"Spring NBA: The Final Push"
Wed Mar-27-24 06:43 PM by Dstl1

Jury's still out on consistency, obviously, and certainly his defense has always left something to be desired, but when he came into the league, I thought he was a guy who could be a big time scorer, All-Star type dude. He scored 18 PPG in the G-League when he should've been in college. It's just hard to believe anyone who can hoop at that level at that young an age can't figure it out in due time.

The talent and atheleticism has always been there. He just needed maturity and work ethic.

Regardless of what you think about him having a baby with a woman basically twice his age, it seems like the realities of being a father, or just general maturity that comes with living have kicked that piece into gear.

The last piece is just making it permanent, night in and night out.

He honestly could have dropped 15 threes today if Thibs and the Nova boys let him cook after the first quarter. He is what OG Knicks fans wanted when we had Charlie Ward. He is learning from Brunson so I expect that next season, in addition to the threes, his midrange bag is going to be violently glorious.

Being a Lakers fan stuck in this horrendous purgatory aside, 7 through 10 in both conferences is actually interesting.

I wasn't a fan of the PI- and didn't care for that embarrassment of a celebration or the banner- but the net effect has made the positioning battles a bit more exciting at the bottom end of the playoff pool.

The next thing that needs to happen is for a team that wins the play in to actually advance a playoff round.

In response to Reply # 9

I’ve adjusted my perception of it since.

I still think it punishes 7/8.

Now it’s top 6 get a guaranteed slot and 7-10 have to duke it out. It makes that range more exciting down the playoff stretch but you can have a solid lead in terms of games and still miss out because of an off night, and I don’t like that for the teams.

As a fan, it’s been a boon for me so I have no complaints there.

As far as teams advancing, Lakers went from the PI to the WCF against the champs last year.

So between them and Miami, we’ve seen it pay real dividends on that front.

I think at this point, every play in has had at least one team move up in the playoff positioning. But let's be honest - with the old system, how many intriguing 1/8 matchups have we seen? A handful at best (Dallas/GSW comes to mind, of course).

But with the new system - surging teams in the 9/10 spot (and hell, even the 7/8 teams who have to go up against some fire to stay in) have generally made those matchups more intriguing.

I dunno, it's fun.

kinda messed up, Harden completely changes his game, averages nearly 11 assists per contest (while still putting up 21 points 6 rebounds), helps Embid get the MVP trophy...then gets tossed aside by Morey.

I'd love them to only have to win one game to get into the playoffs - though really, beggars can't be choosers (if we get OKC in the first round though - I like our chances).

The West is a bloodbath that the Nuggets will more than likely come out of.

The play in has made the regular season really fun.

all of that will improve.

It feels like the entire league has maybe a 2-3 year window to win anything. Then it's over for quite some time.

Seriously, the team the Spurs fielded last night was *pitiful*. Obviously their record reflects that in general, and they've shut down Keldon and Sochan. And they still gave the defending champs a game (albeit, we're not playing great right now and missing Jamal).

Anywho, if SA gives him a roster that is just a little better than the trash Cleveland gave Bron in the late '00's... they'll win a few. If they actually put a good squad around him? Is there any way at all that's not a world-crushing, decade-long dynasty?

SMH. The West is tough.

There was that one year where the Suns won like 49 or 50 games and didn't make the playoffs...but the West looks to have 10 teams well over .500, plus the Rockets at 11 who will probably win around 40-42 games. Yeesh.

In response to Reply # 38

If they win tonight over Houston, it pretty much knocks the Rockets out; the Warriors would be four ahead in the standings, but it'd really be five since they've already won the season series. Passing the Lakers will be tough, but their next three games are against the Cavs, the Warriors, and the Wolves (all at home tho), plus another against NO. The Warriors are three back on the Kings, but Sacto probably has the hardest remaining schedule of the play-in teams.

Still, I've largely resigned myself that the Warriors are going to stay #10. And then have a REALLY tough road in order to do anything these play-offs.

I mean, not really in the East. That conference is just...yuck. If the Celtics DONT get to the finals...yiiiiikes. Still, the Knicks and Magic look to be spoilers and that could be a lot of fun. Plus, with Embiid back and the slumping Bucks...the takes are going to be fun.

Intriguing matchups all over though. Minnesota and OKC probably don't want much of some of the potential lower seeded playoff teams given their inexperience. They'd be favored, of course...but I don't know that SGA and Chet want to play the Lakers, Warriors, or Suns.

