"OKPW: EOY 23 - Tuesday night war!?"

Okay okay, it’s not a war. But AEW and NXT are loaded up for tonight and it should be fun.

Besides that:

- Triple Haitch looks to be running creative again.
- NXT is worth peeking in on at minimum. You can see overtly good stuff again on there too! Aka HBK is cookin.
- Collision has been good even if Punk’s on-screen show-based heat IS missed.
- Edge and Christian is a good azz time.
- Broken Toni Storm is too. I hope she goes far with it.
- Give me all of the Jay White they have. MJF/White is gonna be a party.
- Vince is somehow maybe out again? Maybe health. Maybe banished. Who knows!
- Jey Uso is on Raw and is over like rover.
- Reigns is on vacay but back soon.
- Cody is weaseling his way back to Roman. I’m interested even if my adrenaline is not in my soul currently.
- Swerve looks like a no jokes star and Nana actin a fool has made his song over too!

Zoomed out, both companies appear to be doing a lot of things that make sense. Taking that for granted is to ignore how shaky main roster WWE has been several times over the last decade. Aka it’s a good time to be watching this stuff.

And eyes are on Chicago for Survivor Series to see if WWE and Phil Can finally reunite!

Rasslin in general is fine woman central nowadays. I come away from basically every show blessed in various ways. You ain't lying tho..NXT is basically all fine all the time now. And whoever is training them isn't playing around either. AKA someone somewhere is trying to make them good at it for real and not 'good for a girl'. I appreciate that quite a bit.

Looking back, that pivot to trying to find young hoss athletes to teach the biz is working out really well so far. And on the dude size, Rex/Bron and Melo are coming along really well.

I know there was a gap for a couple of years in NXT, but tbf that’ll happen when Asuka, Bayley, Sasha, Becky, Baszler, IYO and Kairi all peace out.

I think so. I think she's not around as much as she was but she's still the main thing in the background making sure these (fine ass) women know how to rassle.

I'm excited to see what they do with Jade. I have to believe she's easily athletic enough to do whatever, so if she can keep her learning rolling and lose some of that green she has, its gonna be a party.

My 2-screen setup served me well. I was pausing and fast forwarding my azz off last night. It took me about 2.5 hours to 'watch' both shows with that setup and I still felt like I saw most everything that needed to be seen. I had a blast. I was also flat out tired afterwards! Rasslin overload!

They NEED to do something like this about quarterly. AKA they need to jackass their way into an 'accidental' war night and then do good stuff with whatever eyeballs they get on the product(s).

WWE took advantage of their killer rolodex and us it to try to make a lot of their upcoming people look as UPCOMING as possible. AEW tried to make a show that they could follow-up with a 'hey, we didn't need to cheat cuz this every week. If you're not watching us on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you're missing out'. Both achieved a lot of good last night no matter what the numbas will say. I'm guessing WWE 'beat' AEW AND what they normally get for NXT on Tuesdays.

I was a little worried that the main roster people/Taker would overshadow the NXT roster, but they did a great job using them to give the new guys and gals some shine.

From what we've seen, the negativity farmers would eat crazy good from that. And TK would just go crazy and potentially blow up the whole thing.

I randomly think sometimes: what if WWE had the whole thing locked down again ala 2001 when WCW laid it down? How long would WWE be fun until it started to be unfun again? 3 or 4 years? Longer? Not even that long because so many of the AEW people would scatter to not WWE places? IDK.

It is NOT the same but its good. The way Phil gives basically everything STAKES is at least kinda sorta missing. Almost no one does that better in AEW or damn near anywhere outside of Tribal Chief and/or 'I appreciate every moment here because I know I'm getting too old for this shit' John Cena.

They've tried to 'replace' him with Danielson and Christian tho, and both of those guys are a damn good time. So its almost certainly worth going. And it probably won't exactly be a zoo up in the there if I'm to believe all of the crowing about low attendance at AEW shows.

And boaf MJF and Omega are gonna be there tmrw. The thought is that they'll have an altercation of some kind related to MJF being very close to outlasting Omega's 'number of days as champ' thing. That little deal has been fun and it might lead to a match and soon. Either way, its gonna be MJF doing something so it'll be good.

Unless I missed it when I went to the concession stand I didn't see MJF and Omega, but yeah I'm glad I went. I don't know how the crowd reaction looked on tv, but Jarrett/Kingston gave us a vintage 1982 Monday night at the Mid-South Coliseum Memphis rasslin' match in the and all the old heads there ate it up lol. Especially when Dave Brown made his way down to be the guest commentator for the match. Battle of the Belts was a standout too. I hate I missed Dynamite when they came to MS a few years ago, but if they make their way back to there Memphis or Southaven, I'm definitely going to be there.

Had seats even with the front edge of the big curved screen so we didn’t see everyone come through the curtain.

Some observations:

-while the entrance-break-segment-opponent entrance structure is weird, it IS good for bathroom breaks when you have kids with you.

- the people love them some LA Knight (or at least they love shouting YEAHHH even if he’s not on the show.

- but the people LOVE them some Jey. If people weren’t shouting YEAHHH or WOOOO when it was quiet they were shouting YEET

- the Miz’s face turn worked. There were people legit chanting for Miz in his match against Ivar.

- speaking of, him and Otis can MOOOOOVE. You don’t quite get on TV how agile those two big boys are.

-the Drew thing played pretty well live

- of everyone, Cody walks the character EVERY time he’s through the curtain. Dude jumped into the crowd to help get the cameras on a fan’s sign for the fan contest. He was CONSTANTLY working the crowd when he wasn’t involved in the action. That dude works hard even when he’s not working a hold.

- Dom’s heat is DEAFENING. Kudos to that kid for leaning into the skid there.

- Rhea’s promo went over REAL well with the crowd.

- but not quite as well as Becky’s

- they have to figure out how to make Xia’s kick look better (maybe the answer is putting her in with more accomplished workers because Indi … is a little ponderous out there still).

Nice!

Something about seeing rasslin only on TV/Youtube/Soashul Meediuh for too long dulls the enjoyment for me. But in-person, seeing just how big the big people are, are good-looking the hot ladies are, how athletic people are in general, and just how PHYSICAL rasslin can be is worth something for me.

At worst, it makes the notably not good rasslers look even more not good! IE: the ones who ridiculously miss on their strikes fall into this range for me. I remember a women's match in AEW when I went to a Dynamite back when they still had the other other shows (Dark?) that was notably not serious.

Those two had a four year run that was untouchable in Florida, but on the main they haven't really done a thing. That said, once the Ciampa/Kaiser match was underway, Johnny did really well on the outside firing the crowd up.

Yeah. I was always worried that Johnny was toast beyond NXT. At least I got to see them during the time when Ciampa was coming out with no music. The boos were completely out of this world. And he was soaking that shit all the way up. Pure goodness.

Same. I was just about to get up from the couch. I was thinking ‘oh well, they couldn’t figure it ouu’…then the music hit. It took me at least 5 seconds to believe it. I almost thought some heel was trolling. And then that SOB came through and the crowd let him have the love. He felt it and it was ON.

They’re going to print hella money if they can keep everyone healthy.

Women’s War Games was blah until the last 5-10 minutes.

Gunther vs. Miz and Rhea vs Zoey were serviceable, but were shades of the same match.

Santos basically squashed Lee.

Men’s War Games was the match of the night. Not sure what the point of the “Randy Orton isn’t here” here was beyond giving him a full entrance right before the match.

