(said knowing full well a GOATed Jimmy game or two is lurking somewhere nearby like Michael Myers)

Will reiterate that it took an epic bed-shitting by our role players *and* Miami playing perfectly in the 4th *and* Miami hitting ~50% from 3 for them to barely win via a close miss from Jamal. So, like, let's not have THAT happen again.

In response to Reply # 0

i originally had miami in 7. but a lot will be revealed about the nuggets mental makeup if they go down in a series for the 1st time in this playoffs. we will see tonight how they respond to losing their first home game and home court advantage. i might have to adjust my predication down a game or two.

people are framing these games with such a pro-nuggets driver seat slant like they framed the early games in the nuggets/lakers series in terms of what the lakers did to lose or not.

like people are acting like the heat hitting 3s and having a big 4th quarter are some aberration. when theyve been the best 3 point shooting team in the playoffs and easily the best 4th quarter team in the playoffs...especially when it comes to winning games after being down 10+.

miami is breaking vegas/analytics with what theyve been doing during this run. its historical in its own right but its not being covered that way.

like theyve played 20 playoff games i believe...and 6 of those they have shot 50% or above from 3. and denver is giving a up a lot of open 3s.

if anything...the real aberration was them missing so many 3s in game 1.

and nobody is factoring in that jimmy hasnt really gotten it going yet and caleb martin has been a nonfactor in denver. i dont expect that to continue. and thats bad news for denver if miami adds more scoring because that defense aint going anywhere.

Miami should be up 2-0 if they shot up to their standard, and role players usually play better at home.

it wasnt even just that the heat shot bad in game 1. their *best* shooters all uncharacteristically bad at the same time. strus and robinson combined went 1-15 or something like that from 3.

thats not gonna happen again.

i just said i dont expect those heat players to play as extraordinarily bad as they did in game 1.

theres a big difference in the usual heat sharp shooters bricking wide open 3s...and murray and mpj having trouble scoring because of the heat defensive adjustments limiting their good shot opportunities (like jimmy guarding murray and the heat running a matchup zone to stick to mpj and force him into contested 3s while still preserving the zone principles everywhere else on the floor).

i mean...look at what that heat defense is doing to denver to this series compared to their previous rounds (even including the game 1 'blowout').

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fx5u0CzXgAIIaxX?format=jpg&name=large

that defense is gonna be there the whole series. might even be better at home. might even get better as the series progresses and the physical/mental pressure starts grinding guys down.

if key miami players just start playing better than that horrific game 1 start...that combined with the defense puts them in a lot better position.

they won the 4th quarter in both games at the toughest home court in the playoffs.

if these games are anywhere near close going into the 4th (which is prolly gonna be more likely as the series goes on)...miami prolly has the advantage.

where the pressure has players like mpj and kcp reverting back to bad habits and the team in general is starting to get away from their identity.

plus...what are the nuggets gonna do about all of the open 3s they are giving up to the best 3 point shooting team in the playoffs? is this team even capable of any defensive adjustments or personal changes that would address that? thats a pretty glaring hole in an area that could easily decide a series.

when its all said and done...it could look like denver really only won the 1 game everybody expected them to win (home game in altitude with mad rest vs a team coming in off a grueling 7 game series). and they might come up short in the other games where they really had to compete.

Regardless of how you feel about all that, to say we haven’t handled adversity in the Jokic era is to ignore or forget about that entirely. That’s one of the more memorable runs in recent memory along those exact lines.

And now we can add tonight to the conversation as well!

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Your kid can be in touch with the best coach, librarian or history teacher within 100 miles but if the parents don’t like what that person is telling their kid either the kid gets yanked to another school/club team or the coach gets fired, or both

And sadly, so many of these kids man..their parents didn’t really watch basketball. They saw Space Jam, played NBA Jam, watched Sportscenter, ‘rooted for’ the Bulls, and assumed that basketball started and essentially ended with Miguel Jorn and his expensive ass tennis shoes with Kobe being a ghost of whatever they think that is. And trust me, I like Jordan and Bean well enough. It ain’t their fault mfers didn’t and don’t watch basketball.

Oh, and they kinda remember the Dream Team.