Seeing the Clippers against the Mavs is just going to be good.

Denver should (and probably will) beat anyone in 5 in the first round.

It's not THAT wide open, but it's a little wide open.

I should have posted this earlier, before it looked like the Warriors had a (very slim) chance of moving up, but I stand by it regardless. The Warriors blew winnable games all season: before the Draymond suspensions, after the Draymond suspensions, after the (brief) Curry injury. If the team can't make it to the 8th seed in 82 games, then too bad. Better luck next season. It's nice that we're playing well this late, and that Klay is figuring it out and Kuminga, Moddy, Jackson-Davis, and Podziemski are all growing into what the team needs them to be. But it doesn't mean that we should have a shot at the 8th seed without the record to back it up.

So do all the West teams from 6-10, unfortunately. 45ish wins has, historically, been usually enough for a 7-8 seed. I like the play in a lot - but in a crowded field like this, it's even more fun.

Golden state sitting at 10 is 3 games behind N.O. at6 LA and Warriors are good enough teams to have a shot at a playoff run.

The EAST would be the example to NOT have a play in. the 9th seed is 7 games back of the 8th seed and the hawks or bulls making any type of run is the longest of long shots.

In fact, during the 2007-08 season, we finished with 48 wins (one more win than it's possible to get this year) and missed the play-offs to a 50 win Denver team. And it sucked, since it was the post "We Believe!" season and we were even better than the year before. But we shit the bed and lost three of the last four, including a head-to-head to Denver. And blew a lot of winnable games before that. Plus, that was the season that Stephen Jackson got suspended for something he did when he wasn't even on the Warriors.

In both cases, it would be annoying to win that many games and miss the play-offs, but it's not like the team didn't have the tools to put itself in a better position earlier.

Hell, the Warriors and the Lakers have had somewhat similar, frustrating seasons and they've both put themselves squarely in the play-in from dumb decisions throughout the year.

But I can absolutely see you guys spoiling the season of one of the young upstarts in the playoffs if you make it there. Last year was probably the most fun non-title years I can remember as a fan (probably since the 05-06 squad) because there was ZERO expectations of the team to win the West or win a title.

For one, I agree...if you can't get top 8 then no playoffs.

2nd, the NBA media machine has been over analyzing the standings for months. What if this, what if that, etc. Shit is just overkill at this point.

Related to the point above, I become increasingly convinced that the play-in was a way for the NBA to keep the Lakers/Lebron (and somewhat less so, the Warriors) relevant as they age.

I get that they are the Lakers, but they simply don't deserve to be talked about as much as they are I'm sorry. No shade to Laker nation...its just undeserved attention that would not be there if it wasn't for the play-in.

NBA machine has been hyping potential matchups for months...most of that focused on who will play the Lakers or Warriors, etc. Most nights that's getting a lot more attention than the upper seeds.

Lakers were floating below 8th...essentially having 10 post-season teams makes it far less likely the league won't have a reason to hype their jewel franchise.

Also, 8th seed is still technically in the play-in.

Like I said, I don't mean offense. The Lakers are the league's biggest franchise...I just think finding new ways to talk more about them rather than teams that are having more success is corny and becoming increasingly transparent.

Which I think is my main beef with all of Silver's gimmicks. None of them are to improve the game, etc....just painfully obvious attempts at emulating other leagues, etc to maximize views. Comes off as insecure about his product.

There is no shortage of stars out there waiting to be made/elevated in the national consciousness.

So naturally the focus, in terms of discourse and especially TV time, is Steph (10th place), Bron (9th place), and throw KD in there too (7th place). Again, when we're seeing some of the strongest team and individual basketball being played in the history of the game.

They've got their core locked up for a few more years, I believe.

Tatum has a player option for 25-26. Brown's locked in through 29. Porzingis through 26. I have to think they hold on to Derrick White, too.

Obviously, you would rather not pay a 37 year old Jrue Holiday (who...didn't he want to retire? Am I making that up?) 30-35 million, but they're pushing the chips in. I respect it.

I can understand the need if you have multiple teams tied at #8, but wtf should the #10 seed have an equal opportunity to make the playoffs as a #7 seed??

The Sixers finished in a 3 way tie, but fell to the 7 seed. They finished only 3 games behind the #2 seed. The Hawks finished 11 games behind the Sixers at 36-46. What a joke. Half the conference already makes the playoffs, why throw a bone to the #10 seed?