And the Punk entrance was what they were looking for. Of course, it only would have worked like THAT in Chicago. I hope it works out for everyone involved. Im sure McIntyre and Rollins being pissed were works. Sets up his RR opponent and probs lay his WM opponent. We’ll see how long this lasts.

He’s SO GOOD at playing to both the cheap seats and the cameras. It’s like having a great stage actor that kills it on TV too.

when he would come on the show. If he would've had the mic during the commercial free hour I think he would've dropped a better more "informative" promo than what he did. Plus I think Trips probably told him to hold off/save some stuff for when his programs with other wrestlers start. Honestly I can't wait for the promos between him and Seth.

He wasn't going to shit on Tony Khan, the Elite, or anyone else in AEW. I'm pretty sure both sides signed some of NDA. And besides, neither HHH or Nick Khan would want to give another fed any oxygen on their own show.

He wasn't going to work shit on the McMahon family or Hunter. Especially after all the lovey dovey stuff from Sunday night.

I guess how could have further pushed towards the Rollins feud and what's clearly going to be a WM co-headline match. But even that would look sort of goofy a little over an hour after Rollins did his whole "He's not worth my time!" promo.

It was his version of Cody's "Finish the Story" promo. That went over kind of blah too, until Cody backed it up in the ring.

If he's involved in it, the fun shall begin for real there.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea that Punk is headed into a(nother) self-righteous/Bret Hart Tribute heel run. If so, that promo last night was exactly what it needed to be: say all the right stuff but do it with just enough stank in his voice to make it clear that 'something else' is really going on.

I mean really: 'I'm back to take everything I ever wanted from this place' is some wild shit for a babyface to say.

And even the 'I get that some of these bitches are scared of me being better than them' could've been thought of as a shot to ALL OF WRESTLING. I loved that part and I heard him. And he's said it before and recently. That's as close to 'fuck the Bucks, Hangman, Kenny, Rollins, and all of you other alleged great mfers too!' as we were going to get the first night back.

I didn't need him to say 'Tony Khan is too big of a bitch to run his own company'. I know that already!

Yep. He got plenty of shit in. That’s for sure. And everyone he was talking to heard the fuck out of him.

And again, this Bret Hart Tribute shit is gonna go crazy all over again. And WWE is gonna help him do it.

In response to Reply # 59

>Thanks Bill.

Ugg...I get big sad when I think of how ignant 2004-ish WWE with a ready to roll Bret Hart would've been. The Shawn matches alone would've been a meme factory: dudes crying in the crowd, rasslers fanboying their azzes off, the inspirational work that could've come together, all of that shit. Then I think about Benoit. And Angle. And Eddie. And Cena. And even Punk, Jericho, Batista, whoever. Parties. Big ole parties.

But Bret couldn't help himself. He wrestled balls out even when he needed to tuck them shits in to make sure Goldy didn't fuck him over. But oops. Bill got him good at least 2x. And Bret PROBABLY didn't take great care of himself after the injuries (late 90s/early 2000s main event dudes in general were CRAZY..Shane Douglas for example, Austin for another one, Shawn too since we're here). And could imagine how not with it WCW's medical people were? I could and its bad.

AEW's Punk run 'taught me' several things. One of the good ones: CM PUNK FUCKING LOVES BRET HART. He litters damn near everything he does with Bret Hartery: mic work, rasslin, hell...even his backstage shit could be looked at like some shit Bret would tell him to do.

A bad thing it taught me is that AEW doesn't have their shit together backstage well enough. Punk was just a big enough star AND a big enough jackass AND 'old skewl' enough to fight dirty right back with whoever was leaking/telling the sheets bad shit. Even if it wasn't the Bucks directly, it is unreasonable to expect that they weren't like 'hey yawl...this guy is good for our shit. His whole thing is don't fuck with him in a backstage-y way. So let's not. Quit tweeting silly shit. Quit leaking obviously slanted stories. Don't try to slide no worked shoot shit in on the air. We all like Colt but fuck it! Let it go! Just fucking cool it.'.

For some reason, I don't buy that Kenny had a big hand in any of that bullshit. I could be wild wrong and I damn well don't know. But hey. Maybe I just like Kenny better as a rassler (and I don't exactly hate the Bucks either).

But REALLY? I hope I live long enough to get anything resembling the real CODY AEW story. I'm guessing some fucking up went on there that would probably blow our minds for real. The Punk thing? The truth isn't even all that compelling to me at this point (that dark side of the ring will HIT if we ever get it but its gonna be 2 false versions of the story if we ever get it). And nobody is coming out of it smelling like Cool Water so whatever.

Which they first attributed to Chief Jay Strongbow.

I think it's a stretch to look at that line as a subliminal dis. Apparently people are him not doing a victory lap when they want off the air was a shot at the Bucks, but that also seems like an odd interpretation of it too.

who?

Wardlow basically has to be in on it or what are we even doing.

It seems like Cole is in, right? I'm not so sure but it seems like that's a good enough way to go. Do the Undisputed Era crew + Britt + Wardlow and call it a day for now.

The other theory is that its the pillars people and Wardlow. So Wardlow, Sammy G, Jack Perry, and then its a matter of if Darby is in on it too or not.

There's a guy on Twitter saying its Cardblade. Its a good time cuz he pops up everywhere with it with his 'proof' and he's committed to the bit.

Most recently, there's people saying its the Pinnacle. So Wardlow, Spears, and FTR. I don't know how I feel on that but it would work well enough I guess.

Having it be Britt with Strong and return O'Reily and possibly Fish makes sense from a story perspective. She hasn't been around for a while and she's jealous of MJF/protective of Cole.

But in general, I feel like Cole is likely to be in on it.

I don't know if Wardlow is involved. Apparently the guys in the masks are "played" by the people who they plan it to be, and none of them is as big as Wardlow.

A returning Jack Perry makes some sense, though I think they might be plugging him into the Copeland/Christian feud. Especially now that the conflicted Luchasaurus/Killswitch is part of the angle.

At one point I thought it would be Max Caster with the Acclaimed. They certainly haven't been around since they got "ambushed." Maybe they play it as they hired someone else to beat them up, but have been doing everything else.

Someone floated the idea that it's Cole and MJF working together, and next week they're going to fuck over Samoa Joe. Don't know if that can work.

MJF going through all of these lengths while actually being a heel trying to keep his title isn't exactly crazy. But I think people will lose their minds over it (in a bad way).

The toughest thing with these mystery situations is it is almost never going to be the best fantasy option. IE: people were starting to talk themselves into Punk being the devil with the Bucks and whoever else helping. This of course would've been a party and a half because the details wouldn't matter more than PUNK IS NOT FIRED AND HE IS WORKING WITH THE BUCKS or whatever. But oops...Survivor Series in Chicago happened.

So now? Whoever it is? They're gonna get internetted to death. AKA people are going to look for holes. IE: proof that the masked people changed at some point. IE2: something about the devils not being big enough stars to payoff the story. IE3: If Perry is the lead of this group, the hate is gonna be XPac+. Maybe even Big Show/Kane (Best for Business Era) level. All of that stuff.

He’s proof that if you raise enough hell you may just get your wish. His methods were often wrong but the final outcome is going to be right, and that’s just wild.

