What a bummer. She's one of the big 80's symbols to me and while I wasn't into that type of music, it hurts just as bad; it's like a part of your childhood/early teens being ripped away because her songs were everywhere then and there's so many memories connected to them. R.I.P.!!!

I don't know anything about that but I do know that the public perception of her was this extremely clean-cut and ''pure'' star who was even a bit moralistic (I remember her statements about Madonna) and then met this bad-boy and went crazy under his influence. I remember the interview with Rolling Stone when she was swearing and using the ''N''-word and even then, people started to blame him for ruining her and this was before the drugs became common knowledge.

He will probably forever be blamed for ruining and maybe even killing her, I don't think there's much to do about that; even if it's wrong, people don't want to know-they have their scapegoat...

KDAY is the shit, I go to them for classic hip-hop & KCRW for more eclectic fare but both crush any other station anywhere else I've lived (Philly, DC, Bmore, Boston).

I choose to believe their account of the situation on the apology, that doesn't sound like something they'd do.

kind of puts in perspective how young she really was...

After they finished, he told me, "Clive Davis just signed her and he's gonna make her huge!"...and that's exactly what happened. I would always think about that 19 year old on that small stage at Sweetwater's when, over the years, I would hear her glorious voice on the radio. She was a true gift - she carried the lineage of her mom, her cousin Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin who her mom sang backup for.

My favorite song of hers was "I Will Always Love You" which Dolly Parton wrote. Can you imagine Dolly's face when she heard her song performed like that? She was probably grinning from ear to ear..

Life has it's highs and lows. I truly hope Whitney's soaring voice is what will remain in our memories...
