I'm really looking forward to playing Fire Pro finally (stabbing cats it the neck with forks? Exploding Barbed Wired Match? 300+ roster? Oh snap), but it seems like Yukes are finally stepping their game up with the next Smackdown. Which are you hyped for?

Is it an overseas game that I need to have modded unit to play or is it available at GameStop?

I've heard good things about it, but didn't know where to start. SDvsR has been wack in recent years, so I need a replacement.

There are at least 10 other ones, but they're all Japan-only.

There were actually 2 Fire Pro games that came out for Game Boy Advance. Those are the only ones I know of that came out in the US. I copped the 1st one, but I was never able to get the controls right. It's the exact opposite of a button masher and you have to "eternal sunshine" erase everything in your mind what you've done in wrestling games for your whole life. I always pop it into my DS every now and then in the hopes that I can get into it, but I just can't get the controls down. The amount of characters and the wrestler editing function is RIDICULOUS and that was for a GBA game. Can't imagine what it would be like on PS2.

Get the firepro ya'll. I have the last Japan one, and its righteous. Soooo many options. Its like Tecmo World Wrestling after 10 years with a personal trainer, a chef, and maybe half of cup of performance-enhancing jumpoffs.

as in, it diverged from what made it truly great once it became the only game in town...
The weight class shit was better implemented in Day of Reckoning and No Mercy.
They stay taking away the moves and the freedom of CAW
and now, with the whole Benoit shit they may just erase any reference to him, his moves, or whatever...which The Doc can understand taking away his likeness but don't take away the dude's moves. They can be assigned to MVP or something

they're trying to emulate the real WWE a little too much and if you haven't noticed lately... it's been ass

but not Vida ass, more like super sloppy Britney before the VMAs on the beach ass... unacceptable

with the submission system and how gimmick matches worked, all they needed was the No Mercy-style Guest Ref implementation

and the Day of Reckoning engine was even better than that...

but where Yuke's messed up with SD was trying to sim WWE...the weight class thing seemed like something Vince would have dreamed up and the inequality of it all as far as moves were concerned... plus they killed a lot of the great out-of-WWE moves... at least DOR still had those

Day of Reckoning with the detail of SmackDown's CAW should have been the cross-platform standard. For every step forward, SmackDown took 80 steps backwards

i need to buy a wrestling game, man. just cant make a decision.

it's either Here Comes the Pain or something for Gamecube. i recall the wrestlemania games being wack except for the fact you could break up peoples special moves, that was realistically cool. but i want something to play without the whole...wrestling simulation thing. i want a beat em up.

actually, DOR1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any SmackDown game

but DOR2... could very well be the G.O.A.T.

countering special moves has been the norm in wrestling games since SmackDown 4, but they've really finessed it now. When you counter a Pedigree, the wrestlers actually look like they're being brought into it and backbody drop HHH (or whichever wrestler uses it).

VPW2 is made by AKI... it's more or less an updated WM2000/No Mercy.

YES. VPW2, not No Mercy, is AKI's shining moment for wrestling games. The default wrestlers were badass (Misawa, Vader, Kobashi, Kawada, Hansen, etc) and creating cats was a blast.

Fire Pro Returns is only going to be about $15...

Editing on the game is the best in any pro wrestling game out there. 300 wrestlers plus you can make almost 400 more...

It has MMA fighters and a MMA mode (also has a K-1 fighting mode)plus the hardcore matches are pretty insane

And it has the best AI on a wrestling game...

I'll be copping it the day it comes out.

And I've played the other Fire Pro's and this is one of the best to ever come out

from being the GOAT wrestling series.

I think the main problem with smackdown and all other wrestling games is that they don't understand the fundamental psychology of the sport.

I can have an awesome 15+ minute match, which will then be ended with a hammerlock or maybe a regular body slam. You would NEVER see this in a real wrestling match. These games should be more of a simulation of "real" pro wrestling

Also regardless of what type of match you choose, the computer still plays pretty much the same. The computer should change his strategy depending on what type of gimmick match is.

The other thing is that moves should be more context sensitive. They made a nice start with the hotspot moves, but there should be more counters, and special moves available based on where you are in the ring.

Yeah, SmackDown matches USED to be over in like 2 minutes... especially if you "Dan Hibiki"-ed your way into a finisher, so they've improved immensely in taht respect.

Yeah, and this is where DOR "won" to The Doc... because they pulled from the AKI book of certain situational/weapon moves.

I've only done normal matches, I'm still trying to get all the control straight. Sumo (Rikishi) and Victory Mushashi beat me about 20 times each before I won (with Sti---er, The Spike's Sharpshooter).

I'll be good once I get a handle on utilizing back grapples, special grapples, and corner moves.

This thing is mad time consuming and addictive. Hardly any of my matches have gone on less than 10 minutes.

I got FPR last wednesday and it's a great game. I played SFPWXP on SNES almost 6 years ago so I always already use to all the controls

My only issues are that there's no season mode. Also the menu music is some of the worse I've heard in a game but considering it's a translation I can live with it.

But the edit mode is some of the best I've seen in a game since No Mercy.

I usually play on 5 or 6 and it gives me good run depending on who I'm up against. And the MMA and K-1 modes are nice as well.

Family Video is selling it on their site for $12.99... but it can be even cheaper than that.

There are always coupons for them, it used to be $5 off for first time orders... but they might have lowered it to $2 or $3.

Shipping is only .99 and it will be here by Monday for me. It was backordered when I ordered 2 weeks ago, but now it is listed as in In Stock. I only paid 8.98 at the time.

NEWMEM3F should work for $3 off

You can also try NEWMEM5F for $5 (it might be expired)

Go Wings.