That both he and Cody are likely to main event Mania

And just in response to his promo…this son of a bitch is over like rover bro. I love that the juice head podcast wrestling dinosaurs still don’t get why he’s so popular

and by wrong, you dont mean morally, right? just outside the bounds of propriety?

his methods are whatever he wants to do at any given moment, and thats why hes the best. these idiots of modern times dont understand that people want to watch a wildcard on TV, not some dork pretending hes a wildcard for his character.

now hes everything that wrestlers used to be on television, but actually navigating his reality that way, and we all know about it because of the backstage "news". its the perfect setup for a megastar of our time.

Also, he's good at this stuff in general. And his constant need to pay homage to Bret Hart is heartwarming as can be for me. If its not the gear, its sampling words at the right time and/or segments of matches.

Just his existence in WWE makes basically everything that is any kind of way related to him have STAKES. His promos have set it all up wonderfully..even the first promo that people foolishly whined about was choice. And now...here the fuck we are! And everyone involved knows they have to be on their game or they're gonna look like bitches. It just happened in AEW with guys who didn't have the longevity at the top in Murrica to be able to easily thrive on the other side of a Punk dispute. With WWE, brothers know how to play some chess so everyone is almost certainly gonna be on their best shit and try to print crazy money for as long as Punk can hold up physically. I'm EXCITED.

he pairs his attitude with what seems to be a preternatural understanding of how to build and execute matches that suck people into caring about them, instead of just admiring them

i never saw anything but the pipe bomb from his time in WWE. (#lapsed). When he showed up in AEW that was THE first time id ever seen him on live tv, and it took all of 30 seconds to realize that in terms of a total package, hes just operating on another level than that VAST majority of people.

I hope he's putting in good words for Starks and Hobbs lol

It wasn't going to take long. The man BE cookin.

And then, last night on Raw? When that Rollins music hit? *Lil Wayne ooooo wee face.gif* / I knew it was on.

To me, it was always going to be easy and fun cooking for WWE AS LONG AS MFERS COULD GET ON THE SAME PAGE BEFOREHAND. And sadly, we lived with AEW not being able to do that for whatever effin reason.

But WWE? That d@mn Triple Haitch!? Someone said 'look here, mfer' a couple of times on a call or two, they worked out the deets, and then they all agreed to print some of the easiest money they've printed in a good while. Cody was by no means a guarantee to work as well as it has but here we are. Dude is OVER. And then, friggin Punk becomes available again? That shit is a lock as long as he stays healthy.

And typical Punk, everything he does has/gets heat. He's good at that if nothing else and its a party to have his azz around.

AND

When HE starts cookin, everyone around him WHO IS NOT A BITCH wants to cook too. So its on. This is finna be an easy as hell Mania season for WWE to handle as long as people stay healthy.

And if Brock comes off the farm to put over Gunther too? Shiiiiiiiiiiiid!

I ain’t watching it. The last 3 matches worked for me. I’m calling it a night. I’m passing on another AEW post show shenanigan festival. I’m going to sleep happy about the BCC showing their asses for Eddie Kingston, who was overdue for a great set of nights. I got that. I’m good.

I’m guessing MJF has already signed a short extension but now he’s hurt af and has to take off to heal.

79. "Show was fine. Not their best of the year"
In response to Reply # 75

Reminded me of this year's "Double or Nothing," in that it was top heavy. But it was ultimately better than that. Like Jimiveli said, final three matches made it worth it.

Zero Hour matches were all fine. Stokely on commentary is always awesome. There were only two real possible winners for the battle royale, so that made things a little goofy, but it ultimately gave people stuff to do.

Sucks that Lee got injured and couldn't compete. That said, Swerve should have just squashed Dustin in two minutes. It looked like they were going that way with Swerve destroying him before the match ever started, but then they did a back and forth match that didn't really work.

Miro and Andrade had some decent hoss fighting, but went on waaay too long. And the CJ turn at the end was extremely obvious. Hopefully we get more of Miro in general. Kinda sucks that things didn't work out overall with Andrade, and that that was his final match with the company. They'd been using him well since his "comeback," and he was really good during the Continental Classic. But he was never happy there, and I'd all but guarantee he was the source of Meltzer's "Former WWE guys want to go back to WWE" story. He basically picked that fight with Sammy in hopes that they'd fire him. So now he gets to reunite with his wife and appear on WWE's own New Year's Day show. Eh, Rush is the better anyway.

The Jericho accusations pretty much poisoned the match and the crowd's reactions to it. The only real worthwhile part of it was Sting doing his post-match victory lap, culminating with him hugging Superfan Vladamir in the front row.

Storm's match was the better of the two Women's titles matches. Storm is still absolute greatness and this gimmick is indeed the best thing that she's ever done, making this already the best AEW women's title reign ever. But Riho isn't a credible threat anymore, even if she's good enough that selling that Storm can throw her around the ring and look awesome in the process. The Hart/Abadon match was whatever. Again, Abadon also was never really a credible threat, and that gimmick has a very short shelf life.

I thought the opening match was a lot of fun. Glad Garcia got his moment. And I hope they're setting up Lethal and Briscoe forming a tag team in the near future.

And yeah, the last three matches were all awesome. I do wish the let Adam walk out of there with the title, because they built to that first ending great. Christian is awesome and everything, but that was the right time for him to lose. I honestly don't know where they go with that feud from here.

Moxley and Kingston was my match of the night, as watching them beat the shit out of each other convincingly was thoroughly entertaining. And I'm happy Kingston got his big moment.

And the World Title match went the way that it should have. Joe got to win pretty much clean and is a damn good choice for the world champion. Cole being the Devil is the only logical choice. As I believe was said earlier in this thread, unless Punk or Regal or Shane McMahon (joking) was walking through that door, the reveal was always going to be a let-down to someone. In general, as others have pointed out, "who's behind the mask?" gimmicks never work long-term. MJF being the O.G. devil and Rick Rude being the Halloween Phantom were dope because those "mysteries" were resolved by the end of the night. This going on for the last third/quarter of the year was just too much. I think if Cole hadn't been injured, they could have/should have pulled the trigger earlier.

Now, MJF gets to go on a long, earned vacation. I don't know if you save his return for All In, or you have build it up so that he comes back at Double or Nothing and has his rematch with Wardlow or Cole in England. Regardless, read his Player's Tribune article if you haven't already. It's really fucking good.

So, that's a lot of words for me to say that it was probably the second worst AEW PPV of the year. But Revolution and their streak from Forbidden Door to Full Gear was so good that I can allow a slight misfire every once and a while.

In response to Reply # 0

for my son's big Christmas present, we trained into NYC and went to the WWE house show at MSG. Man did they pack them in...it was reported as a legitimate sellout and I believe it. I thought the best match we saw was actually Balor/Priest vs Sami/Jey ... just awesome back and forth action with fun heel shenanigans. Priest is huge...they're gonna need to figure out when they want to pull the trigger because I'm a convert, he's money (I'd have him cash in on Punk the day after Mania and stay insulated by Judgment Day all Summer).

I've never seen merchandise move like CM Punk's moved, and I went to a lot of NWO and Austin era shows. Anecdotally, it seemed Punk's gear was going at a ratio of 2-to-1, and the 1 was mostly Cody. Punk and Cody were - by far - the most popular guys both in t-shirt sales and crowd response (Jey Uso was third, though I can't tell if the music and 'yeet' are what's over or if he's what's over).

What I think we're seeing the WWE learn in real time is that CM Punk is more popular than they probably even anticipated. I don't know what they're paying him but I'm sure they've made their money back already.

