Wanting to achieve things, politically, is exactly as good as those outcomes are. You're right that it is almost always used pejoratively (is there really only one "r" in that word? that doesn't look right at all) but the announcement of "I would like to accomplish something transformative through politics" isn't something to avoid saying - and though the "something" in this case is fairly described as the right to live the same banal existence as straight folks, affirming that this requires organized action means acknowledging that there are enemies to this.
In short: good agendas are good. Telling people that you intend to make the world better is good.
