"2022 NFL Reg Season Week 18: Familiarity Breeds Contempt"

First of all...latest report is Damar Hamlin is awake and holding the hands of his family members. Keep fighting, young man.

I legit started this post off muscle memory, because it's Thursday morning. No game tonight...but some Saturday games. We got a slew of division games this weekend and a good number of them will have division and overall seeding implications. On to the games, gents.

Saturday

Chiefs @ Raiders

Titans @ Jags (good old fashioned winner takes all)

Sunday

Early

Browns @ Steelers (Pittsburgh needs a lot to happen for them to get in, but damn am I pulling for them)

Ravens @ Bengals

Vikes @ Bears (Justin Fields out. Bears get #1 pick with a loss to the Vikes and a Texans win @ Indy)

Pats @ Bills

Jets @ Dolphins

Bucs @ Falcons (who even plays for Tampa?)

Panthers @ Saints

Texans @ Colts

Late

Cards @ Niners

Boys @ Commanders (Sam Howell starting, The Lizard on backup and Wentz inactive)

Rams @ Hawks

Giants @ Eagles (God help me...I'm a Giants' fan)

Chargers @ Broncos

SNF (FLEXED)

Lions @ Packers

...I'm from the era when A.I. was the answer, now they think ai is the answer - Marlon Craft

I would take some of this with a grain of salt, some of that info has been addressed or is inaccurate. Specifically in Damar's situation the NFL has said it would cover his medical bills going forward, and some of the disability statistics given are not correct.

Based on what you shared, his point still stands. But if someone makes a bold statement, it needs to be backed up by accurate facts.

2. "Perhaps its time to consider rescheduling the bye week..."
In response to Reply # 0
Thu Jan-05-23 02:20 PM by CyrenYoung

..at the close of the regular season.

I know traditionalist will likely frown at the idea of losing the leverage that was typically awarded to teams with the best record in their respective conference, but its fairly obvious that health is more important. Teams will still be incentivized to earn home field at advantage. Leaving a week open btwn the regular season and the start of the playoffs gives the NFL the opportunity to handle unforeseen circumstances (like the cancelled Bengals/Bills game).

*Some may argue that the current bye week format should not be abandoned, but that format unfairly favors teams with bye weeks scheduled later in the season. This new proposal removes the unfair advantage randomly created by playing musical chairs throughout the season.

What say you?

back and allow the game to take place during that bye week. All the other
teams would be allowed to rest before their PO game, where as the Bills/Bengals
would go straight into their PO game without having a week off.

And then there is the risk of players getting injured prior to their scheduled PO
game. Towards the end of the season, most players are hurting and aching from
having to endure a long season, so rest and recuperation are of the utmost
importance to make a deep PO run.

not as a solution to this season

..you are correct, I'm referring to moving forward. Its clear that the game will likely be cancelled altogether.

*For the sake of clarity (allStah lol):

MOVING FORWARD, the league would ditch the current "bye week" randomized format (henceforth known as musical chairs) and simply make the bye week available to everyone at the close of the regular season. This new format ensures that there's no competitive advantage given (esp considering the current system employed) and everyone still gets the benefit of a week off to prepare for the playoffs. Teams are still incentivized because home-field advantage is still in play.

The current Bye Week format is dated and could use improvement. Why not use this moment to resolve a long-standing issue and ensure that you never have to worry about making up a game that's called for unforeseen circumstances?

I think only option would be to get rid of the bye week before the SB, doubt they want that tho either. And even then, would be up to the Bills and Bengals if would want to play an extra weekend and move playoffs back. Bills getting a win, a bye and home field might be incentive enough but a loss would do nothing for them. I also read an idea of a neutral field for AFC championship game, not sure that makes sense tho.

I never said a word about pushing to do so this year, to salvage anything regarding the current scenario. I spoke about improving the current format for scheduling, to better handle things like this moving forward.

• Everyone gets a bye week, avoiding any possible competitive advantage.
• The Shield has a week to advertise/celebrate teams that made the playoffs, similar to the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

More importantly, the Shield can still generate revenue, without adding games to the schedule, creating more excitement around the playoffs, with wiggle room to mitigate any unforeseen circumstances.

but the Jets winning in Miami? tough but not impossible, especially if Miami is playing its 3rd string QB.

In response to Reply # 0

like all of the other major sports.

home field is advantage enough. and they already got rid of 1 teams bye week. just get rid of the remaining one and give us 2 extra games the 1st weekend.

it makes it more exciting to have a #1 seed possibly get knocked off by a #8 underdog each year too. plus makes games at the end of the season more meaningful to more teams (and betting activity lol).

hopefully whatever they end up doing to resolve all of this gets the ball moving in that direction for future playoffs.

This is a reasonable compromise to me. Not saying it's perfect, but this is better than just letting KC get the 1 seed if they beat the Raiders Saturday. Obviously KC would still get the bye.

He continues to get offers with less guaranteed money than Watson and other 'just got paid' folks, hot take-a-mania continues on, and, depending on how ticked he is about it, he goes elsewhere. I hope he doesn't LeVeon Bell himself. AKA go somewhere to get more money only to end up in a somehow worse situation offensively AND get the average bro/lame talk show hate thrown on him if/when him and his new team are less successful than him and his prior run in Baltimore.

If the Ravens weren't dead set on giving him WRs who kinda obviously aren't good, my take would be for him to get as much money in Baltimore as he can, stay, and at least keep being competitive.

Cleveland needed something to hook him and keep him away from places like Seattle, Atlanta and other warm weather cities in the southeast that were interested. I think the only way Cleveland got him was the guaranteed money.

I feel like B-more's offer will be smaller this offseason, he may end up wishing he'd taken some of those bigger offers that they gave him earlier.

