LOS ANGELES -- The day that the Dodgers have been waiting for since they signed Shohei Ohtani to a then-record contract is nearly here: Ohtani's first start as a pitcher in a Dodgers uniform is set for Monday night against the Padres. The game will be broadcast free on MLB.TV at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
"The live, simulated or whatever sort of ran its course," manager Dave Roberts said after Sunday's 5-4 win over the Giants. "He's ready to make his debut on the mound."

He's always been such an interesting pitcher to me.
He has some really good stuff with good movement, but can sometimes struggle to get the out or K. With his velocity and movement, you'd think he'd be more lights out and an ACE type pitcher, but Ive always seen him as a really good #2.
I feel like he sometimes gets too cute with his arsenal - and like last night, he can get to two outs and not get the punchout and doesnt produce a lot of grounbd balls. His fastball is also sometimes strangely hittable despite its velocity and movement. I think maybe his arm angle/release is easier to read? Easy comparison for me was watching Cease last night when he was on, his fastball at 98-99 from my TV vantage point just seemed a lot scarier and harder to pickup
Now last night There were some really nice sinkers that were playing with the bottom half of the zone (that just missed) at like 96mph. He benefitted from a fe calls with right handed pitchers, but didnt get the same calls with lefties. The splitter used to be his go to K pitch, but now he doesn't use it as much
