big names all showed up in the straight line tests

Christian Gonzalez (Oregon) probably was the most impressive athletically (4.38 at 6'1, 197 with 41" vert, 11'1 broad and 32" arm length)

Kelee Ringo (Georgia) ran faster (4.36) with 10 extra pounds than Gonzalez, but he had a lower numbers across the board (and I was surprised his arm length was barely 31" despite being 6'2)

Cam Smith also showed up well

Joey Porter Jr (Penn State) had a great time for his lankiness (4.46 with 34" arm length is elite)

than Fields?

Do they roll the dice on Levis or Richardson? Can he be Cam 2.0?

Its seems like the QB drop off is pretty steep after those 4.

Does Hooker have pro potential?

“I think people are viewing Bryce as a perfect prospect otherwise, but he’s not perfect even without the size,” he said.

“His arm is not strong. It is below what most of the better quarterbacks in the NFL have. I think he will struggle to make some throws to the field outside the numbers. On seam routes, crossing routes, he’s going to be a little late.

"His footwork isn’t good because he’s got this Steph Curry style, that’s like, ‘I’m playing like I’m not even sweating.’ It’s awesome, but you’re gonna miss on some throws being a tick late on time throws. He was a little loose in college because I think he knew I can get away with this."

"He’s not 6-2, not thick, but you can’t deny his talent and his ability. I like him better than I liked Tua (Tagovailoa). He sees the field a lot better. Tua is really effective in the RPO game, but I didn’t feel like he read the field very well.

"I had a guy (quite a bit) bigger than Bryce and he got beat to shit and can barely finish the year. The team that takes him will say they’re gonna invest in the O-line. O.K., that’s awesome, but when he gets landed on — and he will — he’s going to break."

“The only reservation that I would have that would keep me up is C.J.’s receiving corps (at Ohio State) that’s gonna be the best he ever has for the rest of his life. Garrett Wilson, (Chris) Olave, (Marvin) Harrison, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. You’re lucky to have one guy like that. Best case two. He had four or five like that! Yeah, his game tape is NFL concepts and big boy throws but well, shit, I would have conviction too ripping this ball if Marvin Harrison Jr. is out there. This could be the best version of him as well. I think if Aidan O’Connell from Purdue was at Ohio State, I think he would’ve thrown for 40 touchdowns, to be honest.”

so osu qb's are now going to be downgraded by default for however long Hartline is running the WR room?

and qb's who have been objectively bad at the college level or who didnt even play at the DI level will be upgraded? because this is somehow a higher percentage pick than someone who balled out with great wr's against the best competition?

either a guy can play or he can't. if you're a NFL GM or pro scout then earn your salary and figure it out instead of admitting defeat and throwing darts at the wall.

In response to Reply # 12

“Anthony has shown so much raw ability, and the Florida offense is fairly complicated. When you involve that many shifts and motions, you still have to operate it. There’s some full-field progression reads. He’s reading three-level floods. It wasn’t just read the corner here or not every single play was an RPO or they cut the field in half. He clearly wants to be a passer. It’s just that he happens to run a 4.43 too."

"I went and watched the FSU game, what was he 39 percent (33 percent) in that one. But you watch that film. Yes, there are some things you don’t like, but not one receiver made one play on any ball thrown. He threw a post on the money. Guy can’t make the play. He throws a 9-ball on the money. Guy can’t make the play. I know what the numbers say, but the numbers don’t always tell the truth.”

“The good thing about him — and it sucks to say — but when he got hurt, it could be the best thing that happened for his career. It means he will redshirt and sit back and walk through it this year, and if (a team) has a good plan in place for him, it could be a pretty special thing,. There’s gonna be an adjustment period for him. That offense is cut right down the middle, but that half of the field he does see it well.”

