"NBA draft… Harper"

If the Spurs go with Harper, it seems redundant. With Fox, Castle and Vassell, how do you get the most out of all of them? Will somebody get traded eventually?
Is Harper a great fit or he’s just too good to pass up?

so maybe let them figure out who's better in two years

but I think it's more about the fact this class is fairly weak and Harper is the best of the rest

at worst, it's better trade material.

i think if there was more "can't miss" prospects like Flagg in this draft, Spurs probably trade the pick for a big name unless those other can't miss guys really fit them.

that wasn't the case so might as well take Harper, and as you said, let him and Castle duke it out (or maybe they become a crazy dope duo...never know).

still Wemby's team for the next half decade at minimum.

As Will said, it’s a class fairly weak in star potential, and he’s very clearly the second best prospect imo.

Edgecombe is explosive and gets to the rack easily, but then you wonder why he misses so many finishes

not big on Ace Bailey (him measuring 3 inches shorter than listed was just another log on the hate bonfire) and he's a long way from anything resembling Durant (which was his comp coming into college)

Fears isn't a good enough shooter or passer in games I watched, plus he was a sieve on defense and lacks elite size

You trade an unprotected first (?!?!?!??!) to move up ten spots for Derik Queen (again, ?!?!?!?!), and you take in Jeremiah Fears an undersized on-ball guard who can't shoot.

I think there are a lot of enticing projects in this draft that have clear upside but also very low floors-- but I wouldn't have made either of those picks if I were them. And trading an unprotected first is stone cold bonkers.

First four picks were no-brainers imo.

Love the swing with Demin-- he probably should've gone lower, but his upside is insanely high, arguably highest left in the draft at that point given the importance of PG play, so I have to respect the gamble.

Why does Toronto love wing-size players who can't shoot so much?

The Suns drafting Maluach and immediately trading for Mark Williams... is interesting. I feel like the Suns probably could've used a guy in this trade who can play right away, and Maluach is more of a project. Maybe they're just so enamored with the upside that they weren't gonna let him fall.

Coward's meteoric rise is bananas. Came into the season as a second round pick. Played single digit games, only one of which was against a high major team (and he wasn't good in it). Misses the rest of the season. Is still projected as a high second round pick. Signs with Duke in the portal. Immediately starts getting low first round buzz. Then top 25 pick buzz. Then top 20. Then low lotto. Ends up at 11. I think he's clearly an interesting role player prospect, but I can't recall having seen anything like that before. Give his agent a raise.

Derik Queen getting drafted to Zion's team for an unprotected first should honestly inspire collusion accusations. It's outrageous. It's not even an anti-Queen take (though I'm not that high on him)-- it's fit and it's cost.

Bryant's a great pick for San Antonio. Perfect fit.

Sorber's an old school style big, but he's got skill, and if anyone can really make him pop, it's probably OKC.

Yang pick was wild.

The Heat somehow getting KJ is insane. I think he's probably a top 10 talent in this draft class, maybe top 8. So... yeah. What a steal.

I don't like Orlando taking Jase Richardson there. Not a fan of very small shooting guards.

With Saraf and Wolf, Brooklyn has taken three guys who can really pass the ball. Pretty clear vision for what they want here. I like what they've done this draft.

Boston drafting a guy who isn't a shooter is interesting to me... but Jaylen Brown became a shooter in Boston. Maybe this guy can too.

Charlotte taking Kon *and* McNeeley is too funny.

at 25, and without Cole Anthony, i dont really see a downside

He’s obviously got strong feel for the game, and he can obviously shoot, but I just don’t see him as an immediate contributor. When you’re a small SG, you just need to be so good at everything to make up for the height deficiency— and I think that’ll take time if it ever happens. So much of what he did well was downhill with his left hand. I’m skeptical he can score that way consistently against NBA height/scouting given his size and lack of right hand.

Given that the Bane move was a clear indicator of “we wanna try to push for top 4 seeds immediately,” there were other guys I’d have liked a lot more there.

I’d much rather have had McNeeley, for one.

It’s just hard for me to see Richardson’s upside unless he diversifies his skill set and can play some point. I get that I’m lower on him than most, but his height for a guy who isn’t a PG is a big deal breaker for me.

They dealt away a pick ten picks later and an almost-certainly-top-ten pick next draft for Queen. Unless Queen is a high level NBA starter right away, that’s not worth it. And given his poor fit with the franchise’s best player, that’s a move that’s beyond bizarre, regardless of Queen as a player.

Guys who shoot that well on that volume? At 6'4 barefoot with 6'9 wingspan? Very much worth the pick.