7 vs. 8 winner gets the 7 seed. The. The loser of that game faces the winner of the 9 vs. 10 game for the 8 seed

Cause more games = more $$$. I’m not saying it’s fair, but that’s driving the expansion of the playoffs in every sport.

Also fuck the Sixers

It’s unlikely, but the Sixers could still theoretically miss out on the playoffs if they lose 2 in a row. In do or die games, anything can happen. I wouldn’t have any sympathy if that’s what happens, but it’s crazy to me that anyone wants to see a #10 seed in the playoffs…with rare exceptions when a conference might have a lot of parity. And that’s never really been the norm ever in the NBA.

A 7 seed losing 2 straight games probably won't do anything in the first round anyway, so why not get a team with some momentum in there?

I don't think a 7 seed has fallen OUT of the playoffs in the play in yet. But 8 seeds have (and 7's have become 8 seeds). It does add some intrigue.

the product. If 2/3 of the teams qualify or may potentially qualify to make the playoffs, that creates a watered down product. At this point, why not just let the whole league in? I mean, how much momentum can a #10 seed possibly have?

I’m just complaining at this point. It just seems silly to me that a league so fixated on preventing teams from tanking and players from load management that they create more games and opportunities to not take the regular season as seriously.

But every year they've had it - a team has moved up in the play in. On it's OWN, that's whatever. But also last year - 2 conference finalists and 1 conference champion came from the play in. The parity in the league right now is pretty incredible - and while I don't subscribe to the idea that there are MORE contenders because of the play in, I do think it's given fans of some franchises a bit more hope in winning a series or two.

I think it makes teams take it more seriously, because a 10 seed still has a fighting chance to, bare minimum, get a series out of it, with a shot at more if the chips fall just right.

Last year a 7 seed and an 8 seed made their respective Conference Finals, and if this runs long enough we’ll see a 10 seed make the semis or even more. There are scenarios where that’s plausible, ie an early favorite getting hit with a rash of injuries that lead to the fall, etc.

My issue remains that it effectively punishes 7/8 seeds. The prior system wasn’t broke, but this does add intrigue, excitement, and weight to those teams in the middle.

I see the benefit and the detriment. It’s ultimately a coin flip for me.

All things considered, it’s a net gain and I land on “somewhat beneficial”, but I wouldn’t shed a tear if they switched back to the old system next year.

We used to see teams resting stars for the stretch run (not sure league rules would allow that now) bc alot of teams (especially vet teams) didn't care about seeding or HC advantage.

Now you have to play out the stretch bc you could drop into the play in.

Plus the middling teams that hover in the 9-12 standings range are still giving it their all for a shot in the play in. Without the play in, they tank.

I admit the East play-in is dumb but who gives a fuck. Ignore those games if you must. I don't def get the 'its not fair' aspect though. How many teams that make the playoffs is always an arbitrarily chosen number anyway.

was it fair that a competitive 9 seed might have missed out on the playoffs even though they had a better record than playoff teams in the other conference??

At least with the scenario, you increase the chances of the best 16 teams making the playoffs.

I would have rather the season just ended with the win over the Jazz. Would have gone out on a (relative) high note, knowing the future actually looked bright.

I’m not interested in assigned blame or scapegoats for the season. Blame is for small children. I do think the “it’s over” talk is overstated. I’ll save the rest for any off-season post.

Ah well. Better luck next season.

y'all act like you never watch the warriors.

do you have any idea what the warriors would be without Draymond. you think they're trash now? LOL.

it's not a crazy contract, he's the glue of the team as constituted, and he's still tradeable if you wanna go that route because he's not OLD old and the money isn't CRAZY. there are at least 8-10 teams who'd take him in a heartbeat.

if you hate draymond? cool i don't care. but saying re-signing him was a mistake is the mistake you think the contract is.

i'm guessing the Warriors re-sign Klay on the "cheap," but he can't be Option #2 anymore. Kuminga still seems too raw though he's having more moments, so i dunno where they go (assuming they keep Klay). i dunno what their draft capital is like as far as using it to make a big move goes. i assume it's not great.

lol who?

he WAS a valuable player to them. not anymore...the warriors win *despite* draymond nowadays, not due to him.

edit, and i still believe if they had shipped him out and kept Durant, they would have won more rings than the Chicago Bulls.

but when i say glue guy i mean how they team operates on offense AND defense, not the internal interpersonal relationships - not that i'm saying those don't matter.

those DO matter, but at the end of the day it's still a job and if guys are professional enough they can put that aside to do the task at hand.

lastly, fwiw, we don't REALLY know what these guys personal connections are these days. Steph being frustrated at Draymond on national TV doesn't mean Steph wants Draymond off the team. he could, or he could not. we don't know.

for the folks calling for Golden State to replace Klay and Draymond; who do you think Golden State should replace them with?