My son and I left before Rollins/McIntyre in the main event and a lot of other people did too. This show ruled. Just seeing action the whole time with not a ton of promos or commercial breaks was so refreshing. Rhea, Priest, Balor, Sami, Jey Uso, Becky, Cody, Nakamura, Dom, Punk...I mean just look at that roster - and that's just half of their team!!!

------------------------

I don't want to see Rock v Roman at Mania. I think , and I think Triple H thinks, that the Mania main event is precious. The best story should be paid off with the best quality of match in a Mania main event...and Rock can't probably can't go longer than 10 minutes. That said, he still has "it" as evidenced by Monday night. If Rock wants to play ball you HAVE to do the Roman match. They have a huge stadium show in Australia the month before Mania...do it there. If you look at what Hunter did last year - Zayn turn at Rumble, Zayn v Roman in Montreal, Cody v Roman in Mania - everything beginning in January ramped up to an explosive Mania main event. So if you do Reigns v Orton at Rumble, Reigns v Rock in Australia, then Reigns v Cody 2 at Mania you've created a momentum that would erupt like a volcano once Cody finally gets the three count in Philadelphia...Roman will effectively have conquered all comers and cemented his place at the head of the table, while leaving enough to dive into post Mania like conflict with Solo.

But I'll say...just going off of what I saw at the 12/26 show...they HAVE to go to Cody sooner than later - he's Cena 2 , albeit better in ring and a more emotive over all performer. It's his time.

Is this the best WWE has been since...early 2000s Smackdown?

I would figure any negotiations that involve him coming back for a match involved it being headlining Wrestlemania against Roman as the Champion.

And I agree that The Rock likely doesn't have a more than 10 minute match in him. And even that HHH probably wants the WM main events to be suitably epic.

That said, this is likely a case where Endeavor will likely stepped in and dictate that if indeed The Rock is back, then he needs to headline the biggest show of the year. They'll want to milk the mainstream coverage and bring in as many eyes as possible.

He got a pin on Roman. They spent a lot of time making him a sympathetic figure during the Bloodline stuff. And even on Raw, they've forced him to, at least at some level, 'address' his bad deeds. Its been gloriously logical that the babyfaces didn't line up in unison to roll with him just cuz he says 'yeet' and because Sami loves him.

Like we go on and on about on here, they did a lot of showing their work to 'make' Jey what he is. I am openly surprised that it has worked this well but hey. I'm excited.

And yes, these babyfaces are in a zone in WWE. Judgement Day and Bloodline are good times as heels and the babyfaces are getting rich off of the battles to take them down while trying to stay on the same page themselves.

Meanwhile, Punk gives Rollins something real to do. And whenever that happens, Rollins is usually a GREAT time himself. So yeah...its an exciting time. And yeah, WWE is printing money.

If we mess around and get MJF's music playing on WWE TV anytime between now and Summerfest? #forgetaboutit

I hope/think so. She's a hoss. And you know they're serious about giving her what she needs to shine. And since we're very in the era now where stars don't have to be on every show, she stands a great chance of not getting shown too much as she gets better and better. I hope for a really good time here!

She's probably not ready for a Gunther run (#1 entrant, goes the distance and eventually gets eliminated) or a Ripley run (#1 entrant, goes the distance and wins). But they could easily put her in at like #10 to #15 and have her clear out all the dead wood, plus a few big names, then have another big name or faction eliminate her. Then set him up for a big match at WM against someone established.

That whole thing was a masterpiece. I was foolish to think 'my childhood hero John Cena' was as high as we could get. Then I thought it was him trying a climb a ladder during a match that was very clearly not a ladder match. Or maybe it was gonna be him thinking he 'got jumped into' Judgement Day.

But now, this fool is trying to be their Sami and I love it. HOF video package-level work here. Good times.

Swipe:

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Kazuchika Okada will be leaving New Japan Pro-Wrestling after the conclusion of his contract on January 31 2024.

We apologise to fans for the abrupt nature of this announcement, but join them in wishing Okada the very best in his future.

As the New Beginning series begins this weekend, Okada will appear on February dates on February 11 in Osaka, and February 23 and 24 in Sapporo. Changes will be made to forthcoming cards with an announcement to follow.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Kazuchika Okada statement:

I have nothing but gratitude for having been a part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling since 2007, and for NJPW bringing me from a 19 year old kid off the plane in Mexico to the Rainmaker I am today. Thank you to the best of companies in NJPW, to the best of opponents that I’ve been able to face here, and to the best of fans that have cheered and booed over the years. I promise to make it rain in every match I have left, so keep watching.

He's already got the connections, friends, and programs built-in over there. And WWE still has a pretty lousy track record for doing anything with Japanese superstars. Closest they've gotten is with Shinsuke, and they've spent years misusing him on the main roster.

Shinsuke’s booking aside, I think wrestling a safer style has added years to his career and my guess is that will be a priority for Okada. He’s been carrying the main event of the work rate promotion for over a decade and his body is beat up. AEW may have juicier matchups for him right out the gate, but it is pretty much the same style as New Japan.

That being said, along with all the other matchups AEW can offer, I would love to see a rubber match with Danielson. I think there’s still another gear those 2 can hit.

Though with Endeavor in charge, things seem weird over there with who they decide to spend money on. They seemingly balked at backing up the Brinks Truck for Sasha/Mercedes. They'll likely re-sign Seth and Becky this year, but things seem up in the air with Drew and Shamus, who you'd normally think would be no-brainers.

But I can definitely see a world where WWE/Endeavor offer Okada more money than he's ever seen, and him taking it.

I feel like besides the absolute top names, there’s sort of a feeling of “what else do we do with you that we haven’t already done?” so I kinda understand their hesitation to re-sign Drew and Sheamus (and Edge before them). It’s a little surprising just cause they’re former world champs, but still. Sheamus has done it all and if you’re not gonna give Drew another title run then there’s not much else to do with him besides move him down to the midcard. Okada gives them fresh matchups so I think they’ll make a play at him.

They're saying this tweet is hint that Okada is coming to AEW, since it was made at about the same time as the announcement that he was done with New Japan.

Only thing left for Sheamus is to win the IC title, but they're not taking it off Gunther for that reason. And yeah, Drew should get/have gotten a world title run, and they probably could have given him one if Roman had dropped the belt to Cody at WM 39 like he should have. I honestly think both stay in WWE regardless.

Saw this rumor, but personally I don’t give it much credence. He acts as a hype man for his own company on Twitter everyday so it’s just as likely it has nothing to do with anything besides his own excitement lol.

...for Cody/Reigns at WM 40. Which, if true, is probably the smartest way to go, as they get to have their cake and eat it too.

The Rock can play the Mike Tyson role, helping the build-up and hyping the event, then play a role in the finish. Then if everyone involved is down, they can do Roman vs. Rock at WM 41. The y can spend the year having the Bloodline turn against Roman and having him "lose everything," then get his redemption by beat Rock a year later.

Punk/Cody was a BANGER of a promo segment. If Seth can’t work, would they have the balls to do a Bret/Luger rumble finish, have Cody and Punk for the new big gold on Night 1 and then do the big gaga Rock/Reigns to flood Peacock’s servers on Night 2? Because I would LOVE three months of these two getting in each other’s way if it’s going to be like that.

Like, feuding with Punk over it would take a little of the stink off it, but no matter how hard they try it would still be a "consolation prize" for Cody. Especially if he drops it Priest immediately afterwards on the cash-in.

