read this last week, great read
while reading this it occurred to me that one of her biggest fuck ups was erasing her own personal history - hip hop/rap is big on authenticity and keeping it real
had she led with being from Australia while also giving props Biggie, Pac and all the other people who influenced her while also understanding that she will always be an outsider I think things could have been different. Rap has been global for a good second now and when I think of the different things she could have modeled herself after I think trying to be some form of hardcore southern styled rapper was a misstep.
There is no shame in being a white person who is a rapper, things get tricky when you try to be down without cred.
I kept thinking about Die Antwoord and even UK Grime and how they have managed to make an impact by keeping it real to who they are and where they come from. They don't want to be American rappers, they want to be who they are.
Hell, even Drake represents Canada and will do so till the very end.
Iggy? She is a woman without a country and it shows.
