"I think I hate when black artist "discover" Rock late. "

15 mentions Common discovering Hendrix's in the SOulquarian sessions. Andre3000 seemed to at some point discovered him at some point after their first album.

In this BOB interview he talks about getting into rock.

That was a few years ago, how did that turn out?

Who else does this apply to?

Anyway, what invariably happens is an artist at the top of their hip-hop or R&B game figures they are bored in those genres and are great enough to crossover into other genres and think that they will be just as successful, but then we all discover that a person who happens to hear a couple of Jimi Hendrix albums can't produce a rock album that contributes to the huge body of work of rock already in existence or compete with rock artist who have been working in rock their whole careers.

It's like Lauryn Hill picking up a guitar and thinking anyone wants to hear the guitar work of someone who's been playing guitar for a year or two versus people who've been playing all their lives.

That's all.
