"Caitlin Clark…"

the best women’s college basketball by far. They say she makes about $1mil in NIL money in college and will take HUGE pay cut in the WNBA where I think the highest paid players make like $200K…

She may need to use some of that money to hire security after that crazy OSU fan rushed the court and knocked her down:

https://youtu.be/mVd8SZgRRQI?si=16hyqZgC47QFelLh

Some said she was acting a bit I do have concern when fans rush the court/field in all college sports…

Fans just need to wait 45 seconds, then storm the court. But you have to give the opposing players a chance to get out of there. If Clark had been hurt, court storming would be gone *tomorrow* lol.

But someone someday *will* be seriously hurt during a court storming-- and as much as I loved the times I got to storm the court when I was in school, I would've also loved doing it 30-45 seconds after the game ends just as much.

More Christmas movies coming in 2025...

..we just watched Milwaukee toss 12M into the fireplace (allegedly because of the lack of defense) to bring in a coach that has never been known for defensive prowess and hasn't been able to get a team over the hump in almost 20 yrs.

These fools have been lying about profits/revenue for YEARS.

The money is there, they just refuse to part with it.

A legit united NBA/WNBA players strike would work, but the elite players (ie: PAID) of the NBA don't care/have the balls to stand united with the rest of the league.

Would the NBA players union be down with splitting their money with the women when the women don’t had a fraction of the ticket/jersey sales/marketing money etc?

Should they?

It’s easy to be pious and sit back and say “women deserve equal pay” but when the numbers don’t support it particularly in a sport like basketball it just doesn’t make good business sense

..You can't continue wasteful practices (like paying 3 head coaches) while balking at proven strategies (like chartering private flights).

I don't have unreasonable expectations, but at least make it make sense.

But how are we gonna have a post about her and not mention that Iowa got knocked off in OT by The Ohio State university?

Cotie McMahon, a soph at OSU, is the absolute real deal. Keep an eye out for her.

because she doesn’t k ow how to lose with grace.

First time wasn’t her fault but losing to LSU made half the nation hate Black women simply because Clark lost

now a team upsets Iowa and once again its about Clark.

I like her game but fuck her and those white women tears.

I hope they get upset nice and early in the tourney so we don’t have another year of bashing Black excellence.

look at this shit man and stop it, she got you doing her dirty work.

He said every game they’ve lost on the road the last 3 season resulted in the court being stormed and no precautions in the place when it’s obviously about to happen . It’s reckless and Will eventually end badly. CC 100% saw an opportunity to not have answer questions about losing in OT and it worked to perfection. Shits still too dangerous to continue to happen

shit was good for the game when Clark was doing it..

but as soon as she lost and it was done to her its “classless and disgusting”

now storming the court its something we have to look into because CC saw a fan and decided to flop.

But just in case I'll say it again, Matt Painter does not coach womens basketball. ANd has had an issue with storming the court for 3 seasons now. That is roughly 1,000 days give or take before CC took a dive.

But please respond again with this is only being cried about because a poor damsel in distress tripped.

is because of Clark’s incident.

I know there have been debates on this for years but this is a Clark thread about her almost being “injured”

which is bullshit.

She is fine and was never in danger, she just got her ass busted by a sophomore and didn’t want that to be the focus in the presser.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

CC and Angel Reece, and other future WNBA players will be (relatively) alright because they'll likely see more money from endorsements as a professional than in college. Plus, they'll have a salary from the W and other professional leagues. *edit* (that's not to say that player compensation and entitlements don't need to be addressed. But, journalists on X/Twitter who cover women's sports think the point about the difference in pay between NCAA and pro basketball is inaccurate.)

Also, while I don't think the fall was especially violent, sometimes, like on a playing field, the most devastating injuries happen during contact that wasn't particularly vicious. Apparently, CC 'just' had the wind knocked out of her.

On an aside, the conspiracy theorizing you all are doing about CC wanting to avoid negative press when, to the best of my knowledge, she has never ducked a question is 'interesting.'