I still put it on Tony for not forcing their hands more heavily. Fuck it now! WWE is putting their face in the shit damn near weekly. This Punk/Cody cookathon was just another one!

It really blows how the Bucks are now doing THE EXACT FUCKING GIMMICK they could've printed money with while Punk was still there. But oh well, I hope Kenny gets better and gets to rassle again.

I have no idea what these folks are gonna do at the Rumble. But I'm convinced it will be good, so I'm excited.

The way TKO is structured, they are definitely gonna put him out to pasture. Just wondering how many others go down with him.

Because every single person in a management or position of power certainly Knew what was going on, and then either enabled it or looked the other way.

Because I really don't think it's enough for them to say, "Laurenitis is gone and Vince is de-fanged, so we're going to call it a day."

TKO has been preparing for this for some time (their SEC filing specifically names Vince as a potential liability lol). The old WWE execs who knew/participated/should have done something etc. will be gone, but anyone below that level it’s gonna be tough to point out who could have/should have done something at a workplace where everyone is scared the boss will fire them on a whim. Like the part where he’s bragging that he showed 12 tech guys the pictures and detailed what they could do to her… Vince paints that as everyone being impressed/excited about it, but I keep picturing 12 guys nervously going along with what the creepy old boss says just so he doesn’t can them.

I’m most curious about Nick Khan. He’s relatively new and TKO seems to love him, but if he knew about this 2 years ago it would be tough to justify keeping him around. Also curious to see what happens with Brock. What I read looks bad, but I think they’ll just put him on the shelf for a while, not fire him. I don’t see him being a part of this year’s Mania.

Yeah, I imagine tech guys and grunt workers will make it. I was mostly thinking about management types. I guess Dunn and most other Vince loyalists are gone. I forget if Bruce Pritchard is still hanging around or not.

>I’m most curious about Nick Khan. He’s relatively new and

He's been a money printing machine for WWE and now TKO. And there's was the murmuring that he was the one who originally orchestrated ousting Vince. But yeah, if they somehow establish he knew about all of this, it'll be "Thanks for making us all this cream, see ya later."

And what of HHH? He can try to say, "Hey, I was off running NXT back then!", but if Laurenitis knew, there's just about no way Hunter didn't.

I'd imagine they're scrapping whatever plans they had for him tomorrow night. And they'll put him on the shelf until Summerslam, at least.

Khan and Hunter will stay on. Things are going too well and they both have enough culpable deniability. Maybe Stephanie comes back, and if ever Shane wanted back in this is his opportunity.

Some of this reads so outrageous it's legitimately hard to believe. But if even 1/2 of it's true its still beyond appalling.

I really hope the young woman is alright. The most terrible part is she's one person...surely there's more women.

The speed at which this company has scaled in the past three years...the incredible momentum they've had on TV and with PLEs...the meteoric rise of new stars like Cody,Sami,Rhea,Gunther...

man, what an incredible shame this is happening when it's happening.

This reminds me of Ray Rice. AKA I felt bad about him when I heard about what he did and figured 2 games wasn't quite enough even if I was okay with him eventually making it back into the league. Seeing the vid just made it clear that he HIT THE FUCK OUT OF HER. But I was still 'the same amount of mad'. I didn't love people jumping over stuff after the fact to throw him out of the league.

The big difference here for me? I see it like Vince is done and he should've been done before now because it has been being clear that he was actin a smooth fool.

Vince is an American billionaire with big influence in all sorts of places. Call me jaded, but I figured he was acting a fool at least part of the time in the background damn near the whole time..especially in the entertainment and rasslin spaces he's existed in. Abuse of power stuff. Fire folks over bullshit. Not doing right by people when he easily could have/should have. All sorts of bad stuff with women beyond 'getting some'.

If I'm shocked at anything, its how recent some of these wild things are. He seems to be a special kind of delusional/stupid/bold to be doing crazy stuff knowing that a sale was coming soon, his family was in the mix, and his wife is holding some kind of bullshit office in the Murrican politics swamp/shitshow.

So we have: more NDAs, hiring woman to do sex stuff and then going so far with it and INCLUDING OTHER PEOPLE to the point where you can get sued over it, etcetera. Duh, its terrible if any of the treatment of these ladies is true. And I'm not even the type who is heavily against 'hiring help' or whatever we're gonna call 'basic prostitution'.

So hopefully they get him off the scene. Meanwhile, I'm gonna watch rasslin. And football. And basketball.

Everything I read yesterday was disgusting, but not shocking. That said, I basically didn’t think he was being THIS bold with his misdeeds since they became a publicly traded company, so seeing all this shit with the year 2021 attached to it made my jaw drop.

Also, seems like all he had to do to keep this quiet was continue paying the hush money they agreed to. Christ Vince, you’re a multiBILLionaire, what is a couple million bucks? Pride comes before the fall, I suppose.

Just like the Brock long reign when he rarely showed up was forced.

At this point, when he loses it at Mania it’s a sigh of relief and “Thank God” rather than the absolute moment it should’ve been if he lost it to either Zayn or Cody last year. Which is wild, because they got a do over! Somehow after botching the Zayn shit in Montreal, the fans STILL bought into Cody at Mania! And they blew that too!

The last year has been an absolute waste of time.

Cody is indisputably a bigger deal today than he was at Mania last year

Reigns however seems to be on cruise control and it feels like he’s around even less than he was a year ago.

To your point, that Bloodline story was just so piping hot that it is crazy to think that it didn’t really pay off to anything

Yep. Dude is old! He’s gotta build himself up again from wrestling 3x a month in front of 15k at most. And that’s after 7 years of no rasslin at all!

I swear, AEW brass should feel at least a little bit like assholes looking at that Rumble match…especially that final 2. Those 2 dudes left AEW after getting booed for months over mostly internetty bullshit. It’s a fucking shame really. And a lot of the pussy ass mfers who helped make that shit even worse learned abso-fucking-lutely nothing from it and are still trying to make awesome shit less fun with all the crybabying, comparing, podcasting, and rebooking. Fuck those morherfuckers! Haha. But oh well, AEW still has a fun roster that can do fun stuff.

This Cody shit was wonderful. His presser was the type of thing your number one guy does. I feel like Charlie Brown kicking the football again but the adrenaline is right around my soul AGAIN.

And yes, the Roman shit feels like it needs to be over. The slow walking. The same matches over and over. The same heel shenanigans EVERY FUCKING TIME. The faces all look like assholes when they don’t all band together and kill Solo and them hours before the show. And I’ve been over Roman’s part of the deal for a while even though he’s done great. It deserved the time but it’s time to get the title off of him. I dgaf about his title reign length now since the mfer damn near quit wrestling the last couple of years.

If I'm being generous, it started to pick up from when Cody entered. If I'm being honest, it didn't start to get interesting until Bronn Breaker showed up. The MacAfee stuff was a little funny, but even at 38 seconds was too long. The R-Truth stuff worked better. It will say that it was the right final four, and the right person won.

But in general, these matches work well when they also set up a lot of future matches and chart a bunch of WM matches. And I didn't get a real sense of that here. Or at least many matches that I cared about.

And, it didn't help that the crowd seemed dead AF for almost the entirety of the match. Was Tropicana mic-ed weird? Did the Reigns match kill the crowd? It sure didn't seem like there was very much excitement.

It was much louder than it’s sounding and there was a huge TNA chant for Naomi/jordynne dust up, unless they faded that out in post. But that aside it sounds muffled

In response to Reply # 0

According to Uncle Dave, Brock was supposed to be in the Rumble, and do everything that Bronn ended up doing, including the eliminations and who he got eliminated by.

