A topic like this surely would’ve sparked a lively discussion here 10-20 years ago. I have no strong opinion on the incident, but Elway has always come across to me as a self-centered dick who was overly protected by the media. For those completely clueless to what I’m referring to, he was involved in a golf cart accident which led to the death of his long time agent/business partner, and friend. Apparently his friend and Johnny Bananas were riding on the back of the cart (dumb) and it was a complete accident. Sad situation all-around.

If you hit some sort of bump and aren't holding on, so you fall and hit your head/neck just right? That's that. Sounds like from the ESPN article the guy hit his head on the asphalt, so yeah, I mean, that'd certainly do it.
Absolutely sucks, you never expect it to happen-- but it def does. There are hundreds of golf cart deaths a year, and thousands (probably tens of thousands) of injuries a year. Feels like I'd see several stories a year about it in Florida growing up. I'd imagine the lion's share are from people just being reckless.

You have folks often driving those while drinking, on and across uneven ground with all kinds of hills and slopes, and being reckless in many cases with passengers not using seatbelts or even appropriate seats, drivers not being mindful of the pedestrians out golfing, etc.

**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

and told in a serious tone “You know the LAPD brought in John Elway for some serious questioning due to his affiliation with the OJ case…yeah, they were looking for a slow, white Bronco that fled the scene.” We thought that was hilarious at the time (fall ‘94 when were in the 10-12 range).
