"'23 NFL Championship Sunday: ...heeeeey, Joe! (c)"

Pretty cut and dry, boys...

3pm Eastern

Niners @ Eagles
Superior D line meets Superior O Line (you think you know which is which, don't you? We tricked you (c). BOTH these teams have dynamite lines!! What's it gonna come down to? QB play? Jaylen appears to be Mighty Healthy and his running ability just adds an element that you HAVE to account for. I can't call it. I certainly don't want either one to win, lol. Should be a fun game for fans of football.

630 pm Eastern

Bengals @ Chiefs
Mannnn....if Joseph Lee Burrow walks into Arrowhead and does this shit, again...wow. The Bengals, with a patchwork Oline, just did whatever they wanted to Buffalo, last week. That game could have actually looked worse. On the other side...Patrick's ankle will be the talk of the town, but I really hope he's good. He looked like he dropped down from another planet in that first drive against JAX, before the injury. If he and the Chiefs get this one done...CROWN HIS ASS! (c)

49ers are their toughest test of the season and this should be a pretty even matchup.

I give the Eagles the advantage due to:
- Playing in Philly
- Better secondary
- Purdy is a rookie (albeit a great one this far) and will face a ton of pressure from Riddick, Sweat, BG, Hargrave and Cox.

Shannahan might be the more experienced coach, but Sirianni is pretty damn gutsy as a play caller. Things could change if he gets tight though. I’m hoping that’s not the case though and the Eagles just let their nuts hang today. Expecting a good one today.

Chiefs v Bengals should be great too. Just Hope injuries don’t put one team at an extreme disadvantage over the other.

Eagles 27-24
Bengals 27-23

That Philly RPO is leaving San Fran’s LBs frozen like statues.
They don’t know who to defend, and Hurts runs it with perfection.

Any hesitation on who to go after, and it’s a wrap.

Staff doesn’t have anything to do with players getting hit.

Same thing happened to the previous QBs.

Blame that OL for the missed block that led to the Purdy hit.

Lance was a designed keeper and Jimmy G was a missed assignment but a guy that just came unchecked. Purdy was a TE on Reddick which was just a dumb scheme. SF's O-Line is actually one of the best.

How do you stop that shit?

Plus they got two number 1 receivers.

They run that shit to the weak side against San Fran’s zone defense…
as defender do you come up?

If you do, then the receiver is open for the pass

If you sit back, then either Hurts or the RB has daylight for a run.

Put CMC under center and run some type of wildcat offense

The 49ers defense took away the passes on the middle and deep.
The Eagles defense took out both of their QBs.

The score doesn't tell the tale. This was an incredibly difficult game for Philly.

Eagles got one more game to secure it all.
And we will have a dialogue.

Good luck, AFC

Watching them try and play 1 footed really sucked. CMC tried and when they got that first score you kinda thought if they could keep it low maybe they can get enough, but once Johnson was down it was a wrap. Just sad watching run after run. Could Shannahan switched to CMC, sure but i don't think it gets any better. Just all in all a shitty end to a great season. Team faced so much adversity to make it that far and have that start to a game of such magnitude. Shannahan should have also thrown the challenge flag on principal once Philly started rushing to the line on the 4th down pass to Davonta. If the WR is rushing the team down, you have to assume it was an incompletion.

Haven't read the other responses.

Basically that Niners game hinged on three plays:

1. The refs screwing up and not calling that first Eagles long pass an incomplete. Went from us getting back the ball on our 40 to setting up an Eagles TD.

2. Brock getting injured. This was the biggest blow, especially since Josh Johnson played like a deer in the headlights. Which leads to...

3. Johnson's stupid fucking fumble at the end of the first half. That was egregious, and basically ended the game. Went from potentially keeping it close at 14-10 (or at worst 14-7) to ending the half 21-7.

And then of course Josh Johnson gets fucking hurt, and the Niners have to put Purdy back in as literally a hand-off machine as a necessity.

Look, I couldn't reasonably expect the Niners to win with the fourth string QB. I don't want to be pissed at Johnson, because I'm sure he wasn't exepcting to play in the game. But man, all that anyone expected of him not screw up too badly, and he really shit the bad. Three delay of games and that fucking fumble.

So yeah, shitty way to end the season. But I'm honestly glad we made it that far.

San Fran didn’t challenge. From the regular TV angle it was a catch. It’s the same angle
that the refs saw on the sideline. It wasn’t until the review was displayed that showed the
ball being trapped by Smith.

Those plays are not automatically reviewed. Teams must challenge

San Fran did nothing. What’s the purpose of having a staff in the coaches’
box if they don’t catch that?

...the refs screwed up.

The refs made the wrong call. Then the league, for all its ballyhooed "expedited review" also missed the call.

