NFL aside, he's made his name rebuilding programs after they've wandered the wilderness.

Plus, with his NFL experience, he can sell young men on his knowledge of building them into NFL-caliber players.

For me though, if I was getting $34M to do nothing, I'd pull an Orgeron and hideaway on an island for a couple of years and collect a check.

coaching is becoming a young man's game and he can't afford to let younger guys pass him up, this Nebraska job might be the best one he's going to get. Orgeron is in his 60's and might be done as a big time head coach, I could see him getting a DC job in the NFL

Good point about the change in hiring trends leading ADs toward younger coaches. Most of the coaches in this cycle are fairly young. Even with Ruhle's experience and track record, some ADs might prefer the young shiny-new-object.

He'd probably be one of the top choices next year too. But there may not be a job next year that has the potential NU has.

When I was in Cali the last thing I wanted to was be in front of a tv all day watching football in other parts of the country where it’s cold it’s not as much to do lol

Michigan and Ohio State have a ton of alumni and fans out on the west coast, they certainly care.

Besides, it isn’t about the fans but TV ratings and I’m sure Fox would much rather see this game being played at 6pm EST and 3pm PST to get as many eyes on this game as possible.

They don’t need them. ucla and usc came to them because the PAC 12 is a sinking
ship.

USC and UCLA went to the Midwest to make more money and to get more exposure…
because they are not getting that by simply playing on the west or against
west coast teams.

Hell, Californians don’t even care about football like that …it’s Hollywood.

Imagine Alabama or Georgia moving to the PAC 12….both states would start
a civil war!

Who dominates the POs every year? Big 10 and the SEC….no one is even thinking
or cares about a west coast team being in it or not. West coast has been irrelevant for
over a decade.

And college is still making billions

michigan ran all those -1, 0, 1 yd plays with stokes and now Edwards is a whole different beast

this is why Michigan has killed people in the second half. they just get sick of getting blocked like that.

Got thrashed by ND and getting exposed again by SC..
I would rather see LSU

Michigan is known for their running attack…but their passing game is ripping
OSU apart….this is sad

Day’s squads flash moments of brilliance but often look clunky and easily bogged down on offense.

This team hadn’t played a complete game all season. It was right there for the taking early on in this game.

UM did an incredible job of limiting Harrison JR in the 2nd half. Harrison seemed off this game - especially with that boneheaded PI that really could’ve led to an ejection. I’ve seen players get ejected for less severe and intentional helmet to helmet hits.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day will have had likely first round picks Justin Fields, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., TreVeyon Henderson, Chase Young, and Jeff Okudah... and has one Playoff win and zero national titles to show for it.

Those UGA wins over Oregon and Tenn aren't all that impressive now

Michigan's wins over PSU and OSU are better...

but UGA is still the best team probably so there's that..

They’re undefeated and coming off a championship season in which they steamrolled Michigan in the playoffs. Until Michigan beats them or wins the championship, nah.

Also, as much as I love PSU, that’s not a great win. Unless Purdue is now ranked, PSU didn’t beat a ranked team this season. They got a nice team and can take care of average opponents, but are hardly an elite team to be feared.

I will say this, Michigan was clearly the best team in the Big 10 and should be #2 heading into the CFP (assuming they take care of Purdue).

stay #1. They’ve been #1 pretty much all season and should remain there - assuming they take care of business next week. The fact that GA won the championship last year and the SEC is 14-5 in the CFP (vs the Big 10’s 3-5 record)is kind of an inescapable fact that would influence my decision if I had a vote. If I genuinely felt Michigan was the better and more accomplished team, then of course I’d put them at #1. It really doesn’t matter though as they’ll be able to settle the debate on the field.

and this is why a popularity contest tournament is fucking stupid. because you are clearly influenced by things that didnt happen on the field this year, and thats THE only source of information that should have any bearing.

im glad I have a chance to watch Michigan play 3 more times, but even if they win its still a fake championship. at least they would be the last undefeated team i guess.