I have no clue, just wondering

I would imagine star players make more in college because the passion is higher in college sports. Hopefully these 2 bring a lot more fans from college to the WNBA.

as far as CC not shying away from L’s. I guess… but that sure seemed like a nice way to spin the convo after an L.

i get that she makes more now in deals when she's in college, but why would those sponsorships deals stop when she goes pro? wouldn't they increase if anything? her WNBA money would just be extra money.

the whole point of NIL is that they don't get paid from the school but from their own Name, Image and Likeness. she's not getting paid because she plays for Iowa. she's getting paid because she's a star who happens to play for Iowa right now. there's no reason to believe that her deals would go away just because she leaves college. pretty sure there's nothing in the deal that requires her to be a college player.

my point was if there's more eyes on women's college hoops, then it makes sense that she could lose money going pro where there are less eyes.

usually, the more attention you can bring to a company (aka eyes), the more money you will be paid. so, if more people watch college hoops, i could see the argument that she might make more while in college, and lose money when she has to go to the WNBA.

again, i don't know which does better by the numbers.

No one was talking about Iowa womens basketball before her. She took them to only their 2nd Final Four in school history. No reason to believe that fans won't follow her wherever she goes.

I have no idea about women's college basketball TV ratings, but the NCAA championship game last year was the most watched ever for a women's game. Again though, that's all due to Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.

there's no official salary in college and I think people are considering NIL to be that.

so, she should actually make more money overall in the pros IF those endorsements continue and she could probably get a few more, in addition to her league money.

Y'all buy those labels, I was born supreme

the whole point of NIL is that the schools can't pay players.
she's not being paid to promote the school. the deals she's getting are just for her to promote the product, not her school. i can see maybe the school getting something if she wears her Iowa jersey in the ad, but her Gatorade ad for instance doesn't feature the Iowa jersey or logo at all. she's already got a Nike deal.

I would have thought she would have more commercials but maybe you have to wait until the season is officially over?

Didn’t I see Caleb in commercials during the season? Can’t remember.

I do see Candice in commercials with Steph but was she getting commercials right after college?

Will be interesting seeing it CC can elevate the WNBA. I think having more women compete during a new 3pt contest could be fun and help the sport or let them have a team during the skills competition.

WNBA needs something bad because the womens college game is actually a big deal now.

her Gatorade commercial is independent of her school, and her Iowa jersey is trademarked IP that would require Gatorade to license it from Iowa. but thats a really unique case because of her Q rating. any white girl dribbling a basketball on TV is obviously Caitlin Clark bc nobody gives a shit about any other white girls that play basketball.

but NIL collective money comes from wealthy superfan boosters. if she had transferred from Iowa, that money would have gone away and be replaced by money from wealthy superfans at her new school. its all conditional on being at that specific university.

she might be someone who was making more from national endorsements than her NIL collective, but I doubt it. the publicity she brought Iowa would have been worth millions to their boosters.

In men's basketball, she'd be second all-time in 3-point attempts, lol.

I'd be interested in a comparison between her and a lot of the leaders in 3-point attempts men's and women's to see how many were off the catch and how many were off the bounce. I can't recall the last player I saw take so many off the bounce.

>Caitlin Clark is amazing, but Simone literally has gymnastic
>moves named after her.

the every 4 years crowd has no idea about that.

also why Olympic sports arent set up for "fame" longevity. people move on to the next thing as soon as its over, and roster turnover means a lot of people arent competing more than twice, if even twice.

to be clear tho, im not arguing in support of that fat fuck. his very premise is bullshit bc theres no way she gives a shit about Clark's fame beyond being happy seeing another female athlete win.

you are talking like Biles won a few gold medals in one olympic and went back to college.

Everyone has their moment, right now Caitlyn has hers but lets not act like Simone wasn’t known around the world during the height of her fame.

I believe her husband tried to downplay her fame and the internets was like “nigga please, we know HER, who the fuck are YOU??”