One player that seemingly is escaping a bit of attention on the Warriors is Andrew Wiggins. Since winning the championship two years ago, he's regressed terribly; I'm assuming this has to do with injuries since he was the Warriors second best player during the playoff run outside of Curry, but I could be wrong. Assuming the Warriors do try to break the team up, I'm assuming they would try to move on from him.

Also have to wonder what this pre-first round exit will mean for Chris Paul's prospects as well.

he kinda re-discovered his spark the last 20 games of the season.

he wasn't great last night though, and they really need him - doubly so since Klay couldn't make a shot.

i think he's too good of player that they'll let him go. they might change his role though depending on if they can make significant changes.

BUT, if they blow it up then it seems like he'd be a nice piece for a contender to add.

not sure of who that is but it ain’t Clay anymore. Not the same since that injury

Wiggins.. I didn’t follow this year but didn’t he leave twice this season? No idea what that is about but he has something else going on and until he figures that out he isn’t consistent or reliable.

how hard is it to replace a defender and a streaky shooter?

Niggas look old and tired

get some scrappy youth on this team.

but real talk, move on from Draymond. That dude is a liability.

In response to Reply # 0

link: https://www.theplayerstribune.com/posts/jalen-brunson-new-york-knicks-nba-basketball

swipe:

To My New York Family

Dear New York,

It’s crazy how much can change in one year.

When I came here to the Knicks, I knew I’d have the opportunity to lead and have a voice in helping these guys become a better team. So when I got to NYC that summer, in 2022, that was my goal first and foremost — how can we lead this team to win? Across my entire basketball career, going back to middle school and high school, I’ve held a countless number of roles on teams. Role player. Captain. You name it. I’ve been almost every single guy on the roster. I’ve been in situations where I’ve had to lead, and where I’ve been led. So coming here, I understood what I needed to do.

Anyone who knows me can tell you, I’ve never been the kind of guy who enjoys being in the spotlight. I like to keep things simple. I live a regular lifestyle as best I can. I think what’s been most important in everything, is keeping the people I love close to me, having my family keeping me humble and in the right frame of mind. They keep me grounded and keep me straight on the mental side, and I’m really thankful for it. I honestly couldn’t do it without them.

That’s been the major theme since I got here … family. When it comes to what it means to me to be a part of this Knicks era, it all starts there.

Actually, I’ll go back even further. It started in Chicago, in 2010, when my dad became an assistant coach for the Bulls. That’s when I first really understood the type of man and the kind of coach Thibs was. I knew, as a high schooler, that he was a coach who really wanted to win and did whatever it took to do that. And he knew none of that happened without sacrifices — from him, from the players, from everyone down the roster. That showed me the standard early on.

That’s when I started to give this game everything I had, because I was lucky to grow up around the league and see how pro hoopers trained. I was never the biggest freak athlete, so I became a hustle player. I was always gonna fight for the loose ball and take charges, do whatever it takes to get it done. I still remember grinding in the gym late at night after games where I played terribly. Early in the morning, I’d be in there by myself getting in my work — getting my lifts in and working on my shot — all before the first bell. And I was lucky to have the friend group I did, that understood my goals and understood what I was trying to achieve. They never pushed me in a direction like, “Yo, just come hang with us and then do work after.” They were like, “No, no, make sure you get your stuff done and then come see us.” They pushed me in the right direction. And that made life a lot easier for me as a kid.

But the real difference maker is what I learned back then about how that kind of preparation feeds your mindset. Self-doubt is just a natural part of life, especially as a young player. If I’m being honest, I still go through that now. Even when you’re working as hard as you think you can, you’re going to have a little sliver of doubt. But it’s all about your concentration, your preparation and making sure that you’re putting yourself in a position to know that you did everything you could. That’s how you erase that sense of doubt. Some of that came from my dad, some of that was seeing how Thibs operated in Chicago. Playing for a coach now that has seen me grow over the years has been a great and unique experience. I think that’s what’s really at the heart of it all when it comes to that relationship. We’ve both seen where we’ve come from.