While it would have been funny for Brock to be get dumped by Dom, the whole thing worked better with Bronn. With Brock, it's the same RR he has damn near every year, especially last year. It's better that they gave some juice to someone different.

Yeah, he's a hoss. He's got that Steiner thing going. Those mfers are STRONG. So he has to be 'working' to make it look like he's struggling to do anything! He's my jam and I hope/think he's gonna hit.

And bonus, Rex probably won't have the issues Scott had. IE: Scott kept getting bigger because he came up in the era of size obsession. Then, he got 'too big', kept getting hurt and was never the same (even if he was still pretty much awesome).

Bayley was the MVP. Great character work all around. “That’s your friend” when Tegan and Nattie went out had me ugly laughing. Naomi getting the local and WWE homecoming. Jordynne Grace stepped up to the big time and SHOWED. OUT. Everything with Chelsea was HIGH comedy. Nia was heel annoying, not “go away” annoying. I’m sure Becky’s elimination means we get the face version of her self-doubt shtick from a couple years ago, which could lead to an epic against Rhea. The NXT women were phenomenal. Jade was FLAWLESS in her debut. Liv came back a house afire. Just *chef’s kiss* to whoever produced that.

I'd said above that I thought they should put her in the middle and give her a Diesel run, but this was probably better. I don't like Nia and I wasn't enjoying her turn as the monster in this match, but it of course paid off with Jade effortlessly eliminating her at the end. And then having her dump Naomi and Becky in rapid succession was a great touch as well. So, good for her, and hopefully she'll be running shit in the women's division in a year or two.

Yes we can! You said about all of it! That was a good match for sure. They got it right in so many ways. It was a joy. Everyone was themselves for that match. And it ain't like they don't have more women outside of the ones who were in the rumble so its good times fo sho!

Truth damn near lost his leg while he was out! It seems clear that WWE is trying to max out his usage now that he made it back. It has been a blast. I can almost imagine EVERYONE in the locker room sitting around trying to think of absurd ways for Truth to show up and be adorably wrong about something. The idea of him being the Sami in Judgement Day is brilliance. They damn near need to break up whenever he's done with them.

Him getting the GMs confused last week is also masterful work.

And 'Tom and Nick' Mysterio is damn near enough for him to be in the HOF by itself. I can think about that randomly and LMAO. If not that, him showing up and challenging the shit out of Paul Heyman (and not Brock) going into a Rumble was also an all-timer.

Whoever thought of this dude for real doing a John Cena hot tag DURING A DAMN ROYAL RUMBLE should go into the HOF too. And for him to do that on the same night where he showed his ass up in the Women's Rumble? Excellent.

Instead of having him roll solo into the ring and be tearful, they set up his return by having Drew put him out on screen. For all the “we’re like old school Southern rasslin” AEW popped when they started up, they’ve always been trash at using off-screen setbacks to build something.

In response to Reply # 168
Sat Feb-03-24 12:17 PM by mrhood75

I said at the time that the only reason WWE, fresh off the sale to Endeavor, wouldn't pull the trigger then is if they thought somehow they could get The Rock for WM40. And, hey, the gamble worked. But it'll piss off the hardcore fans and damage Cody's career in the process.

Initial reports are saying that The Rock pushed as a way to "save" WM after Punk got hurt and the Vince lawsuit. And that TKO backed him up. I can 100% percent buy that. And it's pretty silly. Yes, The Rock helps with the casual eyeballs, but WM really still sells itself. And they still had options for the night one Main Event even with Punk gone.

This really reiterates that you pull the trigger when you're supposed to. This goes for Cody winning at WM39. That was set up perfectly. And as I've said many times before, everything Roman has done since WM would have been better if he had lost to Cody.

As for Cody, I'm not convinced that this turns him into Lex Luger, but having him beat Rollins for the made up belt certainly doesn't help. Especially since he’s beaten him a bunch of times already. They better make sure that they put Rollins in bubble wrap and not let him near an actual match until WM. Because if it ends up he's not cleared to wrestle in Philly? They'll have found a way to make Cody even weaker.

The only way to get away from the Vince stuff is to have Dewayne save the day. As much negativity has surrounded the E in the past two weeks could most certainly be neutralized (for the casuals, of course) is to have Rock and Roman headline night two of the company's grandest show of the year.

>And boy, was not going to Cody at Mania last year the biggest
>booking mistake they’ve ever made

Moreso than last year, this thing reeks of being an obvious corporate decision that has almost nothing to do with the show. Aka this is more like the bullshit that had people tired of WWE so many times before. IE: the last time Rock showed up and yanked a main event away from a top guy. IE: remember that Rumble where Kane and Big Show killed almost everyone and the crowd was pissed?

It’s a tough situation cuz The Rock is fuggin old and he’s the last one from the WWE’s beloved era who can even pretend to have a 20-minute main event. Stone Cold’s showing with KO was a great time but they did a great job of it having lower stakes. With this shit!? The Rock has to fight his cousin who never wrestles. The one who always wins via interference. And oh, ~ everyone was hoping Dusty’s kid was about to take the title off of Roman cuz fuck Roman’s title reign even though the Bloodline stuff has been grand.

And you know fucking well the Rock cannot win the match and fuck up Roman’s bloated ass streaks.

So if this match is happening, Rock is there to get numbers then lose. If you zoom out far enough, sure..it isn’t the worst idea ever. But they are risking the shit out of people not caring as much as they should when Cody finally wins this thing. And that fuckup might have some legs.

AND

There’s at least a little bit of this that makes people who regularly watch the show feel like dumbasses. And that’s a problem for WWE.

We almost had it all. Punk/Rollins and Cody/Reigns plus like 7 other good ass matches! Fuck!? Mania 40 was looking to be an all timer. It’ll still be fun in spots but oh well.

And I want Bayley as the night one main event too. Fuck this Cody/Rollins match. Open the show with it, have Priest cash in / fuck it up somehow, and let’s move on to a good show before we get the Rock losing like a dipshit when some Uce shows up and helps Roman. Zilla or Jacob Fatu..whoever. Doesn’t matter.

I hope Dwayne gets booed to hell every time he shows up

He won’t. But he deserves it.

Mania didn’t need “saving”. The Vince shit is what it is and will permeate more as more comes out. Dwayne does fuckall to mitigate that.

You weather the storm with a feel good main event story that culminates in minting Cody- someone who doesn’t have Vince’s stink on him- on a new tier of relevance and importance, not by making the same cutthroat corporate status quo decisions Vince made.

They already had the perfect guy in play to drive the company forward.

They just needed to pivot and elevate someone else to face Seth and tell compelling stories, particularly with Cody and Roman.

Instead they employed the same dumb, backward thinking employed by Vince for years.

It’s bad creative.
It’s bad business.
It’s just plain bad.
Fuck Dwayne.

they're reunifying the titles with Cody vs Roman. no reason to shit on that belt (and its contenders lol) like that unless its for a match.

whatever happens with the rock will be apart from that

EDIT: this is inline with recent reports of making the product more "sports-centric". similarly, babyface Bayley and heel Rhea will probably unify also.

if for no other reason than not wanting to get pegged as the reason for a fan revolt

they're also risking turning Roman babyface to the live crowd, which would pretty much be a disaster, and would kill whatever interesting dynamics still exist btwn Jey and Roman.

best case scenario for everyone is Jacob Fatu showing up and helping Roman put The Rock 6 feet under while Ata wails and rends her garments at ringside.