The coach challenge is there in case both the refs and the New York offices screw up and miss the call. So, it would been nice if the coaches challenged that call, if either the refs and the league does the right thing in the first place, then that isn't necessary is it?

I was surprised they didn't challenge. It did look like a catch at first. Even though itn wasnt really catch, it was still an amazing play to even almost catch it.

KC kicked a 45 yard FG to win, 60 is technically in FG range I suppose but it’s a big different kicking a 60 yarder versus a 45 yarder in those conditions.

The QB is a runner at that point so the QB loses the normal protection.

KC probably runs one more play to try to get closer and if they didn’t get another yard they would have attempted a 60 yard FG to win the game.

coulda been incompetence? coulda not?

either way, to essentially send the opponent to the SB off of your poor decision gonna be a tough one for Ossai to live down.

Quit blaming refs for the Bengals’ fuck ups.

PIs, personal fouls, etc. They had their opportunities.

Burrow getting sacked and grounding the ball thinking he is Brady!

Refusing to scramble.

Bengals were on the MEMPHIS Griz shit

You almost have to ignore and enjoy. It’s clear that the constant polarizing narrative festival on most of the formats is meant to distract, mislead, and incite. And people are comfortably getting dumber so there’s no need for them to switch it up. And we all know that playing to the insecurities of average at best dudes is big business in general.

This shit is a cool moment that I’m not sure I think I’d live to see. I just hope they’re both at least kinda healthy in 2 weeks.

-Oline should've played better (run game and pass protection)

-Dropped two early interceptions

-got deep in the RZ twice and came out with 6 when you KNOW you gotta score TDs against KC

-Burrow's INT in the 1st half was a bad throw. The 2nd one was great defense by KC

-Mixon's less than stellar blitz pickups

-Although he was held a lot in this game, Trey usually is able to still overcome it and get pressure on the QB

-Ossai...played his ASS off in this game, but rookie* mistake.

*was injured all of last year and this is his first year playing.

-And honestly, straight up...KC wanted it more.

All in all, great season. 4 of 5 games came down to very last play of the game. All against playoff (and close to playoff: Steelers) teams. If we were a flash in a pan team I'd be emotional lol. But knowing were going to stick around for some years eases the sting of this loss.

-that last drive, after Joe's pass from the endzone he got hit and knocked to the ground late. Had that been Pat, he gets that call

-the visible block in the back on the last punt return. It was in the middle of everybody's tv screen

-on the last scramble both Hill and Hendrickson were held trying to get to Mahomes, but it would've been negated because of what Ossai did.

But, as I said. We convert those two deep RZ TDs it probably wouldn't have gotten to that point.

..Can't really blame Pratt for being emotional immediately after that loss (in the wake of the penalty).

There are a handful of moments like that in every close game that could greatly impact the outcome. Ossai clearly made a rookie mistake at the most pivotal moment.

Pratt's comments after that video went viral demonstrate that he was merely venting and that it wasn't personal.

IMO, its time to reconsider the rules regarding QBs who transition to runners on the field of play.

Both feet were already out of bounds, and then the push
was given. That’s a personal foul any way you look at it.

It was an unnecessary roughness penalty on a runner.
It was a clear late hit.

In my mind, there is nothing special about the end of the game. Points are points.
That roughing the passer penalty didn't lose them the game any more than any of the other mistakes made throughout the game.

there's a good chance he gets another play or two and still gets them in position cuz it just seems like that's how shit goes.

one of the dumber decisions was not punting that last punt to the sideline and not letting them get a return. they probably don't get in FG range if they just do that.

If another yard wasn’t gained it would have been a 60 yard FG.

That was a terrible punt, no hang time at all and not directional.

That's a devastating injury for a QB. Damn. If it's fully torn he's going to have to get a Tommy John reconstruction. That could be at least a year to be back at full strength.

Man that's brutal. This dude may never get another shot and his arm may never be the same either. Brutal.

Football QBs use a different throwing motion and have a different grip.
The 6 month time frame is in regards to the Tommy John surgery. That’s how long it
will take if he goes with it.

It’s not as serious for football players. He will be ready to go next season even
if he goes with the surgery…should have a full recovery by July/August.

Jake Delhomme went through the same thing when he was with the Panthers
and had the same time frame….full recovery.

Jake Delhomme never was the same after that. I'm not sure of any other QB's that have had it.

I think Carson Palmer was going to but didn't?

Either way it's not anything to bet on for sure as far a full recovery although I hope he makes it back 100%.

I’m talking about the recovery time. Jake was up and fully recovered for the
start of the next season.

It’s not a long recovery process for football players.

A pitcher throwing a football just to warm up has nothing to do with
the differences in mechanics. They are completely different.