And these kids now? Nba 2k, shoes, AAU, not listening, not playing a full slate of college games, worrying about their brand when they damn near can’t play, not understanding at all how much work Lebron had to put in to be the absolute freak he’s been for most of the last 20 years, focusing on 3 and D cuz so many dudes have made careers off that, etcetera. Listening to their uncles and daddies lazily compare Kobe to Lebron all day. Sad shit. How are they gonna know any damn thing!

And don’t start me on a few NBA dudes signing 4-5 year deals then crying their way out of town after 1 or 2. That is NOT Lebron shit..dude was taking real chances with shorter deals, throwing his weight around to construct rosters (knowing he’s gonna get blamed if they lose), and risking his whole shit by allowing the media to make money off of him being the semi-villainous Tribal Chief of the league. A lot of kids think they’re doing Lebron shit when they’re closer to Zion if not dude from LSU who is scared to shoot now. I don’t even wanna say his name. And on their best day, some of these kids don’t have the talent of a Kyrie but they long to be a similar kind of free spirited enigma or whatever they think Irving is doing.

Meanwhile, bigs are getting to be important again, the try hard ‘boring’ folks are on a come up in terms of contracts, quality of life, and winning, and being able to get and make midrange shots is coming back in style. Jimmy has booty bumped and good tough shot himself into 2 NBA finals recently. Jokic..same shit…just bigger and more unstoppable. Greek freak’s bonkers finals run..same thing. Even most people’s best case fever dream version of AD is a lot of the same stuff..effort, imposing will, getting down low more, offensive rebounding, etc. Mfers trying to be hood Lukas and that shit ain’t gonna fly forever.

shit, Bam had like 10 by himself.

dude has a ton of openings against this denver defense. he can pretty much do what he wants without much resistance. get to the middy pullup, get to the rim, etc.

but instead of him being extra aggressive and taking it upon himself to really carry more of the offensive load because the others have harder matchups...hes cool to settle in that 20-something range.

sometimes he will miss some gimmes and still be in that range. and sometimes he will shoot efficient as hell and still be in that range.

but he never really breaks through that ceiling no matter how well he is playing or what the defense is giving him.

he shoots it from so high and puts so much arc on it that the ball is more like to drop in even if it hits the rim first.

on flip side, i'm just as suprised how many jump shots jimmy butler makes because he has very little arc on his jumper.

In response to Reply # 75

Jokic played water polo as a kid and the YouTube creator thinks Jokic's touch is because water polo players use their finger pads to subtly control the ball more than their wrists. Since the finger pads are easier to control small bursts of force, that might explain Jokic's pillow-like touch.

Here's the clip - https://www.youtube.com/live/MPWClzPbTRw?feature=share&t=4110. You'll want to watch until about the 1:11 mark.

there being 3 games in Miami, I wonder if they were just simply
preserving themselves for the long run. Spo surrendered too
easily in the closing minutes of the 4 quarter for me.

The entire team just appeared to be going through the motions, and
we know the Heat don’t have an effort issue. That has never been an issue
for them.

I imagine the Heat will win game 4 and be supercharged to battle in game 5.

you're saying they took it easy last night...with the idea that they then win Friday and eventually make it back to Miami next week for game 6? If they lose tomorrow night and go down 3-1...it's prolly a wrap Monday in Denver and they'll be coming back to Miami to clean out their lockers.

game. That’s what I got from their body language.

Also, we should all be far removed with completely counting the Heat out if they go
down by another game. Like Wendy has stated, the Heat buck all trends, analytics,
odds, and observations.

All I’m saying is, with what we know of Heat culture, and how they are tough, focused
and unwavering, they just appeared to be going through the motions last night…like
they do in the regular season.

They were getting out-hustled by MPJ, and that’s not even his game…

They just didn’t seem pressed to win last night …that was my perception. By half time,
the game was pretty much a forgone conclusion. I’m not saying they took a dive, but at
the same time you start to do the math with saving your energy, effort and strength for
the long run of the series.

last night, TO ME, was a bigger must win for Denver.

cuz i think if they went down 2-1 they would have started to crumble.

the role players already looking shaky and now to be propped up as this Western Conference juggernaut and be down to the "lowly" Heat? bad for mental health, lol.

but hey, maybe Miami fucked up and dug themselves a hole they won't recover from.

any Game 4 Tyler Herro prognosis?

But I would add: stupid on Miami's part, frankly. They can't control the talent or size discrepancy. And sometimes shots fall and sometimes they don't. They can out-effort us though. So to let us come into *their* building and absolutely, unequivocally dominate them on that front was maybe not the best move for them to make. Because now they gotta beat us 3 out of the next 4. That's almost certainly not happening.