And I'd imagine that, at least before Friday night, it's completely plausible that he thought fans would love the idea of him being the WWE chamop again.

I mean, they're turning it into an angle, with Logan Paul and Ricochet posting the WeWantCody hashtag, so we'll see how they recalibrate here. They maanaged to figure it out 10 years ago with Danielson. I guess we'll find out how much self-awareness the Rock really has.

I mean I’m slightly mad that they’ve been in an holding pattern until The Rock said yes, but I get it completely. No idea if this match will be any good, and I agree it doesn’t really *need* the title, but I can’t blame WWE for wanting the title involved either. It does make a big matchup even bigger.

It sucks that it comes at Cody’s expense and I can’t tell you if any of this will be worth it until Mania 41 ends. If they play it right, Cody’s moment will be even bigger coming at the tail end of this story. If they don’t, it will make the end of 39, and by extension the following 2 years, a complete waste. It’s a huge risk, but whatever, I’m just gonna be along for the ride until it ends.

Especially if they really do want The Rock to win.

And they'd also have to have the entire "Table" turn against Roman: Jimmy, Solo, Heyman, Jey, Jacob Fatu. Shit, even Rikishi.

At some Jimmy and Solo are going to have to get sick of Roman gaslighting them and his overall in-character bullshit, realize Jey and Sami were right, and turn against him. And eventually he'll his extended sabbatical to join Dwayne in Hollywood. Whenever he comes back from that, he'll be a babyface by default.

If they go through with it, they might as well hand out clown make-up, wigs, and noses to the rest of the roster. Roman has the belt for close to four years, and instead of dropping it to Cody, Jey, Sami, KO, Drew, or even waiting for Punk or Gunther, they have him lose to an almost 52 year old who hasn't wrestled in forever?

This whole thing is a Rock powerplay, with him bringing Brian Gerwitz back into the fold as well. It's kind of funny that he's doing the exact same thing here as he did with WB/DCEU, except 1) DCEU was in serious trouble and 2) he's got the juice to pull it off, and 3) WWE, at least financially, doesn't really need the help.

I will say that if TKO goes through with The Rock winning, things are about to come out that must about to be REALLY bad for the WWE. Like, beyond federal charges for Vince. They might actually be thinking about cleaning house on the WWE side of the company. Or that there's going to be so much bad PR, that they feel they need a Rock win to cover the stench.

- Bayley's babyface turn was...really good! Love the "i speak that language!" reveal, and her words were emotional without being whiny. also, a prediction: i think this was why Mercedes Mone failed to launch in AEW. Boss Hug reunion will be massive, and will make sure the fans arent cheering for Rhea when unification happens.

- i told yall they were gonna kill the acclaimed. another meme pushed past the breaking point without reinforcing it with a reason to care any more. the title "run" meant nothing, and they spend more time doing the worst of sports entertainment than actually having matches.

- Bron Breaker on Raw means thats your next IC champ

- Aldis and Pearce have one of the best ongoing feuds on TV, and usually have one of the 2 or 3 best segments on TV

- i love Pat McAfee on WWE television. once hes caught up on feuds and angles, he and a constantly improving post-Vince Michael Cole will make Raw significantly more watchable than it had been.

- Ricky Starks and Big Bill really really work for me. too bad they are caught up in this Bucks foolishness. hope those contracts are up soon.

- finally, AEW has crossed the rubicon for me. its fucking boring, and thats the one thing there's no coming back from. i zip thru DVR Dynamite on Monday (so that my YouTubeTV doesnt contribute to their live+3 ratings) in about 15-20 mins. hard to believe how much things have changed since those warm summer Saturday nights that almost made me fall in love with this bullshit all over again.

If only they didn't have a 30 million dollar EVP doing his own version of the Jackson brothers they could get Drew his due too.

Love that Scrap and Magnus are getting to carry forward their NWA feud on a nationally televised stage. Aldis has also been one of the best on-screen authority figures in some time, too.

Pat on Raw also means we get Wade and Corey on Smackers, which is an excellent outcome for everyone.

Um, all indications are that she's signed with AEW. Sorry, sir.

This is a good idea. And honestly they're past the point of needing to move Gunther to the World Title picture. He's the guy who should be beating Rollins.

>- Ricky Starks and Big Bill really really work for me. too
>bad they are caught up in this Bucks foolishness. hope those
>contracts are up soon.

They work surprisingly well together. And are in the right place. WWE had Bill and couldn't do shit with him. And Starks would end up being an afterthought in WWE. The only benefit to him going there would to hang with Cody. AEW can match money.

And no matter what Cornette and Last natter on about, The Bucks aren't beating Sting and Darby and winning the belts. They're there to add stakes to the match so the result isn't a complete forgone conclusion. Sting will win in front of 15,000 and retire a champion.

Yeah, disagree here. Continental Classic was awesome. They're turning Daniel Garcia into a star; his team-ups with FTR have been great. They've turned Swerve into a star. The classic made Brody King and Mark Briscoe incredibly compelling. Prince Nana and Stokely Hathaway are my two favorite managers working. Joe is a great champion. Toni Storm is the most entertaining character on TV (and saved Luther in the process). They're women roster and booking has vastly improved. Christian and the Patriarchy are great heels. And I really like the Acclaimed vs. Bullet Club Gold.

Obviously, everything doesn't work. Injuries are a big reason. They certainly tanked the MJF/Cole angle. And it doesn't help that the Undisputed Kingdom isn't exactly setting the world on fire. Positioning them as monster heels goes against what got The Kingdom and Strong over in the first place. It's obvious Strong is going to beat Orange Cassiby for the belt, but they haven't made a compelling argument of why it has to happen at Revolution rather than now. Takeshita and Hobbs are awesome, but they're going no where in a program with Jericho, which has ground to halt with Omega out.

But overall? Still happy. **shrug**

And for Drew McIntyre, WWE has done well with him as of late. And beside if not Gunther, then he should be the guy who beats Rollins.

i still hope cody's first feud as champion will be with gunther. maybe not even the first match, but the first long term "thing". he might even be the guy to make cody's Paul Revere acid trip a coherent reality.

that was a long time ago for bill, who has clearly developed, with a clearly different philosophy in place. and hard disagree on Starks. he would go to WWE and talk his ass off. as long as they arent on a good TV show they are both in the wrong place.

i dont care what happens in the match. they themselves are the turnoff. their wretched performances of this wretched material have spoiled what should have been a nice sentimental time for me watching my favorite wrestler ride off into the sunset. i was gonna order only my second AEW ppv since 2022 specifically for this, but their presence has ensured i will not.

Those pretapes gave him a new sense of menace and danger and then - like, I get you can't have your big white-meat babyface lose while he's trying to build momentum, but at least sow some doubt. He got one mist spot early on in the feud that made it look like he was going to give Cody problems and then he got beat - and beat again - and beat again - and beat again- with no real trouble. It doesn't help that he had to work a PG street fight and bull rope match, so there was no way Cody was actually getting color to make it look like he had been through a war, but now even the mist is completely devalued.

As I said above, there was a path to work there. Have Shinsuke put him out in the first match. Make it look like the guy is dangerous. Make it look like Cody might not make the Rumble. Hell, maybe even make him miss the Rumble and have Punk, Gunther or Drew win it to take the fake belt off of Seth at Mania. Then you have a readymade opponent for Cody to start his reign, and THEN he can look at the lights.