Once I got to New York, I understood it even more. It’s been special to be able to play for my dad, and Thibs, for Leon, and this organization. It’s really a dream come true. That’s all I can say. It’s not something that you really think about on a daily basis, right? It’s not in my head when I’m out there on the court. But sometimes when I’m really sitting back and chilling on my own, the magnitude really hits me…. How much it all means, not just to be doing this, but to be doing this with family. It’s easy playing with guys on the court who you’ve known for a decade plus, you know what I mean? When you’ve been playing alongside people as long as I’ve been playing next to Josh and Donte, you just understand them in a whole different way. I know how they like to play. It’s a different vibe. I don’t let myself stop and think about it often, but it does mean a lot to me.

After we made the trade for OG, things started clicking right away. He came to this team and was a force from the jump. The things he’s been able to do and the ways he’s been able to help us on both sides of the ball have been nothing short of spectacular. There aren’t that many players like that, who can just come to a new team and instantly impact the game, without knowing a lot about the system schematically, offensively or defensively. And he just did it right away. He’s such an amazing player with a great approach to the game. Precious has been a bully, too. He’s been a weapon for us, stepping up at key moments, which has been really cool to see.

Coming off that trade, things were great in January. Then OG and Julius got hurt. And Mitchell, too. But when those two went down, we didn’t really have a timetable for them. We were just going out there every single night playing as hard as we could. The most important thing, to us, was that we were staying afloat, we were winning and we were still pointing ourselves in the direction where we were going to be successful. We defined ourselves in those moments of uncertainty. It highlights something key to our game: We know who we are. It’s in the toughest moments that you learn that.

And we’re not letting up. We’re taking that culture, the grit we know we have, that hunger and desire to win, to the playoffs. We’re doing it our way. We have a great opportunity in front of us. One thing about last year that has stuck with me, is this moment in Game 6 in Miami, when I turned the ball over at a crucial possession of the game. Even with all the positives of last season, it’s the moments like that that you remember forever, because you had the opportunity, and you let it slip away. I can still picture it in my mind. So as we lock in, one thing I’m focused on is attention to detail. That’s the message in our locker room. Having the mindset that every little thing matters. I know it seems like something very cliché to say, but when you’re in the playoffs, one possession, a mental error, the tiniest mistake, can cost you.

Listen man, playoffs in the Garden? It’s gonna be surreal. We know you guys are gonna be rockin’ at another level. But the most important thing we have to do is just literally focus on taking it one day at a time. And that’s a message we’re all trying to convey to each other, from the top down — coaches to the players, to everyone. We want to make sure that that’s our whole team’s mindset. We can’t deviate from the path. We all have to be on the same team, we all have to have the same mindset to continue to move forward together.

To the fans: You make a difference for us. I just want to make that abundantly clear. Without you, the Knicks aren’t the Knicks. The unconditional love and support has been phenomenal. It’s an honor to play for New York and play in front of this organization, the city and the fan base. I do not take it for granted one bit.

See you on Saturday.

—Jalen

is going to need Randle if they expect to win a championship. His ability to initiate offense in isolation, occasionally passed the ball, and rebound are assets they'll need to succeed in the East.

Given how much the franchise and coaching staff has seemingly bought into him, I'd be shocked if he got traded, but if they get a decent enough return, I'd certainly welcome it.

They were DOMINANT. Jules gonna come back and we are going to be cooking next year. In the meantime, I am interested in seeing Mitch get his legs back and see Deuce get his shine as well.

I think missing Jules is really the only thing that stands between us running the table.

regardless of randle playing or not.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

They are definitely better when OG is on the floor. I mean DUH, but its still a lot of JB and Donte as far as the offense. With Jules, they were as overwhelming on offense as they are on defense.

Anonoby played were basically the same. cooking.

12-2 with randle and 8-1 without him. if i am correct.

I don't think Randle is the x factor is all i'm saying.

Will the knicks miss his offense without him being there...absolutely. But what he gives on defense and intangibles is huge too.

If Embiid is truly back though, i don't think Knicks beat philly with or without him tho.

And i don't think the knicks are contenders with Julius as the number 2 (unless he changes)

He has to be a facilitator in this series. Lucky for us Deuce and Bogie and Hart were ready. Donte is going to suffer if Brunson keeps hunting for his shots instead of facilitating. Now, if we had Jules, he is the primary scorer and JB facilitates and with them on the floor, Donte and OG go crazy.

