"College Football Week 7 BLOCKBUSTER Saturday"
Fri Oct-11-24 12:07 PM by guru0509

Last weekend was indeed a set up ..we saw multiple top ten teams take a tumble

RED RIVER RIVALRY UT vs OU

First time texas has been #1 going into this game since 1984

Quinn Ewers back. Texas is a two touchdown favorite... Archie back to the bench to patiently wait his time, the injury took him out of hte Heisman race (IMO) but I think he definitely wants an invite and Sark will do his best to let him eat..

The Sooners have won five of the last six meetings, including a four-game streak from 2018-2021. They're also 4-3 in the series when Texas is ranked in the Top 5. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is 1-2 in the rivalry game and Oklahoma's Brent Venables has split their first two meetings.

4 PSU @ USC

Uh, Lincoln Riley has the exact same record as Clay Helton after the same amount of games....there is no way he saw Miller Moss all spring and felt good about what he had lol.

James Franklin has yet to win a big road game , IDK if this is a big game, but he needs this win just as bad for anyone to take him seriously

if USC loses, oh boy. Lincoln Riley, update your resume. Schedule doesnt get easy

9 Ole Miss @ 13 LSU

Night game, in the Bayou...nuff said. Lane

BTW the number one player in the country, Quarterback Bryce Underwood from Bellville Michigan, is headed to LSU, lol but Dave Portnoys is luring a bag for him to switch , interesting day and age in recruiting

2 *T*OSU @ Oregon

The 2nd most important game on the schedule this season, the first time we will be tested vs similar athletes and a young coach that isnt afraid to push the envelope and take risks.

Homecoming of sorts for Chip Kelly....

a few years ago the #12 Ducks came into Columbus on the 100th anniversary of the shoe and blew the doors off our #3 team and the defense, under Mario Cristobal, with their best Wr/DB/rb missing. That was when I started losing faith in Ryan Day and CJ Stroud in big games. A game that I took my fmaily to (after a decade of being away from campus) and spent thousands only to leave unsatisfied.

I think we are better in every single facet, and I think the score will reflect that.

That was a great play by Pierce to strip Mertz.

Also, that 4th & 1 go was very Brandon Staley-esque. It is a great spark, though.

they can't stop anyone since the first half of the GA game. continued penalties and mistakes isn't helping. it just puts more pressure on milroe to save the games.

this not currently a playoff team.

good times

this is a program that has been utter shit for the duration of the 21st century save for a 3 year window that required a rivalry game forfeit and a massive on-field cheating scandal to pull off.

you claimed this would be a reload season but they've reverted to their default mediocrity overnight.

the remaining elite talent on the team leaves after this season. so when exactly is this team expected to be competitive again?

and we haven't even gotten to the NCAA portion of the show yet. who knows what the NCAA will do, but if they rule harshly this shit is gonna get really really ugly.

Ohio States offense is fine with Howard.

Ohio States defense is not in a good place. No big time DE pass rusher to create pressure or havoc. DBs were lost out there. Shawn Springs, Antoine Winfield, Ahmed Plummer, Nate Clements, Chris Gamble and Malcolm Jenkins wept.

it's been a big change compared to stroud/mccord. they're now effective in short yardage, can run the qb sneak, are more diversified in the red zone, and howard has been willing to tuck it and run and get some tough yards.

this is a team that was supposed to be led by its defense...that game was on them.

my hope is that they can rebound from that defensive effort and get things sorted out. but regardless of end result id like see a change at DC after this season.

Regardless, if they lose tonight, they're good enough to at least go to a bowl game, which is a pretty big deal, actually, for it only being Deion's second year.

I still don't know if he'll stick around for Year 3, but its clear that he could win a bunch of games if he ever learns to fill out a roster top to bottom with talent.

I'd say they could turn the defense around and maybe they can.

but what they can't do is replace starting LT Simmons who was injured during the game and is now gone for the year. hard to see them accomplishing their goals with that being the case. especially if the defense can't carry the team.

may need to move on from Knowles after this year

esp with a potential rematch in literally a few weeks with the way time is flying by these days....

But you cant win a CFB championship without an ELITE QB...and Will Howard is not. Now I'm annoyed were wasting a season on him instead of giving valuable playing time to a talented 5* freshman w promise (Air Nolan / Julian Sayin) etc

Chip Kelly just got here, I'm not gonna bitch about the playcalling. Howard didnt exectute on a handful of throws and/or failed to use his legs and take off running. Chip gets a "i just got here" pass, and a chance to redeem himself in november/ december

Defense is trash, overrated last year, still soft as hell this year. Everyone on that side needs to go, NOW....which leads me to my next thing..

...I cannot wait until the Ryan Day era is over. I was done with him 2 years ago. Fraud . Cubic Zirconia. A Rolex you buy on Canal street. His defenders (not you 3x, just poeple on reddit/11w/etc) kill me with the way they think hes the only one that knows how to sweet talk an elite high school talent. Aside from Justin Fields, every one of his QBs did not live up to the standard (Haskins RIP was Urban's recruit)

The only way that is going to happen is if we lose often and I cannot bring myself to cheer for my alma mater to lose, or if he leaves for the NFL. So at this point I'll just grin and bear it bc I dont want to be Mr negative around Buckeye fans that are usually cheery / upbeat/ optimistic.

