"'24 NFL Free-Agency, lead up and actual"
Mon Mar-04-24 09:52 AM by Dstl1

The new league year begins Wed., March 13th

DAMN! Mike Evans just re-signed for 2/52 with 35 guaranteed. It was just announced he was gonna hit the market. Not that Jerry and Stephen make that move, but a guy can dream.

Lots of interesting tidbits...

When does Ryan Poles make his move and where does Justin go? I've been saying it since like Week 2 and I'm standing on it...the Bears simply will NOT be able to resist picking a QB with that pick and will trade dude. They're waiting for the market to materialize if they don't already know.

Probably losing Tyron...SALUTE, Cowboy Legend!! When he's out there, he's still a very good player. Problem is, he's out there less and less. He's gonna be looking for a much bigger number than his durability will allow, here. Looks like Gallaup and Tony Pollard will be heading out, as well.

Some nice names on this list....

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

thing, but...Russ will make 39 million this year, if he just plays Madden. If there's a team that is "a quarterback away", he can literally help them (and himself) by taking a little as possible and having them put that other bread towards the roster. Will he, however, go to a team where he's not guaranteed a job? I can't see a 35 year old 300 millionaire fighting in camp for the spot.

his rookie deal is up after this season. if acquired, you only have 17 games to figure out if Fields is worth $40 million a year. he's not a cheap option to build around or develop anymore, he has to be *carrying* a franchise on his own by the end of 2024.

if the Bears are expecting someone to risk a first rounder on that proposition, they are mistaken. Chicago should be happy with a second rounder or performance-based third rounder that could become a second.

I don’t see it at all.

He reminds me of AJ McCarron or Mac Jones. Just a QB on a really talented championship team.

Last 5 games before the playoffs he had 1TD and 1INT.

Dude barely passed the ball after the Purdue game.

Saw a mock with him going to the Giants and it feels like he is just a younger Daniel Jones.

What am I missing?

and anyone who watched him play every game saw this coming a mile away

he got hurt very early in the PSU game so they limited his exposure as much as possible until they needed him to go 16/20 against OSU and throw 3 TDs vs the "vaunted" Bama secondary

if you watched him and couldnt see the windows he was hitting, or the way he kept his eyes downfield on the move, or the athleticism that put him 4th *overall* in the 3 cone drill at the combine...im not really sure what else to say.

those other guys combine results are readily available, and the only thing ANY of them had on JJ was Mac Jones college productivity grade.

nobody but you sees them as similar.

idk why "worst game of the year" is even part of this?

Im not convinced that holding Michigan to only 303 rushing yards doesnt constitute one of their *best* performances of the year, for one thing.

And for another, they ran for 303 yards, got complimentary play from the QB (who suffered multiple drops), and won by 3 TDs.

If he had turnovers that led to even a nail biter finish, not to mention a loss, you might have a point. But this aint it.

looking back, him and Ruggs definitely got the "bama boost" and were overrated for playing on a great team

those were the first two receivers drafted in a class with

CeeDee Lamb
Justin Jefferson
Brandon Aiyuk
Tee Higgins
Michael Pittman

taken over the next 20 picks after that pair

for an Outback gift card with $27 left on it. A possible 6th rounder for the 15th overall pick is crazy. Also…what is JAX doing? 🤔

Jags weren't going back to Outback anyway o they're kicking the tires on a backup / covering their azz as cheaply as they think they can in-case TL ain't it for them and they want to get out of it? Maybe?

It is wild how the league is trying to figure out how to manage their QB situations. If you don't have one of the top 3-5 dudes for sure, you basically need options. Or you might fuck around and be paying a dude you kinda don't ein like 40 million a season. Its a wild time.

In response to Reply # 67

Like McNabb, Russ was a very talented player who nonetheless took his legendary coach and consistently well stocked rosters for granted. (McNabb in Philly / Russ in Seattle)

Like McNabb, Russ got high on his own supply and failed to consider that his unorthodox personality traits could be grating. (Both McNabb and Russ were unpopular in their respective locker rooms by the end of their tenure in Philly and Seattle)

Like McNabb, Russ was traded from a stable environment to an unorganized and desperate club who had no demonstrable plan for success and was in no way equipped to accentuate his remaining strengths as a player (McNabb to Washington / Russ to Denver)

So now, like McNabb, Russ is shipped to a team who has a sturdy foundation but is hopeless at QB and seeking a shortcut (McNabb to Minnesota / Russ to Pittsburgh)

Russ will be fine.