And, like, REALLY BAD chokejobs too. Monty took the bullet for 'em this time around so I guess we'll see what's up there. But there's no blemishes like that on Jamal's resume.

He's also played more as a conventional 2 than Jamal is - as blurry as all these lines are these days - but I think it's fair to compare the two for sure.

Edit I don’t know how Dame made that top 75 of all time list , undeserved imo

He’s up there

But when he wins this ring he will have a better resume than everyone minus Curry

you need them to win, but the teams that do smart winning business wont pay him what struggling teams will

then you expect dividends based on what youve paid him, rather than the standard set before he got to your team

then they're contract busts, and in 4 years he'll be back making $6M giving a good team 15-20 great minutes

in short, teams that would give a Bruce Brown the most money are the teams least likely to win anything

one guy that’s not that big or athletic but kills everybody on basic fundamentals and because he just knows how to play and everybody wants him on their team. Jokic is the 7 foot version of that lol.

What will be interesting is we all know this a copycat league will teams try to find the next Jokic or try to devise specific strategies to stop him.

I know it will be hard to find a player quite like but a big man that’s not that athletic but with all around skills may not be written off as quick. We all know Jokic was a 2nd rounder.

Are you saying that for the last several years our opponents have not been devising specific strategies to stop him?

It's clearly Phoenix, at least thus far.

All the games against LAL were crazy close but the point, ultimately, is to win.

As far as the Heat series goes... let's be real, if the Nuggets don't fall asleep against Miami in 4th quarter of game 2, we're 3 days into the off-season already. And Miami has also been losing to us by over 10 points a game in this series - it really hasn't been that close overall.

The PHX games basically came down to whether Booker or Durant were gonna be the best of their best selves

The Lakers games felt more like chess matches, even if LA ultimately got punked.

and jokic damn sure cant do anything about bams push shot or midrange j.

thats clearly been a mismatch in bams favor on the offensive end.

i have no idea why he/spo doesnt attack jokic more aggresively.

the heat did just fine without Herro

but DLO pisses me off with his body language when his shot isnt falling, just mopey, standing around, not trying...if he had Pat Bev's hustle/grit/tenacity, he would be 25x better

but he's a soft pretty boy with a nice stroke big pause and zero DAWG

drives me insnae

but the Heat DID make it, with ZERO help from Herro along the way. at least the Bucks got SOME Giannis games, lol.

pretty easy to surmise, with as much of a fight the Heat put up to the Nuggets despite Jimmy Butler being broken/choking/whatever it was, and pretty much all of their hot shooting disappear outside of Game 2, that a 20ppg guy with size and some athleticism could make a big difference to the Heat.

like, i'm not gonna hold this over Nuggets fans heads like people like to do with injuries that affected Warriors opponents, but let's just remember that people do that shit.

"oh, they didn't have so and so"...whatever it is. in fact, mad Denver fans like to point out how Murray and/or MPJ were hurt in their playoff flame-outs (which i'm only pointing out since Denver is the team of the moment).

Tweaked the roster perfectly after there was a lot of uncertainty with Connely’s departure (who proceeded to go to Minny for huge money and immediately make one of the worst trades ever lol). That KCP trade… even though I love Monte always… was *incredibly* savvy. We’re in very good hands.

I ain't really mad, as I've kind of liked this team for a while now, even as division rivals. In terms of how they were put together, they remind of the Warriors: core three players are homegrown, solid free agents signings, spent the last few years learning how to win, well coached. And now Jokic is never going to be a "What if?..." player, as he won his chip while he was still fairly young.

So, cheers to the Nuggets and their fans. I got nothing bad to say about them.

The Avalanche and Nuggets have won in back-to-back years, yet most people locally cannot see most of their non-national games w/o paying a ridiculous premium for Altitude (the local RSN). This is a situation that was completely manufactured by Kroenke/Comcast, and has gone on for years now... coinciding, of course, w/ a remarkably successful period in Denver sports history. No real resolution is in sight (afaik, anyway), and both the Avs and the Nuggs are obviously poised to be really good for a while.

C/P'ing a decent summary of this because Westword's site is atrocious. And to annoy that illiterate dude who posts here sometimes.