CC has the ability to prolong her moment every game

Olympic athletes' fame waxes and wanes, and ppl dont watch the WCs. certainly no one knows that she has manoeuvers named after her. also, have to acknowledge that part of Phelps' fame is actually infamy because of his various "scandals", which Biles has steered clear of.

to suggest Biles wants fame like Caitlyn is laughable.

Everyone gets their 15 minutes. Simone was popular for 8 years.

17 million watched the College final

36 Mill watched the gymnastics competition in 2012.. and how many more watched around the world?

There is no comparison.

i actually made it a point to actively and overtly disavow that idea in my very first post

>Everyone gets their 15 minutes. Simone was popular for 8
>years.

yes she was. and everyone is about to see her again for the first time in 3 years, and the last time for 4 years.

Caitlin Clark is going to play basketball on major networks 50 times this summer.

idk why youre taking this personally. my whole point is centered around the idea that while Biles sits on the shelf until the next time gymnastics is on television, Clark is going to be on TV *constantly*.

>17 million watched the College final
>36 Mill watched the gymnastics competition in 2012.. and how

Unorthodox looking shot, not a go to scorer but will get you double figures, great rebounder, defender, winner, and knows how to get under opponents skin.

Her greatest assets are her motor and her fight on the glass. She's shooting a godawful percentage because it's been harder for her to finish against the physicality of the higher level... but she's still productive because she's just a fucking fighter and she never stops. So many of her points will come off putbacks and just working harder than the person assigned to block her out.

But yeah, her superfans are ignorant.

You can make an argument that she could fit at the bottom of the team USA roster, but she wouldn’t be in the mix so why does it really matter? I say give the 42 year old her last ride, rather than jumping the gun with the rookie. She hasn’t earned that yet. In due time.

And of course the media completely amped it for clicks with all their “Clark got snubbed!” headlines.

I can’t help but feel like some of the players hate her because of her fans and the media….which is dumb and counterproductive. Ain’t her fault. She’s just hooping. Enjoy the increased eyeballs on the game, learn how to talk to the media effectively without coming off like some dumbass haters, and go beat her on the court.

the weirdo stans far outweigh the supposed haters. the idea that teams and players are supposed to bow down to her and thank her for all she's done is beyond wild. the players are doing exactly what they're supposed to do against her. every young hyped rookie in any sport is going to get extra attention from the opposition. it's not hate in any way.

there are probably people who hate hearing about her everyday as if the rest of the league never existed before she got there but that does not constitute hating on Caitlin. somewhere in there are legit Fever/Caitlin fans, but the noise is mostly coming from the weirdos.

Particularly in the context of her not being selected to the Olympic team - the takes are toxic af.

It's becoming yet another Americano culture war frenzy hot topic that's bringing out the worst of all those who take stubborn "sides" to try and score some larger point. Even Nikki Haley is out here basically demanding an investigation into why she was left off the team lol:

https://x.com/NikkiHaley/status/1799866622947033259

It's sad because women's basketball is an exciting place - and the bickering around the game and CC is stunting its growth. But among the WNBA brass there also seems to be tension. Instead of rallying as a league and harnessing the attention/excitement around the game, there seems to be a lot of petty rivalry and animosity being thrown around. Kinda feels like there's a cool kids table and not everyone can sit at the table.

But CC reminds me a lot of Steph in terms of impact/stature. Curry caught some shade and was getting bullied a bit as well when he started to attract all the attention and inspire new fans/kids into the game - and it only made him better and forced him to get stronger physically to endure and have the outstanding career he's had. Both Steph and CC aren't all that remarkable physically in comparison to the athletes they play against. They aren't the biggest, tallest, strongest or fastest - but are both able to pull of magic tricks consistently with their shooting and skill-set. Clark will be challenged to adapt on the fly like Steph was able to and I think the fact that they're basically playing her like it's game 7 defense every game will only make her a better player with tougher skin.

It's prob better for her that she's not on the Olympic team. She's not one of the best 10-12 players in the game (at least not yet) - but then again - neither is Taurasi - so it's not as if the selection was purely on who the best players are. She probably wouldn't get much playing time and everyone would be saying she didn't deserve to be on the team etc. etc..

