"College Football Saturday"
Sat Oct-19-24 09:46 AM by guru0509

Oregon smacked Purdue around yesterday, with ease...

the big one...Georgia @ Texas

UT fans foaming at the mouth for this matchup, desperate to prove themselves in their new conference...UGA trying to shake off that Bama loss and still maintain their hold in the top 5...cannot wait for this one

Alabama @ Tennessee

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7YmovZ09kM

Bad blood. Rivalry. Tennessee finally got some swagger back, and ready to shake things up. Heupel wins this, and they might give him an extension on the spot

Michigan @ UIUC

Looks like the Orji is over, Jack Tuttle on the road to keep Michigan in the top 25, IDK shit about Illinois, havent watched them at all. So not even gonna pretend

Da U @ Louisville

Nebraska @ Indiana

LSU @ Arkansas...upset special here?

ND @ GT

UVA @ Clemson (dont look now but Dabo got them back in the top 10 ...)

-------------------
I wanna go to where the martyrs went
the brown figures on the walls of my apart-a-ment...

upset watch is officially cancelled

Illinois has been as good as the OL has allowed Altmeyer to be. Against PSU, that was jot so hot. Everyone else tho, hes been great. Michigan's pass rush should push him into the former category but hes got 2 very good receivers, so it will have to get home.

these linebackers have no idea whats going on around them

i repeat for the 100th time, when is Cal or NCSU or Arizona St or Maryland gonna get smart and hire Jeff Monken? at 57 he's got one good run left in him. this is why Paul Johnson hates you, whoever you are.

talking about ECU's struggles

sad to see some of these G5 schools get picked on the next episode of conference realignment while ECU -- who has more history and fan support than a lot of them -- is left out in the cold because they are in an already saturated NC market

It seemed DeBoer and Jalen broke The Matrix during the first half of UA/UGA. That version of this team looked unstoppable.

But UA and their staff never figured out any counters to UGA in the second half and ever since. It seems like they've just devolved into spotting the ball and let Milroe play hero ball for 80 plays a game. And while Milroe is improved some from 2023, he just isn't good enough to bail them out every drive.

I didn't follow DeBoer until last year really, but all the talk about him was he had a highly creative, innovative philosophy on offense. It seemed like he'd take Milroe and others and turn up the performance from UA's 2023 season when they started to really get on a roll by the end. (The Rose Bowl excepted).

But this version of this team is gonna be lucky to win 9 games. I thought Alabama would take a step back this year, but I figured it would be because they'd lose a few 42-37 games, not games when they score in the teens.

Baffling.

(only because I don't think Mizzou has it in them, not on the road). at LSU is going to be dicey. 9-3, perfectly normal season. just not a Saban season, which is now in the past.

if anything, DeBoer needs to go back to designing more runs for Milroe. whether by coach design or Milroe himself trying to prove something, but Milroe is trying to be a pocket, rhythm passer like DeBoer's previous quarterbacks. he's not that good at it.

yeah, that's a decent season at 9-3. I expected a regression. my issue is this team seems poorly coached. I'm surprised by that.

milroe def isn't penix, but he's good enough to have won those games. I agree he should be running more, especially when he's not having a good passing game. he was off all game against yall. I think that still points to coaching. when he was throwing bad passes, coach should've had him or RBs get more ground game going.

but Michigan's offense was horrendously mismanaged in the offseason

not building a modern option scheme for Orji was a major mistake. even if it isnt what you want to do over time, you would still have it. and if you have it you can recruit whoever you want at QB because you have stuff for dual threat guys. almost feels like a "god for id it works or we'll be 'stuck' doing it again next year". thats incredibly unfair to your seniors.

thinking unproven FR or position switches would grow into functional offensive linemen in real time was another major mistake. galaxy brain thinking to elevate a RS FR and position switch OL above last year's backups, and now switching back means theyre 50 practices behind where they should be

not planning on 5 targets a game in the short to midrange for Donovan Edwards was yet another, and 7+20 together needed to be the base package.

this reminds me of joe lombardi coming to the lions and using sean mcvay's plays from new orleans without doing anything new. then when matt stafford and calvin johnson arent drew brees and his possession merchants he was lost.

the defense has its own travails but within the standard deviation of a new coordinator, Rod Moore out in spring, new LBs, Will Johnson in and out etc. less than i hoped for but not a systemic catastrophe. growing pains with new faces in new places, and without the

the offense tho...jesus christ. there were major foundational miscalculations.

But, this is a very underwhelming performance. They haven't looked sharp at all.

I'm not a big "SEC football is different" guy. But this version of UT is relatively new to games of this magnitude. I don't think they could game plan with the ferocity Georgia would attack them.

Yes, the score is concerning, and we may drop a spot or two in the polls.

But, honestly, I think the win showed the mettle of the team. Cook went out in the 1st half and not surprisingly, the offense did absolutely nothing.

Brady Cook came back for the fourth and led them to 15 points and the win. The team played with focus and grit and executed well enough to win. All three qualities were sorely missing for since early this year.

Given how they got blown out of Kyle Field and how poorly they played for the first 45 minutes, it shouldn't be lost on fans and the team that they fought off injury and the odds to come back.

Now, is this a nice moment or the beginning of a trend? I don't know. They have Alabama (at Birmingham), which will be hungry to disprove doubters next week. Hopefully, Cook is healthy, and they play with the determination they showed today.

Georgia hasn't had many chances to really be the underdog over the last 3-4 years, so going on the road against #1, against an offense that has shredded everyone and most people picking against them -- he usually never has this much ammo to load up on.

defensive masterclass. holding Texas to 2-14 on third downs is straight-up abusive.

Nico getting hurt was the best thing to happen to him. woke his ass up. stop trying to play perfect -- run like you know how to run, let it rip downfield. his confidence has been shaky and he needs to remember he's one of the most talented players on the field.

defense was elite. really one of the best performance of Banks' career here.

Heupel now has 4 wins against bama and Florida. Tennessee went 1-28 against those teams from 2006 to 2021.

must be nice to have never had a downturn in the program during your lifetimes.

LSU is LSU -- they have so much in-state talent they can win a national title in any year when the stars align, but this was a program that also finished in the top 10 just twice between 1971 and 2000. Saban woke a sleeping giant. and Kelly winning 10 games each of the past two seasons -- and probably 10 more this year -- isn't bad company.

Florida is unique because they've had two HOF coaches that went on absolute ridiculous runs. but not a lot of historical success before, between or after. they were a nothing-program until the Visor landed.

62. "the Yankees have had more down times than Ohio State"
In response to Reply # 61

Buckeyes have had 5-losses in a season just six times over the last 70 years: 1959, 1966, 1988, 1999, 2001, 2011

comparatively, bama has had 18 seasons with 5 losses or more in that same time period

I can't think of any other program besides Ohio State that has had such a prolonged period without a slump (since we've been alive anyway)

from mgoblow and submitting that to the big 10 as a formal legal response.

as well as the next level stupidity of trying to bluff your way into a temporary restraining order only to drop the case when it gets to court. hilarious.

which is why OSU went undefeated the next season whereas mich will be lucky to be bowl eligible.

that's what happens when you try to pull a bank heist instead of actually building a program.

As you have said before, no one knows what targeting is, it’s just vibes at this point.

And they’re winning 31-6.

Coming out throwing was a bad idea tonight. Should’ve tried to run-run-pass meathead white knuckle a 13-10 type win.