Yep! This is where the 'need' for 'finishes' in TV matches hurts heels sometimes. If you have a babyface that can't lose, but you need a finish, those JTTS heels are gonna stay losing hella matches. Nak has been losing to all around the country to Cody!

I wonder who her first feud will be with. People are clowning about it being Baker DMD, but that might for real be it unless she's hurt.

I know I'm excited about Jamie Hayter..I'm hoping she's getting close and she comes back hossing. Broken Toni is due to get her azz completely kicked and Jamie seems like the right one unless her fine azz lackey is gonna be the one to do it.

In response to Reply # 0

I know no one here watches TNA, but that situation is bizarre to me. Scott D'Amore has spent years building that company back from the dust, running creative and drafting talent. He gets them back to an at least "respectable" position, gets hired at the company president last late year, spearheads the Impact to TNA rebirth... And then Anthem shit-cans him.

D'Amore is beloved in that locker room. I doubt they sign Nick Nemeth/Dolph Ziggler or Mustafa Ali if he wasn't there. So Anthem replaces him with their equivalent of a bean-counting Jim Herd. They've managed to hang-on for over 20 years now, but I honestly wonder if they'll survive this.

As for New Japan, I have no idea what's going on over there. Is Rossy Ogawa trying to do his own thing? Is he going to the WWE? It's all very confusing.

Seems to me the only way out of this is either Roman works both Rock and Cody two separate nights, or they really do just emasculate Cody

You could so easily have Roman go over Night 1 vs Rock, then Cody go over Roman Night 2 with Rock’s help

However, how likely is it that Roman works two nights in a row?

I guess they could also go the WMXXX route, with Cody pinning The Rock to win? Even that would sort of undercut Cody's reign out the gate. He kind of needs to pin Roman.

Yep.

We’ll never know for sure if they were gonna ho Cody or not.

But they made mfers wait for it. The press conference gave me hope for something cool. And when the Rock came out before Cody, I kinda knew. I felt better as soon as I saw Punk on the panel. And when Cole directly asked about The Rock showing up 10 years ago, it was clear Cody wasn’t gonna go out like a bitch.

And now, we got a stew going, the money shall be printed, and holy fuck..CAN NO ONE ELSE GET HURT IN THIS MFER!

There’s zero chance Dwayne and his Endeavor buddies expected the fans to turn on him so thoroughly.

I am 100% convinced this was a pivot.

But goddamn is it working.

They still have to complete the build and stick the landing.

The Smackdown moment is still trash. I don’t believe for a moment that Dwayne’s ego or the Endeavor/TKO brass expected such a negative reaction, and absent empirical evidence to the contrary, I’ll never be convinced otherwise.

We’ll never know what the plan was, or how much of what we’re seeing is part of that initial vision, but we now have a ton of incredibly engaging questions to answer between now and Mania, and this has been a masterful pivot.

Everything after Smackdown has been great. Pro wrestling is always at its best when they make it hard to discern what’s a work, what’s a shoot, and what’s a worked shoot, brother.

And I fucking LOVE not being able to tell for sure, even and especially if I lean a certain direction.

A few things stand out about this:

-Cody is fucking OVER. Yeah that shit was a mix but heavily slanted toward Cody, and anyone who can garner that level of support against the fucking Rock of all people is absolutely, inarguably, unequivocally The Guy IMO.

-This segment did some damage to Seth because he felt like an unnecessary piece. Roman shit all over him and Cody all but ignored his presence and that wasn’t a good look. They need to rectify that. The good news is they can elevate him even further with this and he absolutely has the chops to do it.

-Dwayne didn’t do the corny high school barbs for once.

Thank fucking god. Because “Cody Crybabies” was incredibly weak, no matter how many people fawn over it or any of the other badly outdated trash Dwayne spits. His aura still hits but he needs some better material. I forgot how badly Punk and Cena cooked his ass because his shit was spitting so much low hanging fruit by comparison.

All of this looks and feels real. It’s already one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen as a fan going back to the late 80’s.

He's standing there with the workhorse title (which everyone looks at as a consolation prize cause it is) and no one is paying any attention to him. Been begging for a Cody match and not gonna get it.

I will say, that pull apart feels like we'll get a tag match of Roman/Rock vs Cody/Seth in the meantime and I'm down for that.

Seth MFin Rollins is gonna be fine. He's turned babyface over the last few months and people don't insta-hate him like they have in prior moments where he tried to be a babyface. Him showing up dead serious to not get murked by Punk's momentum was great work to me. He KNEW he had to bring it and he did.

And him even getting to be involved in the main story for 'the biggest Mania ever' shows that they wanna do right by him. And he's getting that WHILE HE IS HURT. And even when his dance partner (Punk) got hurt too. This is all good!

He will probably be allowed to quit showing up looking like a jackass every week at some point here soon too. And then, the focus be mainly on him being a king shit rassler who loves WWE so much and wants to be 'the guy'. Shiiiid, he might even show up in an updated version of White Summerfest gear. I'll know its on then!

And I'm guessing he wouldn't agree to get hoe'd this strongly without some kind of retribution forthcoming. Even if he gets a run against Cody while he waits for Punk to be ready, that would be fun too.

Him vs Sami vs Drew (Drew should win) at Mania would be a party and a half if it happens. I don't know if I want him having to come back from injury and immediately be in-charge of making the Rock look not old and awesome, but he could do that too.

They still need to give him a get back or two because they’ve shit on him pretty bad over the last week.

Hell, Cody inadvertently shit on him by paying no mind at all last night. They should have had Cody come out and put Seth and his title over, making it clear he has personal reasons why it had to be Roman.

IMO last night was an amazing bit of business, but it was extremely sloppy and the way they treated Seth was one of the glaring flaws of it all.

On the flip, they created a lot iof questions to answer, and “how will Seth react to this?” is a big one. They’ve been building Drew up quite well and he’s knocking it out of the park, so he could and should be the solution there, with Sami as the other option. A triple threat would be amazing.

My hope is that they’re planting seeds for Seth vs Roman down the line and maybe featuring a Paul/Dwayne power struggle (as long ad it’s used to highlight and elevate current stars).

But all in all, I think fans are going to rally behind Seth after watching the horrendous way they’ve treated him.

Khan has been fine with the idea in the past; WWE has been the hold up. He was fine with letting Gunn appear for the DX reunion, only stipulating that was with AEW on the air. Trips balked.

I don’t think Cody and Rollins were ever supposed to cross paths and Punk was going to help elevate Rollins and that title.

But I think the Rock WAS going to come back as a monster heel to first align with Roman, just to make things feel that much worse for Cod and then eventually turn Roman babyface too.

But what they have now , Rock as Thanos, is probably the hottest thing they’ve had since the pipebomb. What’s exciting about this is they can stretch it for miles if they want.

I think Rock should bully his way into the Chamber match, win, and go for Rollins at Mania.
Then win there too. Then cast out Roman after Roman loses to Cody. Then run Bloodline 2.0 via satellite all summer like a mob boss. And no funny shit EVER.

Dude Rock should recruit Nia Jax even and help Her beat Rhea Ripley in front of a stadium full of Aussie fans, there’s some heat. Imagine an eventual Rhea/Rock stare down?

Seth Rollins just came out showed his ass on the mic and pledged to help Cody against Dwayne and Roman. And for just a split second I thought I caught a glimpse of Sting and DDP plotting against the NWO.