---

https://www.westword.com/news/comcast-altitude-lawsuit-deal-nuggets-avalanche-kroenke-16423543

During the prime-time news dump on Friday, March 17, Comcast and Altitude Sports & Entertainment jointly announced the resolution of a lawsuit filed in late 2019. While the details of the settlement are being kept under wraps, both parties confirm that for most subscribers, the deal won't lead to Comcast returning Altitude to its lineup — the reason the complaint was pressed in the first place.

That means Comcast, the nation's largest and most powerful cable service, and Altitude, owned by billionaire Stan Kroenke, whose portfolio also includes the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche, have achieved absolutely nothing after more than three years of grappling in court. And once again, the fans are the losers.

The first Westword post on this subject, published in September 2019, noted that the high-stakes pissing match over broadcasting fees initially involved multiple services: DISH had switched off Altitude at midnight on August 29 that year, while DIRECTV and Comcast did so on August 31. A couple of months later, the network reached an agreement with DIRECTV, but a pact with DISH and Comcast remained elusive.

Then, in November 2019, Altitude sued Comcast, accusing it of using its monopoly power to drive the network out of business. The complaint maintained that "Comcast now wants to extinguish competition from Altitude so that Comcast can pocket more of the money it takes from consumers each month for sports programming in the Denver DMA ."

Comcast's response: "This is a meritless lawsuit in an intensely competitive market where Comcast has no competitive regional sports network and Altitude has multiple distribution alternatives. Instead of pursuing baseless litigation, Altitude should engage in responsible commercial negotiations that would allow Comcast to distribute its programming to those customers who want it without driving up costs for customers who do not."

In the years since, Comcast has essentially repeated this argument, maintaining that customers who have zero interest in Altitude's fare shouldn't have to pay for it.

Pause for riotous laughter.

Because of the Altitude-Comcast dustup, Nuggets and Avalanche loyalists who chose not to switch to DIRECTV or FuboTV, a broadcast alternative that picked up the network last fall to the excitement of practically no one, were robbed of the opportunity to closely follow two of the most exciting franchises in professional sports. Yes, the playoff games played by the Avs en route to the Stanley Cup championship were widely available, but ancillary coverage that would have enhanced the experience didn't receive nearly the viewership it deserved.

With both squads currently on the cusp of another post-season run, the timing of a resolution was auspicious, but the joint statement issued by the combatants hardly inspired celebration:

Comcast Corporation, Comcast Cable Communications, LLC, and Altitude Sports & Entertainment, LLC announce today that they have reached a settlement of their lawsuit pending in federal district court in Denver, Colorado. The parties will file shortly a stipulation of dismissal with prejudice of that suit. The terms of the settlement are confidential except that the parties acknowledge that the settlement does not involve the carriage of Altitude on Comcast's cable systems. Comcast and Altitude remain willing to discuss potential future business and distribution arrangements.

What does this actually mean? Essentially, that Comcast is willing to provide Altitude to customers who will pay extra for it, as they do for HBO, Showtime and the like — something the firm's executives were willing to offer at the beginning of the entire brouhaha.

This wholly unsatisfying conclusion only reinforces the idea that the regional sports-network model is broken — a claim made to Westword by Darrin Duber-Smith, a marketing professor and senior lecturer at Metropolitan State University of Denver, in October 2019, a few weeks into the standoff. And further proof isn't hard to find. In the beginning, Altitude Sports president Matt Hutchings told Westword that he only wanted the same treatment that Comcast had been giving to AT&T SportsNet, television home of the Colorado Rockies. Now, though, the channel's owner, Warner Bros. Discovery, is looking to ditch its regional sports properties, which could conceivably lead to Comcast jettisoning broadcasting the Rockies' games, too.

Having an excuse not to witness the Rockies stink up another campaign doesn't sound bad. But missing out on more Nuggets and Avs action blows — although not enough for me to pony up more dough to Comcast. My wife and I already pay the company an astronomical $136 per month, including premium fees, and for this sum, we receive dozens upon dozens of channels that we never watch and never will, thanks to the incredibly antiquated model that cable firms around the country continue to cling to as the world changes around them.

So let me make a proposal to you, Comcast. If you let me have Altitude again, you can switch off twenty other channels of my choice. Or maybe fifty. Hell, let's make it 100 channels that I'm paying for that I don't give one-tenth of a damn about. Then, and only then, will I buy your assertion that this dragged-out dispute was about treating everyone fairly instead of yet another attempt to shake more dollars out of me.

