Testing the whole “if a tree falls in a forest” theory here. I know the OKP message boards are on life support these days, but dayum, 15 years ago this would’ve crashed these boards. Where’s Bomb at and the rest of the Philly crew??!
Even though I’m over the whole LeBron decision nonsense, I’ll gladly cheer him on in Philly. And Philly bias aside too, I thought Philly was the best fit for him (purely from a basketball fit). He will be warmly welcomed and treated as an absolute legend if he can follow through and help deliver a championship to Philly. It’s a very big ask given Philly’s lackluster postseason performance over the past 40 years, but he will have a highly talented team around him. He fills a huge need for Philly and, assuming health, can be a major contributor w/o being asked to do too much.
*Awaiting the inevitable “DREAM TEAM” hyperbole media firestorm and inevitable crash out. Lol.

I have heard there’s a ton of mutual respect/admiration btw Maxey and LeBron. I think he’ll mesh well with the team. With that said, there’s a lot of egos to please btw Bron, Maxey, Brown, Embiid, and emerging star in Edgecomb. Hope they’re able to put it together. Even with a 41 yo Bron and a broken down Embiid, this is now the most deeply talented team in the East…on paper. We’ll see if they can actually meet expectations.

2. stunting Edgecomb's development. that was already a concern to me with Brown coming. now adding Lebron it's gonna worry me more because he's gonna literally be the 5th option whereas he woulda been 3rd w/out them guys.
but, Lebron could do the funniest (and maybe best) thing for the team and be like a high level 3 and D/facilitator guy who just gets the rest of them cooking.
as you said, who knows how it will all play out, but it'll be an interesting watch for sure.

It would be assuming A LOT to think this somehow makes them a lock coming out of the East. LeBron is 41. Saying "Well, if Embiid is healthy..." is like saying "Well, if AD is healthy..." at this point in his career. It's a lot of years, miles, and egos on that squad. And this could easily go pear-shaped.
Philly will be on TV a lot. They'll play opening night and Christmas Day against the Knicks or the Celtics (probably the Knicks on opening night and the Celtics on Christmas). And maybe they'll make it past the second round. They'll eat up a lot of talking head oxygen. But I don't see this a shifting the landscape.

Yes, the Knicks are still there of course.
But beyond that? Who are the Sixers worried about? The Cavs or the Pistons who didn't improve their teams?
Boston obviously traded JB, but they still have Tatum and a lot of good, cost-controlled contracts. I still don't see them amongst the top 3 of the East.
Being able to load manage Embiid and LeBron is possible.
It's definitely the best basketball move (Minny being in the West meant they're a no go, I'd imagine). The top 2 in the West are both juggernauts, and Minny/Denver are still there - but I actually think staying on the Lakers would have made a lot of sense, but having a shot at winning with a fourth team is pretty great.

If he went to Minny or even Denver it probably wouldn't have improved either team enough to push them past thew Spurs or OKC. In the east there are indeed fewer teams to worry about, so they will likely be able to rest Bron and Embiid for periods and not worry about falling into the play-in rounds. But this doesn't seem like seismic shift for anything beyond media coverage.

Dreams do come true! Been a Bron "stan" since the sport illustrated cover. Never thought he would ever play for my city. Hope we can win it all this year. Our team is stacked, but thats a lot of egos to manage. If nothing else it should be entertaining!