I just don't get why the WNBA players can't rock with each other more. The NBA is truly a fraternity in terms of the camaraderie players have, even bitter on the court rivals usually end up eventually rocking with each other (see: KG/Lebron, KD/Russ etc..) in the long run. Doesn't seem to be that same sorority feel of camaraderie in the WNBA.

But, I think older generations are usually going to shit on the new jacks, especially if the older generations had to endure their competition without the glamour and attention the new players get.

We saw it with Bird/Magic/Isiah and Jordan. While Kobe befriended Jordan, a lot of their relationship-building was done after MJ retired. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they weren't very friendly as they played. LeBron seems to be pretty cool with the newer players, but players getting along while they play is something that's only really happened in this generation. And there's a noticeable amount of fans clowning the players for exchanging jerseys after games or talking and catching up before games.

*Should* Taurasi and Stewie and the others embrace Caitlin? Ideally, yeah. But, elite athletes are competitors and prideful and have outsized egos about their legacy and these women aren't the first athletes to freeze someone out they feel is taking their shine.

But, I think their coldness is kind of for the same reasons Jordan doesn't embrace LeBron.

The reason Jordan doesn't speak as highly of LeBron as he does Kobe is because LeBron actually is his rival in terms of legacy. Kobe has a nice career, but I don't think anyone really being rational thinks Kobe was nearly as good as Jordan. Whereas LeBron vs Jordan is more of a legitimate argument to people.

The veterans' judgement is actually confirmation that they see potential in Clark. I think if Clark becomes the player her college career projects she can, players will come around because Caitlin legitimately earned their respect as a competitor and athlete, not a marketing phenomenon.

that seems out of line. Obviously the MAGAs are absurd, but I also think there's a concerted effort amongst the WNBA elite to try and make CC less successful than she'd otherwise be if they embraced her.

It's kinda like if the NBA bullied up on Wemby and they all had a silent agreement to triple team him, bully him, and make sure he doesn't do as well as he'd otherwise do because they resented the attention he's getting. Wemby hasn't proven anything yet either, but he's beloved by the NBA (just listen to the way the players talk about him) and celebrated as a guy who can further elevate the game.

Yes of course you have to respect the OGs in the WNBA who paved the way for CC to have this platform and opportunity - but isn't that the goal and something that should be seen as a positive? I don't understand the extra sauce to the resentment. The game has developed and built so that future stars can take it to the next level -- why shit on that by trying to go out of your way to thwart a potential superstar from shining and taking the league to the next level?

Caitlin brings the press and maybe a few long threes but she is liability on defense.

When Curry was a rookie he wasn’t crowned before his first NBA game by the fans. They have similar styles as rookies but people wondered if Curry could survive due to his frame.

I think there is just a shit load of pride from WNBA players and they aren’t going to give CC the lane or open looks to grow the game with a bunch of shitty bandwagon fans who are disrespectful to the WNBA culture.

But she's not one of the top 10-12 players in the WNBA at this stage of her career. It's a legacy selection - but a lot of analysts stay stubborn on that "this is purely about the best players who can win the gold" argument - which you can't make credibly by ignoring the fact that Taurasi isn't top of the class anymore. I think you can make the case that CC is actually playing better than Taurasi this year, despite some rough early moments.

Talking about how the vets took her under their wing when she was 22, meanwhile she’s out here making veiled dick jokes on TV and passive aggressively hating on Clark.

Used to be a great player, still pretty good, longtime legend - give her one more run, sure. I’m good with lifetime achievement awards for an end of the bench spot. But she’s a clown, IMO.

Good post. I agree with you, except for this part.

>I just don't get why the WNBA players can't rock with each
>other more. The NBA is truly a fraternity in terms of the
>camaraderie players have, even bitter on the court rivals
>usually end up eventually rocking with each other (see:
>KG/Lebron, KD/Russ etc..) in the long run. Doesn't seem to be
>that same sorority feel of camaraderie in the WNBA.
>-->

For a long time, the WNBA has been a tight knit group, even across teams. A lot of players know each other from playing in other countries or leagues. I also think that trying to get recognition for the league made them feel like comrades as much as opponents. For the most part, they liked & supported each other.