And Saquon was in the midst of a highly emotional day, I’m sure.

Unfortunate exchange, but also not that big of a deal.

I miss the times when texts were sent and phone calls were made, rather than playing stupid little arguments out in public, but here we are.

or not or what previous interaction theyve had. Saquon said Tiki been a hater and not to smile up in his face when they see each other.

I mean Saquon probably know more about tiki than i do....and i know tiki a hater lol.

but at the end of the day,, it aint that serious.

If tiki was joking, he's had plenty of time to set the record straight...i have no idea if he has.

A few of the teams that waited might end up getting a rock solid rb without paying day 1 2024 prices. The cowboys could clean up for instance. Vegas needs to holler at Mixon ASAP. Ravens too (I’m guessing they aren’t signing Dobbins).

smart move from Berry. IMO, Jameis is younger with a similar playstyle, but will be less of a distraction. Most importantly, IF he has to play, he is an actual NFL QB (unlike PJ Walker who stole 2 critical games as a starter).

His last actions as a Saint possibly the funniest in the league.

The front office's poke in the eyes of the liberal sector of the Noose Crew for me personally is enough for me to party.

I actually wish the Eagles would have got him. Mariota went to the Commanders. Tanner McKee actually needing to play if something went down with Jalen would be ass.

lots of big names getting paid, and it's exciting, but it's not where most winners really build their team.

That being said, Seahawks gonna have to add some dudes soon because they've had a lot of people walk out the door. Most of the losses didn't really bother me (outside of Jordyn Brooks), but that's also very dependent on who the replacements are.

Chicago doesn't have much leverage and there's obviously not much demand by other teams to use a draft pick to secure him for next season

not surprised, considering he hasnt played since B.C. (before Covid, not Christ)

myriad of leg and ankle injuries...hes about to be 32, which is kinda long in the tooth for NFL WRs

might be time to hang em up

still a solid career and a solid representation of *THE* WR U in the NFL

after a few days to process.

I wish Saquon could’ve been paid and played his whole career in NY, and it will absolutely suck to see him in Philly. I think the mistake was made last year - paying Jones. But we’ll see.

Given the situation now, bolstering the OL and pass rush with their money makes the most sense. Saquon would’ve continued to have a shitty situation….fixing the line and bringing in a decent back like Singletary might be the better approach.

Defense could be special. Burns and Thibs on the edge, with Dexter in the middle, and Okereke at LB? Front 7 will be TOUGH.

He's got one more year on his deal. The Chargers were up against it on their cap. I get that well enough.

But I don't see how there weren't more teams ready to unass a 4th round pick if they had the money. Maybe that's it...they don't have the money!? Maybe. Seems like the Bears are finna outfit the hell out of their offense for whoever they put at QB next year. A lot of QBs are envious rn.

In response to Reply # 166

if they want to guarantee themselves someone in the Caleb/Jayden/Drake/JJ group theyre gonna have to move up 10 spots or more and that could be costly. im not a Bo Nix guy but if i were a steeler fan id be happy with Penix.

if theres a QB run and Nix is gone by 12 or something they might even have to trade up for him, and i think their intentions might be a little too transparent to have any trade leverage.

lmao

Justin Fields is a good QB. Anyone with two brain cells and two working eyes (this eliminates you) could see he had ZERO help last year in that miserable franchise.

edit, Marvin Harrison JR is the best player in this draft. and most NFL ready. just like the long line of WRs from TOSU before him.

(go ahead and have the last word in this convo you creepy obsessed dickhead. try not to make it personal and stick to sports. Youre too old to be acting juvenile in 2024)

If it were a competition, that is.

Also the idea of either qb running an Arthur Smith offense is going to be an entertaining watch

The Texans will also get a 2024 6th and a 2025 5th. I hate Jerry and Stephen Jones.

when you got a dope young qb on a rookie deal, you better go after it. way harder once you gotta pay them 30-40 million per year.

Exactly. And stuff is headed toward dudes REGULARLY getting 50 million per year on new deals. I'm old enough to remember people acting up about Peyton Manning getting 5 years for 100. We recently saw Daniel Dimes get 4 for 160. I know Russ wasn't cooking AND he ate a lot of the 'this QB sux' scenery but Daniel Jones getting that deal was pure tomfoolery. Him getting hurt might've saved his career.

how about spending some real money on offense if you want to have a legit offense?

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