“Pitchers arms move at a higher speed than a quarterbacks which adds more stress to the decelerating muscles that tend to get injured. You could also say throwing a football puts your arm in better alignment than throwing a baseball does. You don't see many quarterbacks who hyper abduct their arm when they throw.”

https://www.letstalkpitching.com/t/pitchers-vs-quarterbacks/11234

Pitchers throw more downward with extreme velocity which puts stress and
pressure on the elbow, which is why so many pitchers have elbow issues compared
to QB. Throwing a football is more of a natural motion than throwing a baseball.
Purdy got injured from a hit, and so did Jake’s ( I believe).

This is actually self explanatory. You can immediately tell the difference when you
throw one compared to the other. There is more stress on the elbow when throwing
a baseball compared to throwing a football. Your arm is more aligned and it’s more
of an upward angle with throwing a football

Pitching motion is more violent and aggressive.

And I'm speaking from experience here.

Also, you kind of answered why it is done in trying to say why they do not. You think that when a pitcher warms up or throws between starts it's all max effort?

It is a way to keep the arm conditioned without the stress.

152. "Tyler Huntley selected as Pro Bowl replacement despite starting 4 games...."
In response to Reply # 151

https://sports.yahoo.com/ravens-qb-tyler-huntley-selected-as-pro-bowl-replacement-despite-starting-4-games-141707965.html

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley is heading to the Pro Bowl despite starting just four games in 2022.

Huntley was named as a Pro Bowl replacement for Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen on Tuesday. Allen is scheduled to play in the pro-am during the PGA Tour event at Pebble Beach this weekend.

Tools that turn into titles
Huntley’s inclusion into the Pro Bowl sure is odd given his limited playing time and lack of eye-popping stats. But it’s also not a surprise given the way that alternate voting for the Pro Bowl went in December. Huntley was voted the No. 4 alternate for the game despite just making two starts at the time of the voting.

The third-year QB’s inclusion in the Pro Bowl festivities comes after he filled in for an injured Lamar Jackson for the second straight season. Huntley completed two-thirds of his passes for 658 yards and two TDs and three interceptions in 2022. In 2021, Huntley was 122-of-188 passing for 1,081 yards and three TDs and four interceptions. He’s also rushed for over 400 yards and three TDs over 13 games in the past two seasons and also started the Ravens' playoff loss to the Bengals earlier in January.

Why Huntley was named to the Pro Bowl
Voting for Pro Bowl alternates takes place after the teams for the Pro Bowl are announced. That voting is done by players, who have sometimes been known to vote for their teammates and friends instead of the players who may actually be the most deserving.

The three original AFC QBs named to the Pro Bowl weekend were Allen, the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and the Bengals’ Joe Burrow. The alternates voted in were Tua Tagovailoa, Trevor Lawrence, Jackson and Huntley, in that order.

Tagovailoa is unable to participate in the Pro Bowl weekend because he’s reportedly still in concussion protocol. Lawrence was named as the replacement for Mahomes since the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl. And with Jackson still recovering from the knee injury that sidelined him for the conclusion of the 2022 season, Huntley was the next man up to play in the game with Allen on the golf course.

Who should have gone to the game over Huntley?
There’s no disputing that Huntley’s selection to the Pro Bowl is weird. But the list of qualified quarterbacks who could have been picked over Huntley isn’t as deep as you may think.

The Chargers Justin Herbert would be an obvious choice but he just had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left non-throwing shoulder. Without Herbert, Tagovailoa and Jackson available as alternates, the next-best options for the AFC are players like the Broncos’ Russell Wilson and the Raiders’ Derek Carr. Wilson’s first season in Denver was a massive bust, and Carr was benched for the final two games of the season as the Raiders decided they wanted to move on.

The Patriots’ Mac Jones threw just 14 TDs in 14 games while Indianapolis QB Matt Ryan threw the same number of TDs in 12 games. Davis Mills threw for more yards than both Jones or Ryan, but also threw a league-leading 15 interceptions and the Texans were 3-10-1 in his starts.

With all of that context in mind, Huntley’s selection doesn’t look as egregious. And it’s also a great thing for him. He now can say he’s a Pro Bowl quarterback and that’s not a bad thing to have on your resume when you’re entering free agency for the first time.

Wilson, Jones, Mills, etc. All "deserved" more by the simple fact of actually playing. Hell, Jacoby Brissett played better. Really, it should have been Kenny Pickett

it's been wack for years, but I read EVEN LESS players like to go than before, because at least back in the day they got a free trip to Hawaii. No matter how the NFL tries to tweak it, it's still some shit. Now, it's fucking flag football with Peyton and Eli as the coaches. Who the fuck they think wants to watch that??? I'd rather watch Pistons/Rockets on League Pass than that shit. I honestly think that last Pro Bowl game I watched even a part of was like 2013 and T.O. was in it.