I totally get it. Women were sticking together in order to make moves.

At the same time, that led to a lack of fire. It had been a while since there were any legit rivalries. I often said that they needed a little bad blood to get things going. Another rivalry like Lisa Leslie vs Lauren Jackson would be great. A team rivalry (like 80s Lakers vs Celtics) would be even better.

The Caitlin Clark thing isn't exactly what I envisioned. There are too many people running their mouths when they didn't give a damn about the WNBA a few months ago. To her credit, Caitlin is willing to take her lumps and show & prove that she belongs.

But I like the fact that the competitive nature of the league seems to be ramping up.

Clark did not participate in any of lead-up camps. That probably matters as much as ANYTHING.

She's also gonna be tired AF by the time it rolls around and probably needs the rest (she said she did but i bet in her heart of hearts she'd rather be there).

Lastly, if Arike isn't on the team, CC can't be.

NOW, ALL THAT SAID (lol), if they wanted to maximize the "growth of the game?" She shoulda been on the team.

The Fever were playing a crazy schedule to start the season and before she blinks CC would've been shipped off to the Olympics with absurd controversy and media buzz around her. She's probably already exhausted physically and emotionally and that would only compound the madness. Missing the Olympics gives her time to recharge and work on her game. After college she was immediately thrown to the wolves on a horrible team. My bet is that in 4 years she'll have earned her stripes and the Olympic selection will be more meaningful for both her and the game.

if i'm being honest, it looks like it's not fun to be caitlin clark right now, and she doesn't look like she's having a good time.

Dijonnai isn't wrong at all.

At the same time, I'm not sure I want the 22 year old white girl from Iowa stepping up to make big social commentary. I don't know enough about CC to say either way. Yes, she has a huge platform. But just because she has this platform doesn't mean we should be pushing her to make comments. For all I know, she could be a Trump supporter. Or she could just not really understand the intricacies of the things that Dijonnai pointed out.

Some people aren't built for it. I wouldn't bet my money that the 20-something white girl from Iowa is that chick.

>The WNBA's number one pick was asked if she's bothered by

Here's what she said:

"It's not something I can control, so I don't put too much thought and time into thinking about things like that. And to be honest, I don't see a lot of it. Like I've said, basketball's my job,"

"Everything on the outside, I can't control that, so I'm not gonna spend time thinking about that. People can talk about what they want to talk about, create conversations about whatever it is. But I think for myself, I'm just here to play basketball."

When asked to clarify, she said:

"people should not be using my name" to push agendas, adding that it was "not acceptable."

I don't see that as her being ok with people using her name to spout racist agendas. I think it was a bit disingenuous of her to say that "she doesn't see a lot of it" in terms of her name being used to push social agendas. But then again, she has never gotten into or commented on the social media drama so she's probably being true in saying she's not focused on what she can't control.

But I think people who dislike her for whatever reason are reaching to try and make her into some kind of hillbilly villain from Iowa. Re: DiJonai's quote: do people really want her wading into all of this culture war frenzy? Seems like whatever she said would be spun.

outside of some NBA playoffs, I haven't watched live sports in forever and even fewer highlights. The sycophantry is loud and obnoxious, from the small bits I've heard I'd have imagined she was running away with it from a numbers perspective but pretty close, relative to their respective positions.

am i missing something here?

I think Reese is the better rookie. Her hustle and passion for rebounding isn't something you can teach. She doesn't rebound her own misses like people say. She holds the WNBA record for double-doubles and right now is leading the league in rebounds. if she holds her current number, she would set the WNBA record for rebounds per game in a season.

CC leads the league in TO's too, which they rarely mention, but she's also had a triple double and is imho just behind Reese for the award right now, but I've seen all of Reese's game and only 1/3 of Clark's games. Clark is a really good passer.