He doesnt fit the normal criteria for a bust. But if you base it on hype and draft number, dude has been a "maybe one day we'll see it" his entire career. He played opposite JJ Watt and Myle Garrett and still never lived up to the hype or hit double digit sacks. He was supposed to be what Micah Parsons and Myles Garrett actually are.

Fair enough, but given the circumstances that lead to this, not a great look for the Bengals org. They’d have my sympathy if the game was cancelled due to extreme weather or COVID protocols or something like that.

if the Chiefs win out you think they want to play to AFC championship at a "neutral site"?

Probably not. But there’s a difference between what people want and what they complain about publicly. I thought, maybe naively so, that the Bengals would keep any complaints in-house, given the circumstances that led to the game cancellation. They didn’t, and I think it’s a bad look.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

these are people with their careers on the line

either cancel the season and we can do a prayer circle instead of the playoffs, or continue under the rules that were in place when he collapsed

why should anyone need to tiptoe around that?

I talk about this all the time offline. There are not 32 'good' NFL QBs.

So once you start having to get backups, 3rd string, practice squad, and/or off the couch folks, your results are gonna vary like crazy. We gotta think, the Colts were just holding onto random ass Nick Foles!

you gotta stretch the DBs there. you can't call a play where all the routes go 15 yards deep.

right when he threw it i said "you can't do that" out loud.

just saying the play call only left him that, or a throw that's likely batted down or worse.

but, honestly, Titans losing 7 in a row is more the cause of missing the playoffs than Josh Dobbs. Dobbs did about as good as you can expect a 4th round QB who isn't really a "passer" making his 2nd start, to do.

Chiefs only have a better record because they have the extra game. Chiefs and Bills have the same amount of losses, but the Bills beat the Chiefs earlier this year. Bills were the one seed before the events of last week and the canceled game

I don't think it's a harder division. Chargers are better team than any Bills face. Jets suck so do Broncos, Raiders and Pats about even. Dolphins are not looking like they did early at all. Guess see if Bills beat Pats today too or it don't matter at all.

You know why Ron is doing this. If the Green Lizard would beat Dallas today, there would be a call for his job come Monday. But just go out there and throw in the towel.

He seems like a good dude but that decision should cost him his job. Made absolutely zero sense.

My theory is that it came from upstairs, aka Danny because going back to a QB that has been thoroughly outperformed is baffling. It also seems like the players doesn't rock with Wentz.

cuz, i want the better draft picks, but honestly, i hate Aaron Rodgers SO MUCH, that i want ya'll to be super motivated to win.

plus, Detroit deserves the playoffs more than us. if we're not a true chip contender? gimme the better draft picks and let Detroit be motivated to go kick Rodgers ass vs. us MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYBE losing in the first round vs. SF.

they were right to call you out. are you playing franchise mode on madden or are you a hawks fan? rooting for your team to not make the playoffs?! red flag, fan status under review, back after this word from our sponsors...

Steeler fans didn’t want to make the playoffs because we could lose badly to the Bills

the fuck type of thinking is that?

reality is most people who think like this are just pessimist who are afraid of getting their little feewings hurt.

Draft is a crap shoot too but fans swear that first pick is the key to their SB run next year.

****************
TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

so yeah, i'd rather have better draft picks than a short playoff appearance THIS year.

we could be SB contenders next two years w/ the right picks in the draft. easier to get the right guys w/ better picks.

it's that simple, and not "anti-my-team."

i'm playing GM mode.

and again, i think w/ Detroit going on the road and beating Rodgers vs. us limping to an OT win vs. a bad and injured team, and we have the same record? to me, the Lions were more deserving of that spot (and they've been playing better of late overall).

but hey, whatever. i'm fine being different/wrong/whatever people think.

I think you mean 2nd and 4th down. 3rd down was just a basic run play that got 2 yards.

Going for it there was the right call. Get it and win, if Rodgers gets the ball back he still has to score a TD with no timeouts and only 1:10 left on the clock.

I know.. we needed to control our own destiny but these fools went with Flacco over Zach Wilson.

I mean, I know why.. Wilson plays well and its an offseason of “QB controversy” or maybe lying to yourself that he might be an option but come the fuck on.. you really didn’t want to spoil your division foes chances at the playoffs?

this some “off white alliance” and shit to get McDaniel in the playoffs?

I’m actually happy af at seeing this Steeler team finish strong. Bodes well for next year and keeps the Tomlin haters mad AF all offseason for not having the first losing season. They just knew Tomlin would miss Ben. FOH.

Mike White outplayed that dude. Wilson will be lucky to hold a clipboard for a NFC bottom feeder going forward

that other .1% are racist POS’s but yeah… most of them are Steeler fans who have no idea that .500 or better is Tomlin’s floor and its his first year without Ben who overstayed his welcome.

Rumor has it Tomlin wanted to love on from Ben a few years ago when it was obvious he was long in the tooth and we could’ve probably suckered a
GM into a Watson type trade.

Our FO is loyal and let him go out his way which meant shitty offense and hella INT’s in the playoffs.

The might as well called this article "NFL pushed for Bills/Bengals game to continue"

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

The NFL is trying to make it seem like they never considered restarting the game. This points the finger at Buck for misinformation. Buck pointed it back at the NFL saying that this is where he got his info from.

Someone lying.

(I don't dislike him as much as most), he's not letting himself get dump-trucked by the NFL on this one.

online fucks us all.

The way I'm pushing to treat this thing: the kid walked out of the hospital and is recovering. The game ended up canceled however it happened. Now we've had a full week of games and we're onto the NFL playoffs. Like always, the divisional week is setting up to be bonkers.

ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE is background stuff that the NFL needs to make sure they're working on, tweaking, and fixing. And that about it.
