draw meaning (i.e. rap lyrics) or when deeper meaning is to be found using snippets of statements.

He is absolutely horrible at making concise long form arguments. Add in one part drug abuse, one part narcissism, two parts unchecked mental health issues, three parts ignorance, four parts hubris and Bobs your uncle.

Hes trying to make culture change from the top but I'm suspecting that culture actually changes at the bottom (i.e. early hip hop, the creation of, the growth of, etc)

>He probably intends to blow people minds but he's really just
>blowing his fans.

Dude needs to just take on the Quincy Jones route. Shut the fuck and push artists from behind the boards.

he's doing a horrible job of communicating the product. you can't support trump and wear a maga hat and then say you're reframing it into some anti-racist agenda. The GOP's politics have actual results on human lives. They have escalated the culture war and given comfort to Neoconfederates and Neo Nazis. They have kidnapped 12,000 kids, mostly south american, and disappeared 2000 of those kids, saying that they've "lost track" of them. They are currently being led by a traitor and are taking more and more money from Russian oligarchs in an effort to undermine the stability of our country. I hope Kanye is getting paid well for his post apocalyptic clothing.

of what kanye claims he wants to do. theyve been instituting policies that lead to more people being locked up for longer stretches of time.

kanye really is a stereotypical trump supporter. dude prolly just sees a meme or fox news clip and runs with it. no desire to dive deeper and get a firmer grasp on the actual issue.

I love his 1st 3 albums, tuned out after the Yeezus trainwreck
but I never put him up there in the great MC pantheon
(Nas, Rakim, KRS, Thought, Pharoahe, Kane, Jay, Pun, Prodigy, Biggie, G Rap)
it's all subjective but I gotta ask

just hoping this dude's album was even going to come out. Was the Roc even going to try and promote the dude in the Polo shirt with the endearingly corny one-liners and distinct lack of coke talk? Wouldn't it be easier to just having him put out an album of beats and have the State Property guys rap on them?

I genuinely never saw "becomes a crazier real life version of Dewey Cox if also Dewey was a Nazi sympathizer" coming from all the possible paths his career could have taken.

Like, clearly someone else wrote all those conscious pro black lyrics cause this fool couldn’t have.

Beyond that, I’m side eyeing EVERYONE who is able to completely ignore Kanye’s support of white supremacy because the beats are hot. Like, I can’t trust anyone like that. It’s everything wrong with black American culture that we accept any and all evil if the music is hard...

I hate everything Kanye is a represents at this point. I literally want to fight him. This nigga could die today and I would feel better; that’s how much I hate white supremacy and anyone who supports it.

It’s much much much more than “he can’t express

He is doing a lot of harm and zero good.

The more you think about it, he and Cheeto are

Nah. Both arrogant, over-rated, willfully ignorant,
detached, jack asses.

What is really astonishing is how stupid he is.

MAGA & the hat has been directly linked to white supremacy

which has either assaulted, killed and or made black & poc feel unsafe, unwelcome and hunted these past 3-5 years.

has directly led to policies that has imprisoned children & babies, denied healthcare to thousands

etc. etc. etc.

seeing this as something that is "unfortunate" is as dangerous as him wielding the same celebrity that got Drumpf elected.

without even acknowledging the possible globally nefarious link to foreign powers & dark money

internationally...whole peoples are being slaughtered and or denied safety to wash up in oceans and coasts bcs of nationalism

yet he's saying his mission is love.

he's clearly delusional

and as someone who's seen schizophrenia first hand in someone I love. I don't know if it's that. But the feel of unwell, he reeks of it.

His mother's death was definitely one catalyst

I think he wants to be/is going to be John Lennon. His illness just doesn't know which era...

his point is that Kanye is trying to rebel from the hollywood celebrity machine. He wants to do press and talk shows and just talk like a regular person, not hit all the marks and say all the things you are suppose to say when you do a press junket.

The problem is Kanye is deeply arrogant and not very educated or articulate and he is deeply neieve that

So Kanye, the college dropout, is trying to have heartfelt dorm room conversations that 20 year olds are having right now across the country, in the public as a 40 years old celebrity.

That shit don't work.

annnd he also suffers from mental illness. So there's that.

Chris Rock talks about in some documentary being in fort greene hanging out with Nelson George and for the first time being around really smart and educated black people and it introduced him to a lot of stuff. I feel like Jay got that at some point in the last decade. I want that for Kanye. Hope he finds it in Africa.

There eventually had to be some repercussions for that dude being so anti-education in his first few Albums, now we are seeing it.

to bring stop and frisk to Chicago.

Once again focusing on Chicago crime, President Donald Trump on Monday said the city should implement a “stop and frisk” policy and get out of what he called a “terrible” agreement between the ACLU and the police department made after a study showed the vast majority of the stops targeted minorities.

I assume it goes with Trump making comments that he will bring jobs to Chicago but not until stop and frisk is enacted to curb violence and jobs will be provided for non-violent ex convicts. Which will placate his base but not bring about any real results and he will blame democrats in Chicago for not doing anything.

I think it's all petty. VERY petty.

"Even current President Barack Obama had an opinion on the matter, calling the rapper a “jackass” during a CNBC interview. Audio of Obama’s comment, which came after the president was asked of his opinion of West’s mean-girl antics, was released by TMZ just a few days after the VMA scandal. “I thought that was really inappropriate,” Obama said. “He’s a jackass.”

Despite the burn, West went on to support Obama and even urged folks to vote for Obama in his second presidential campaign in 2014. However, on Wednesday, in the midst of his tweets of support for Trump, West—who didn’t vote in the 2016 presidential election—denounced Obama, writing, “Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed.”

In response to Reply # 0

Yeah uh, and I'll never let my son have an ego
He'll be nice to everyone, wherever we go
I mean, I might even make 'em be Republican
So everybody know he love white people
And I'll never let 'em leave his college girlfriend
And get caught up with the groupies in the whirlwind
And I'll never let 'em ever hit the telethon
I mean even if people dyin' and the world ends
See, I just want 'I'm to have an easy life, not like Yeezy life
Just want 'I'm to be someone people like
Don't want 'I'm to be hated, all the time judged
Don't be like your daddy that would never budge
And I'll never let 'I'm ever hit a strip club
I learned the hard way, that ain't the place to get love
And I'll never let his mom move to L.A.
Knowin' she couldn't take the pressure, now we all pray

after LDR called out kanye for trumping
which led to banks calling out ldr for whitewoman-ing
which led to ldr calling out banks for ruining her own career
which led to banks calling out ldr for... not being in shape(?)
which led to ldr asking if banks wanted the smoke