23. "S2 test -- the new Wonderlic"
In response to Reply # 0

never heard of this shit before The Athletic started pushing it in all their articles, but supposedly it can test cognitive reaction speeds

results are proprietary and sold to athletes and teams in several sports, but of course the founders (two neuroscientists) will release scores if it supports their test (ie Brock Purdy had a great score)

from The Athletic:

The exam lasts 40 to 45 minutes. It’s performed on a specially designed gaming laptop and response pad that can record reactions in two milliseconds. To put that in perspective, an eye blink lasts 100 to 150 milliseconds.

In one section of the exam, a series of diamonds flash on the screen for 16 milliseconds each. Every diamond is missing a point, and the test taker must determine — using left, right, up or down keys — which part is missing.

In another, the test seeks to find out how many objects an athlete can keep track of at the same time. In another, there are 22 figures on the screen and the athlete must locate a specific one as quickly as possible. The object might be a red triangle embedded in other shapes that are also red.

25. "re: Stroud's score "
In response to Reply # 24

“To me, that’s what flipped Young ahead of Stroud. When I saw that S2, it was brutal,” said an anonymous NFL coach. “That’s scary. Now listen, if we were in that position, I’d get him to re-take that test. Sometimes that happens. Guy gets a false read on a test, but I do believe in S2 and … well, if I believe in it and you’ve got plenty of evidence from looking at the scores and the players that you’ve coached, you can’t discount it or deny it.”

"A second NFL QB coach, a younger one whose team also isn’t likely to take a QB high this year, acknowledged that he’s “been staring at that (Stroud S2 score) for a while. But I wouldn’t say there’s a direct correlation because if there was everybody would be picking off that.”

QB coach 3: “I know when I watch him, that (low S2 score) doesn’t make sense. I was shocked when I heard he bombed it. Did he not try? He didn’t throw many picks. He didn’t have a lot of really bad split-second decisions. I just didn’t see it. He’s great going through his progressions.”

Statistics on the S2 Cognition site show that the test has a 28.7% predictability rate for a quarterback’s career passer rating, while the Wonderlic was around .01% Of course, much of that ability to process in real time is seen on the field, but if the numbers correlate with a scout’s thinking, it can only reinforce their evaluation.

White people love them some confirmation bias.

If neither the wonderlich or S2 have a significant correlation to performance then they should be tossed. Better than awful isnt good.

No can’t miss player..

Andrew Luck was overrated AF.

I swear these experts HATE when the top QB’s aren’t white.

Trying to think if there has ever been a Black QB that experts truly loved that got the “can’t miss” label.

1.) Andrew Luck was not overrated. He was worth the hype and lived up to it despite the Colts allowing him to get obliterated.

2.) They are literally saying Caleb Williams is the "Andrew Luck" of next years draft. Caleb Williams is black.

he wasn’t the second coming and failed to live up to the hype. They called him a generational QB. The next Manning or Montana. FOH.

and last year they said the 2022 draft didn’t have a “s”can’t miss Andrew Luck” like in next years draft.

They will tear Caleb’s game up before the draft just like Young and Stroud and try to hype up some random white QB

I think he's legit but he's also playing with great WR's against mickey mouse competition. at least this year they play oregon and washington.

he should prob just sit it out this year along with marv.

they are going to knock his height and competition, probably find all sorts of things as well

just the nature of the process -- next year's prospects always seem better on paper until they get hyper analyzed (remember Tank for Tua?)

48. "you are absolutely buggin about Andrew Luck."
In response to Reply # 41

He QUIT after throwing 4600 yards and 39 TDs.

he's 53 and 33 career w/ an over 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio (same ratio as Peyton).

did he live up to the hype - it's fair to say no ONLY cuz he quit early.

but you're acting like he was a bum. he was 100% on the Peyton Manning trajectory.

i don't even like Luck, so you making me take up for him stings.

and I was SHOCKED Richardson went at 4 but at least he has tape of amazing throws and runs that give that kinda makes him worthy of a team taking that gamble he will boom.

Levis looks like a Penn State QB in a Kentucky uniform.. lol. Dude was mehhh

but ESPN put Levis on a pedestal.