I agree with you for the most part, but this season, Brunson was still the primary scorer even when Julius was healthy and available if only because it's far and away easier for Brunson to create his own shot compared to Randle. Don't get me wrong; I'm not as down as some Knicks fans are with Randle and despite his flaws, he does provide some advantages for the Knicks offensively, but the Knicks are much better with Brunson being the first offensive option.

And to be fair, this season before Randle went down, both Brunson and Randle were looking to dish the ball more so that the halfcourt offensive sets weren't so iso-heavy. I have to give Brunson, Randle, and most importantly Thibs and the coaching staff credit for adding that wrinkle to this years offense.

To make this response relevant to this playoff series, I wonder what the Knicks will do to combat the double teaming and trapping the Sixers are using to defend Brunson. I could be wrong, but one benefit to the Sixers doubling Brunson is that it'll leave the open man on the Knicks available to get offensive rebounds, so I wonder how much Nurse will adjust for that insane rebounding disparity from game one.

I'd be shocked and stunned if the Mitchell Robinson that clowned the Cavs frontline last year in the playoffs will be present this year. The man missed too many games IMO for him to be that dominant. I'm hoping him and Hartenstein won't be too riddled with fouls and can keep Embiid honest, especially on the rebounding effort.

Seeing McBride flourish offensively would be so meaningful as he's the last of young players the Knicks drafted and kept. In addition, the better a threat he is on the offensive side of the ball, the longer he can stay in the game to harass Maxey on defense.

>I think missing Jules is really the only thing that stands
>between us running the table.

Even with Randle being healthy, them beating the Celtics is a stretch IMO. While the Knicks with Randle have a much much better bench unit that the Celtics, that defensive backcourt of Holiday+White with Pozingis stetching the floor against our bigs is pretty damn tough to beat in a seven game series.

(and I've asked this here before but I don't remember if I got an answer.)

I love the sports dynamic that comes with cities that have multiple teams from the same sport:

Lakers/Clippers
Cubs/Sox
Mets/Yankees
Giants/Jets

If the Brooklyn Nets ever won a championship, would Brooklyn care?
I know the levels of what would happen if the Knicks won. I get that.
But let's say Kyrie, KD and Harden actually won a ring together.
Would that only be a big deal in Brooklyn? Or would ALL of NY be hype due to proxy?

wow time flies

If Kyrie KD and Harden had won a title it would have been a HUGE deal bc during that time period, LOTS of NJ Nets fans were coming into the city for games from NJ...AND you had all of Brooklyn which was charged up for the Big 3

and Im certain you would have seen a shift in the fandom within the city because they are STARVED for a basketball championship. But that whole thing fell on its face, and the Nets became the stepchild of NYC again.

but now no one wants to see mikal bridges and a busted down ben simmons so Barclays center isnt sold out unless for other star players

Earlier this year I went to a Nets game ONLY because MOP was playing at half time lol.

The Brooklyn Nets sell out Barclays and do well ONLY when they have good promising players, (that 2019 squad before KD and Kyrie) . The Knicks will sell out no matter how good or bad they are.

its about 70 30 split in favor of the Knicks, a Nets title would have made it65/35 MAYBE 60 / 40

but NOTHING, I repeat...NOTHING would come close to a NYK Championship.

They would have to call in the national guard and I'm not even exaggerating. The city might implode lol

after these first round victories the last couple of years is pretty damn wild and almost surreal. The fan base wasn't close to being this rabid when the Knicks were worth a damn in the 90s and made much deeper runs in the playoffs.

That lower Manhattan Parade of Heroes stretch of the championship parade if the Knicks actually won a ring almost makes me not want to attend the parade since I'm sure those narrow financial district streets would probably be packed to the seams.

as a trio in addition to not getting any great post-season success compared to their lofty expectations is part of why that Nets team didn't get a ton of attention. If that trio had garnered longer post-season runs or even better actually won a title or two, I think a good portion of the city as a whole would have given them attention. Due to the fact the Knicks literally have been in NYC longer, I don't think NYC would be a Nets town, but they'd definitely have their fair share of fans if only because of the attention that trio would garner, even if the fanbase wouldn't be deeply rooted Nets fans per say.