They are equally important to the league though. Young girls in general, but esp young Black girls, are FLOCKING to Reese.

lol.

that's not me saying she should, btw.

also, Reese DEFINITELY rebounds her own misses (she leads the league in that by a huge margin, actually), but that doesn't mean that's ALL she does (which is the poor argument her haters try to make). she's just good at rebounding, period.

that said, her rebounding stats are a bit padded by her poor shooting (grabbing easier offensive rebounds that were her own misses). if her FG% goes up noticeably, her rebounds and rebounding percentages will go down (she'd still lead the league in OREB even without rebounding her own misses btw).

on the flip side, there's a lot of talk, as you mentioned, about Clark's TOs. there are A LOT of TOs that get put on her jacket where her teammates are fumbling the bag. you can go online and find video compilations of them. i dunno if her teammates never played with anyone who can pass before or what. now, that doesn't mean she makes no bad TOs cuz she definitely does, but i wonder what those stats would look w/out all the ones her teammates have fumbled.

i don't have a dog in the fight. i don't care who wins WNBA ROY. both are having great rookie seasons and getting better as the games have added up. it's a good look for the league. if you ask me i'd say they are probably both deserving (do they do co-ROYs?) and it may come down to which team wins more, but i think it's just gonna come down to Clark being ROY a better story for the league which isn't fair, but you know how these things go.

It's just the sort of thing Clark-for-ROY advocates ignore, the same way Reese-for-ROY advocates ignore her shooting %s for a big.

>i dunno if her
>teammates never played with anyone who can pass before or
>what.

Without looking, I think she averaged just below 5 TOs per game at Iowa too. She just plays loose to try to make home run plays, and it bites her at times. She's not unlike Trae Young in that respect, honestly.

>now, that doesn't mean she makes no bad TOs cuz she
>definitely does, but i wonder what those stats would look

Someone made a thread of exactly this! Long story short: she'd still lead the league in turnovers, but it wouldn't be as record-settingly bad a number. https://x.com/cc22report/status/1810731140392661014

I honestly don't even know if Clark winning ROY is a better story for the league at this point. If your headline is "Angel Reese beats Caitlin Clark for Rookie of the Year," that's a *really* click-friendly headline, lol. Would fire up people on every side of the debate. Then again, if you flip it, same deal.

I also don't know that team wins should necessarily even be the primary determiner in a ROY race. For MVP, absolutely, but it isn't really a primary consideration in the NBA. It's usually statistical accomplishment. In which case, I mean... look, Clark is stuffing the stats, but if Reese breaks the single season rebounding record as a rookie? I don't think you can wave your hand at that when Clark's stats definitely benefit from the Ja Morant-level usage they've been giving her this year as she adjusts to the higher level of competition.

I'd give it to Reese right now-- and I think it'd take a real display from Clark down the stretch to sway me. I know I've compared Reese to Joakim Noah-- and I kind of still feel that way, tbh-- but it is hard as shit to put up those types of rebounding numbers as a rookie, especially given it's not like she's a freak in terms of size. She's just working really fucking hard. And that should probably be rewarded unless Clark really ups her efficiency in these last dozen or so games.

And honestly? It might benefit Clark if she loses. She's been anointed-- make her feel like she's been overlooked for a change. Throw some extra logs on the fire for her this offseason. Give her some "pissed off" energy.

In response to Reply # 0
Sat Jul-13-24 04:50 PM by Vex_id

Dropped 20 pts and 13 dimes last night - and had like 7/8 assists in the first quarter alone with some extraordinary looks.

Everyone expected her to be able to score when she came into the league, but very few - if any - expected her to play-make and exhibit this type of court vision. She's an assist or two away from leading the league in assists - but it's not just the fact that she's top of the league in dimes; it's the way she's creating plays and setting up teammates that's remarkable.

Yes she needs to quell the excess turnovers, but she's a big risk-taker QB'ing the offense and that's going to lead to TOs. But you can tell the entire team trusts her and encourages her to push the envelope because they know what kind of ability she has. She's also rebounding and defending at a high-level in what looks like the rapid development of an elite two-way player.