New lowered season expectations...If we beat michigan, I'll be happy. Before the season I thought we were going to run through them with 31-7 / 45-10 type scoreline but now it's going to be a a tough dogfight, until the end.

Anything after that is a bonus, a rematch with Oregon in Indianapolis would be really nice

If Day had pulled this 12 men on the field trickery to end a game - would he be receiving the same 'genius' praise as lanning is or would everyone be mocking him for being a total bitch?

props i guess for Lanning being aware of the situation and finding the loophole and all that. but his defense had the game on the line at home with one of the loudest crowds in the country in their corner and they got absolutely marched on. knife through butter.

as osu was making its way to a well earned chip shot field goal to win the game - the football aspect of the game ended and it became a ref show/ncaa rulebook party. when you intentionally put that extra man on the field to prevent a big play *and* take time off the clock you're basically conceding that you can't compete on the field and need a bailout.

and a side note. osu defense was rightfully maligned for their performance, but do we feel any better about the oregon defense? both offenses racked up 500 total yards and did just about whatever they wanted. osu got next to zero pressure on gabriel. oregon got even less pressure on howard. oregon was missing its best DE. osu lost 2 OL starters and their starting TE in the first half. factor that into the equation however you wish.

but anyways, if Day won the game off that trick (in addition one of his players spitting into the face of an opponent) I really don't think we're throwing a victory parade for him.

regardless, looks like the loophole is going to be rightfully closed pretty soon...so happy my team could be the inspiration for change!

NCAA mulling in-season action after Oregon's controversial late-game situational move helped Ducks beat Ohio State
Ross Dellenger

Oregon mounts huge stop on OSU's final driveScroll back up to restore default view.
Oregon coaches exploited a loophole in the rulebook and it could result in in-season action from the NCAA.

With 10 seconds left in the Ducks’ win over Ohio State on Saturday, the Buckeyes were driving to get into range for what would have been a game-winning field goal when Oregon called a timeout. After the stoppage, the Ducks sent 12 defenders onto the field for a third-down play that resulted in an incomplete pass and left Ohio State with just six seconds on the clock.

Unlike the NFL, NCAA rules do not reset the clock to where it was before the snap when a 12-men penalty is assessed, meaning Oregon essentially traded having an extra defensive back on an obvious passing down for a five-yard penalty that burned four seconds off the clock — a savvy move that is now garnering scrutiny.

Steve Shaw, the NCAA secretary rules editor, told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday that the NCAA Football Playing Rules Committee is actively “engaged” in examining the play for possible action. The Big Ten officiating crew handled the play appropriately, Shaw said, but the rules committee is discussing a way to address the play.

“We’ve had good dialogue on this play,” Shaw told Yahoo Sports. “We’ve recognized the way it played out.”

Mid-season rules interpretations are not common but they have happened in the past for similar plays that violate a rules committee component — that a penalty should not benefit the team penalized. The goal of any interpretation is to discourage coaches from further exploiting the rules, which can only be changed during a longer off-season process.

To discourage the action in the Oregon-Ohio State game, any interpretation would likely direct officials to return the game clock to its original time. Shaw declined to comment on any specifics.

In an interview on Monday, a grinning Oregon coach Dan Lanning seemed to acknowledge that coaches intentionally inserted a 12th player — a defensive back — to assist in an obvious passing down.

“We spend an inordinate amount of time on situations, and there are some situations that don't show up very often in college football,” he said, “but this is one that obviously we have worked on. So you can see the result.”

As you said, both offenses basically did whatever they wanted

I suppose I was a bit more disappointed in OSUs defense as I expected more from them because they have historically played better.

Oregons defense played about what I expect from them in big games against good offenses, which is not well. For all the media hype for Lanning, he really hasn’t been able to field an elite or upper echelon defense the likes of Bama, Georgia, Penn State, etc.

Anytime Lanning and Oregon play a good offense they get carved up. Penix and UW carved them up twice last season, UW beat them in 22, Jonathan Smith and Oregon State dominated them 2 years ago.

Ohio State sliced and diced them up on Saturday night, just like all the previous times Lanning has played against a good offense and he was about to lose again if he didn’t put that 12th defender on the field. He knew it and that’s why he did what they did.

Ohio State has more prestige and more haters, enjoy it

right off the bat Michigan fans are going to amplify any critiques of Day (and vice-versa with Lloyd, Harbaugh, etc), and the rest of the traditional Big 18 fanbases are more intense than the Pac-12

Washington fans, Oregon State fans...whoever roots for USC -- there is not the same vitriol awaiting every Oregon fuck up

plus everybody loves a bandwagon, and throwing shots at Ryan Day is one that Ohio State fans are driving themselves half the time

I get where all that is coming from and that's fine.

I genuinely wanted to know what people thought of the move from a purely competition perspective

at its core, any game is just the set of codified rules by which its played

if you make the rules work for you, that just means youre good at the game

“We practice those things so extensively, look at me, I’m so great, I really prepare my players so well, I’m so clever.”

Man, eat the fattest of dicks.