I'm waiting for your call. But I'm not holding my breath.

we look back at this ("boring", unfairly disciplined and skilled) Nuggets team as Duncan's Spurs 2, I would not be especially surprised

like

Jokic 4 Rings / 4 finals MVPs

Nuggs go to 5 or 6 Finals, etc

I could see it

The timing of them coming on while Bron/Warriors fade and no real up and coming West team spring up makes it possible to me. Maybe, MAYBE, OKC with all of those pics blossoms into something. MAYBE Wembanyama 6 or 7 years from now is that dude. But for the foreseeable future Jokic is "good in the West"

Except for Miami. Their carriage turned into a pumpkin. Not much more you can say on that at this point.

But it's probably fair to say LAL and/or PHX were the presumptive favorites to come out of the west... and we crushed them.

I'm coming out of this feeling like the West was clearly stronger than the East this year, and that the East was WILDLY overrated. And we ran the conference all year.

was all up in the air. I would have put Golden STate over LAL as favorites and Phx played what, 8 games with Durant and then their starting pg got hurt.

And this isn't to take away from Denver bc they did what they were supposed to do. But there were alot of teams in the WEst with obvious glaring holes and it would have been surprising to see them advance to the finals.

Jokic's individual performance throughout the 'offs was "top 3 all-time, maybe GOAT" (c) The actual GOAT

Overall though? Definitely not one of the all-time runs or anything in terms of difficulty. Just decisively passing each test.

and you can pretty much guarantee that a bunch of those good, young, role-player-on-championship-team type dudes on Memphis are gonna take bags from some other team in the next couple years.

i did somehow totally forget about Sacto. they seem like they are a roster move or two away from really contending, or a couple guys gotta show improvements (*cough* Sabonis).

OKC will be the next Sacto if they play their cards right, plus they have Chet coming back next year so if he can stay healthy you gotta think they are markedly improved. and they always have a million draft picks to use as trade bait or to pick young talent.

Yeah, GS got to the 5 Finals, and the Bulls got 6 in 8 years. But we thought Shaq and Kobe would win more than three and that OKC would get to more than 1 Finals, and that the LeBron Heat would have more time as a unit.

And as others have said, that doesn't include teams taking a leap like OKC, SAC, MIN, GS, BOS, NO, LAC, or PHI. Plus, we don't know if injuries might hit them again (I sincerely hope they don't, but...)

I think we can pencil them as a Top 3 team for the next two years and after that, time will tell.

bc then you got a 3 year run of 1st round exits and missed playoffs in the middle of your window.

but have it your way lol

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

This is absolutely subjective, fyi.

And I’m happy to burst your bubble on that last one:

If success is how you define a “window”, then the warriors have had two distinct windows?

If success is the metric, that is. They didn’t even make the playoffs last year.

It’s valid to view Kobe’s 10 year stretch as one window, and nobody has presented a credible argument for why that isn’t the case. Every criteria you and cenario have brought up is subjective.

Were there no through-line with Kobe, and it was some other, different star who wasn’t part of the first threepeat, you’d have an objective point.

But that isn’t the case.

You don’t want to accept that truth, no sweat of my nutts.

I’m at work with damn near nothing but down time until i get off so I’m happy to keep up this little game of badminton.

Losing one of the Big Two doesn’t give the remaining cog a second window IMO.

so it's not like one cog changed.

the 2nd main cog did, as well as the whole supporting cast.

We won’t agree on this and that’s fine.

7 of 10 for the main dude on the same team is one long window, even with the roster changes.

It was only three seasons between the 4th finals and the 5th.

Kobe had one window.
Kobe was on the Lakers.
The Lakers had one window.

It was one window.

as result of the dreaded second tax apron I've heard about from the new CBA agreement, but I would guess that provision will shorten championship windows as well.

A team I'm very curious in regards to that second tax apron is the Suns since they heavily leveraged their future with that Durant trade. I'm not a fan of his, but I feel sorry for Vogel since there's going to be a ton of pressure on him to produce results.

..such a dominant performance en route to their 1st NBA Championship.

Murray & the Joker are one helluva tandem. Mastered the art of the pick & roll, with perimeter shooting and defense. Props to Mike Malone for clearly out-coaching everyone he faced during this run.