When Brooklyn initially moved to Brooklyn and the team assembled their somewhat geriatric version of the super team (older Garnett, older Paul Pierce, older Deron Williams, and not yet in his defensive prime Brook Lopez), that team definitely had the attention of the city. I remember seeing a ton of merch for the team when the franchise touched down in Brooklyn. Having an actual contending team would only add to that attention IMO.

no call at the end of the game. Lowry missed a key free throw - which at worst could’ve ensured a tie. Horrible sequence by the Sixers, but obviously some home-cooking involved too.

realizing Denver got the last shot w/ plenty of time to set it up after that miss.

but, i guess if it goes in then he's (probably) the hero.

but i don't like it. take the clock down and take it to the hole and get fouled or kick out for an in rhythm 3.

But shooting a 27' three while the game is tied with that much time left on the clock isn't a good shot. Yes, he was open, but missing it gave DEN enough time to get off a really good shot. It was just poor clock management.

But hats off to DEN. This was the game the Lakers needed, and now they might as well gather the team and break the huddle with "1-2-3-Cancun"+ on Thursday.

He's a monster out there. I wasn't in on him winning the MVP last year because his team's resume to that point wasn't in line with the other three-peat MVPs.

But skill-wise and production-wise, he is an all-timer. I wouldn't know where to slot him as far as the top 25, but he'll probably be closer to the top 15 by the time he's done. Especially if he wins another chip or two.

At that point, he'd been a 2 time all star, 1 first team, 1 second team, and first team rookie.

Now he's about to rip off his 3rd MVP and a pretty damn solid chance at another FMVP.

I know many are impressed with the longevity and stat padding, but I think dude has hurt his legacy more than helped it the last couple years.

Front-runnin ass dude is a giant baby. You blew a 20 point lead, missed a wide open 3 that you shouldn't have even taken, and had the nerve to come in crying about a phantom foul on D-lo? FOH

I also love that AD cried about not being a DPOY finalist...then Jokic ate him up and Murray had him looking like a life alert commercial at the end.

These dudes are SOFT soft. Take away D-wade and a Donkey Mouth suspension and this dude's career looks mad suspect when you think about it.

Should have called it a career after the bubble chip or the year after. Sticking around has just been a reminder of how much help this guy constantly needs.

4 more all star teams (which pushed him into the all time leader there)
1 second team
2 third teams (probably another one this year)
All time leading scorer and counting

But yeah. Definitely hurting his legacy in his later years!

Do you guys just let your hate think for you? It seems exhausting.

(for record i think lakers take tmrw night, but then its 1-3 hill back to denver after sat.)

you being laker fan: a button is presented to you today--you press, and the AD trade never happened.. and you got joshhart/BI/lonzo (and whatever version of that lonzo is with lakers med staff tending to him vs bulls staff..maybe hes same, maybe not..) back + the 3 1sts (and whatever those guys are now obvs..). essentially (probably) no bubble chip, but whatever your chances of competing for titles since then with what all those guys have developed into instead.. would you do it?

(this just reminded me of that last scene in Ocean's 11, with danny asking andy garcia if he'd exchange his $160mill back..)

I loved all of the young guys and continue to root for them - but not one of them has turned into a true star. Sure, BI made an all star team and he probably should have made another…but he’s not a superstar in the way AD is.

It was a lot to trade, of course.

But I can’t expect a front office to construct a contender around the Hart/BI/Lonzo/Nance squad when they can’t around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Worst thing was the Westbrook trade. That farrrrrrr surpasses giving up a lot for a top 75 guy in his prime.

The combination of players + picks + swaps was obscene and still is.

The bubble chip skews this thought experiment though, and objectively makes it a dead issue because they achieved the goal any team has when going all in like that.

Without that title though? Fuck no I wouldn’t do it again.

The LeBrow Era has been a mess of mediocrity, with blame to be shared by all the key figures: Jeanie, Rob, and LeBrow. Probably the stupid fucking Rambii too. The Westbrook deal was a disaster both short and long term, but the AD deal had already crippled our ability to tweak the team, rendering the Westbrook deal a critical must win that did anything but.

It could have been even worse had they not pulled the DLo trade out of their ass. Thankfully they didn’t make the moronic decision some wanted and trade a pick for a broken down John Wall, but the fact that we were in a position where a dumb move like that would even be considered says it all.

Sure, we’ve had a few bright spots, with Reeves and Hibachimura🔥 becoming quality role players with interesting (not incredible) upside. But the LeBrow era has been about fighting just to get into the playoffs, and that’s not a scenario you bet the house to get.