The ROTY race is fascinating and could go either way - but CC is both scoring and passing at the top of the class of the entire league already, and she's clearly making an impact in the standings. Fever are markedly better this year than they were last year and may even prove to be a tough out in the playoffs.

I thought she was reckless early on because I would see the factoids that said she had the most turnovers for a rookie. And then I saw an actual game film and her teammates had the worst hands imaginable.

Caitlin sometimes tries to paint too fine of a line with her decisions, but she displays a higher degree of awareness and BB-IQ than her counting stats suggest.

That's not say that Angel Reese isn't having a phenomenal rookie year - she most certainly is. In any other year she'd be the top of the class, but CC is just different. I'd actually argue she's exceeding the crazy high expectations that were set out for her - which seemed to be an impossible standard. Somehow, she's matching that and then some.

She's not only the rookie of the year, but is quickly developing into one of the top players in the game, *already*. When you consider the media frenzy flanking her at every turn, and the hyper polarization surrounding her to where people either love her or hate her, she's also displayed next level resilience to play at this level so early in her career.

I"m personally a fan of both CC and Angel. It's great to see them budding into elite stars -- but CC got the juice right now.

I remember when the season began there was so much talk about how Caitlin was going to struggle against "grown women" and how she was overhyped. Sheryl Swoopes was even out here just flat out embarrassing herself with some of the loudest & wrongest takes in recent memory - for what? I still don't get going out of your way to hate on this woman. Imagine if the NBA elite had it out for Wemby and hated on him at every turn - even refusing to acknowledge that he actually was the rookie of the year lol.

Even the espn WNBA analysts have been so incredibly salty and now are basically dead silent about CC's ascent. Shit is sad and bordering on the lines of flat out pathetic.

Meanwhile all CC has done is ball out, having arguably the greatest rookie season in WNBA history. She's arguably already a top 5 player in the league, inarguably top 10, and is paving the way for future women to make bank and get shine. Again, what's to hate?

But the fact that it’s ongoing like this in spite of her getting better throughout the season.

To my knowledge, CC doesn’t even seem to respond to it any way either which makes the salty squad look worse.

For a player who came into the league touted as a dynamic scorer, it's possibly the most impressive aspect of her game to be this elite at play-making and quarterbacking the team so early in her career.

I bet none of these folks claiming she did it on purpose could poke an eye out if someone was standing still let alone do it when someone is running and jump stops to pass

In response to Reply # 181

in the WNBA this past season were committed against Clark is more than enough evidence to show that these cheap shots are intentional. Some of it is physical, hard fouls - for sure - but there have been multiple instances of clear-cut bad faith cheap shots.

The level of petty hate is next level.

So the reasonable conclusion is that the Sky are being extra with the flagrants, not the league.

If it were 19.6% and you said “nearly 20%”, that would make sense.

“Nearly 20%” when it’s 17% is an intentional exaggeration and makes it clear you’re just another white dude trying hard to inflate the severity and significance of the issue.

Also, Rebecca Lobo already put this into recent historical context:

https://x.com/rebeccalobo/status/1830282245791433027?s=46&t=hpPS6Qu-XdORFd6YU32Etw

“ The below % is accurate, but the raw numbers are also important. This season Clark has been flagrantly fouled 5 times (32 games). In 2023 Satou Sabally was flagrantly fouled 4 times (38 gms ). In ‘22 Aerial Powers was flagrantly fouled 5 times (35 gms). ”

Yes, it’s still higher than the other two. But between this and the fact that even the NBA has a history of high profile rookies getting roughed up (Blake, Vince are good examples off top) make this a minor story at best.

She’s gotten rough treatment, yeah I think it’s intentional, and while it’s extra, it’s not really out of line with what we’ve seen in the past. It’s nothing new and she’s balled the fuck out through it all.

But even then, 80% of the flagrants are coming from the same team, the Sky. So it’s hardly a league wide trend.

But intentionally overstating the situation makes it clear that you’re just mad that they’re going at the White Queen.

This is not a leaguewide trend.

It’s a Chicago Sky trend.

So to that, sure.

But the league doesn’t need a directive to be nicer to CC.