The title neutralizes significant downsides to the AD deal, but without it, there’s no reasonable conclusion other than that the LeBrow era has been a failure.

as I see most Knicks fans online are. It was definitely a dirty bush-league move by Embiid though.

Potentially losing Mitchell Robinson for the remainder of the series and/or season concerns me much more; all those damn three pointers given up in last night's third quarter of doom ranks a close second in terms of concern for me.

Watching this Knicks team makes me realize how much the Knicks miss Randle as it's so much harder for anyone not named Jalen Brunson to create their own shot consistently and dependably in a seven game playoff series in half court sets. Sounds so obvious as I type out this response, but last night's game made it glaringly apparent.

It’s less if we count from the AD trade, with LeBrow coming in at 41.4, and both averages factor in the 2020 52 win Bubble Chip season.

A chip is a chip, but this has been a straight up failure apart from that one season.

is the amount of instability that comes with having Bron on your team. How many coaches have ya'll had the last few years? How many hail mary trades? Signings that didn't work out?

Growing up the Lakers made big moves but eventually found an equilibrium to be successful.

Don't hand the keys of your franchise to Clutch sports, cuz when Bron leaves, your team is in tatters.

It becomes more and more obvious that Bron and his team refuse to buy-in to anything that isn't 100% Lebron focused, so you get rotating coaches that will embrace Bron ball only to be scapegoated when it doesn't work, hail mary trades and signings trying to recreate a big 3, etc. And when he's done, your assets are toast, etc.

Tough to watch him looking up at the stat board as the Nugs go up 3-0 too. I've honestly never seen a player check that stat board so much.

Not trying to be an ass, but as we get more data on this experiment that bubble chip looks even more questionable.

Theoretically Jokic/Davis and Murray/LeBron are push/pull but the former are solving quantum equations while the latter linger in the physical realm. I say this as a guy that has not and does not like the playoffs MORE without LeBron...but if this is a game about how 1-2 compliment 3-7, as astounding as LeBron's year was on paper, those numbers don't mean the same as Joker's.

Obviously there are arguments to be made about how Game 2 ended, and I think the Buffalo Wild Wings and team-affiliated sports bars of the world deserve to have them. Treat that as a gift from the one first round series without any potential for drama at all.

(I don't mean to discount Thunder/Pelicans, but pairing Zion's play-in injury with Ingram's renewed passion for self-indulgent pouting really soured me on a series I thought had to at least go 6, slightly favoring the Pelicans because I'm an idiot. Lakers could steal 1, even 2 if they're as mad as they claim. Pelicans are turkeys.)

(Second edit: Forgot I dropped Celtics in the header. Losing without Butler was embarrassing. The Heat are the Shang Tsung to their Liu Kang. This team should clock maybe 2 losses before the Finals, yet THIS is the game they lose? Por-sling-dick's stat line was WHAT? The Lakers might not have the game they used to, but they could still get a 1-on-1 with anybody in the room. It's befuddling that the Celtics continue to mumble at dimes.)

since this is only the first round of the playoffs, but what a legendary performance from Brunson. I say that mainly because no one else was scoring in the half court outside of him on a consistent basis.

It appears Philly isn't going to double and trap him and won't leave open looks for the other Knicks.

Who are the teams with enough draft capital to pull off a trade for Durant and/or Booker with the Suns? Have to assume the Suns will want to look for a ton of draft picks to recoup on what they had to give up to get Durant and Beal.

To my knowledge, I'm only aware of the Knicks and the Thunder that still have a ton of picks; is Minnesota among those two teams right now?

As much as a Knicks fan as I am, I want to wait until the Knicks are officially out of the playoffs before I entertain them wanting to trade for dudes this off-season.

i been feeling it for a minute with some of the athleticism and moves.

but now? it looks like he got that dawg in him like they did.

dunking on fools and making fun of them in the postgame type dawg.

the way he was going at Durant this whole series? that's what you wanna see in your "heir apparent."

and, he hasn't even come close to maxing out what he can do.

i think he's here.

he was singlehandedly on his way to changing how people felt about the Hornets, whether they won or not.

unfortunately, injuries have stunted his breakout.

in hindsight, Edwards looks the better choice for sure.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

almost 25% of the season IIRC

(he is a talented player though, just nowhere near as good as Edwards nor as fundamentally sound on both sides of the ball)

Perfect personality for the league - like Barkley, but a guard so he'll get the fan accolades big dudes don't for whatever reason.