I’ve stated clearly that I believe GA should be #1. Not bc they beat Michigan and won the National title last year, but bc they are the best team in the country this year…period. With a win over LSU next week, their body of work is stronger than Michigan’s. Are you trying to tell me that I’m only choosing to rank GA ahead of Michigan bc of last year?

Popularity contest? Wtf are you talking about? Michigan is more popular than UGA and their popularity has been a big reason why their ranking is so often inflated (not this year though) in the polls. Popularity is how Notre Dame often gets inflated rankings too. CFB has historically been a popularity contest. At least 4 teams get a crack at the title and chance to prove it on the field.

Fake championship? I’m not sure what you’re referring to there….

clear. You want or think that past performance should have zero impact on how people rank teams. I call bs. It has some level of influence - especially in CFB where the top teams from each major conference rarely play each other.

Georgia is the only sure shot.

I’m not sure who should get in at number 4….USC( lol)

And then Michigan and USC have to play championship games, where
both teams could lose.

DJ Ukele went 8-29 for 99 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception. It is hard for anyone to win a game when your QB has a stat like like that. In fact, I am surprised the game was even close.

And it’s surprising to hear OSU fans jump on that line too. A co-worker and good friend of mine who is a die hard OSU fan, happened to be at the game yesterday. She was shocked at how vile the crowd was towards Day and the players in general. But back to the line…

While Jim was an accomplished football player, let’s not act like he didn’t benefit from immense privilege. He graduated from Palo Alto HS…I mean, c’mon. His dad was a pretty accomplished coach, who undoubtedly connected his kids. All of Jim’s kids have been hooked up with great coaching gigs. Jim went to a blue-chip, all-time top 5 college football program (albeit underperforming) with immense resources. He’s now living up to the hype, but it took him quite awhile to get there with Michigan.

Ryan Day lost his father at a very young age. Jim would know nothing about that kind of adversity and trauma. Day worked his way up the coaching ladder as many do. He got a huge break as he worked/played under Chip Kelly at UNH, but his situation is not unlike so many other young coaches we see get hired all the time. And yes, he stepped into an incredibly great position, but it’s not like he’s entirely pissing away his opportunities. Michigan was clearly the better team this year. Maybe Day isn’t the right guy for OSU, but firing a guy with a 45-5 record is setting quite the precedent.

we didn’t pry him away from anywhere.

The fact that we just let urban decide his successor without a coaching search is so asinine to me

Besides …. Jim Harbaugh cut his teeth at San Diego and Stanford (where he pulled off one of the greatest CFB upsets with far inferior talent (sound familiar ?) when they beat USC

Not even close .

Ryan Day has got destroyed at home by Oregon, got his ass beat twice by Harbaugh (after talking mad shit) , and is 2-2 in the CFB playoff. He’s completely shattered the identity of this team by instilling this soft ass bitch made spread passing attack where the QB isn’t allowed to run. Idgaf about his recruiting if he can’t instill discipline and some mental toughness in his players .

it was *supposedly* said in a private big 10 coaches teleconference during the covid year.

again, supposedly.

the idea that that's somehow akin to putting something in print or airing out live during a press conference is pretty funny. but if this is the type of nonsense fodder y'all need to rationalize the antics of your loony tunes coach or the tunnel nonsense, stomping on opposing teams midfield and flag planting and all that classy stuff then have it.

and truth is, osu prob does hang near hundred if the game was played in 2020. but one side didnt show up.

you said that harbaugh's classless and antagonizing remarks were justified because of some dumb propaganda you were fed about Day 'running his mouth when he first took the job'. that's a rationalization. we can't just call a spade a spade that harbaugh is a classless sore loser/bad winner. he provokes and antagonizes then plays the victim.

yes, that was totally antagonistic. im not saying it wasnt. i also dont see the problem. if you think im going to condemn Michigan's coach for making a very benign comment in response to Ryan Day apparently feeling himself a little too much...thats not going to happen. acting like Harbaugh crossed some sort of moral and ethical Rubicon with that comment is absurd, and its funny that anyone could have a problem with it. its not like he put up a sign in the football building to mock OSU players' academic pursuits.

what gymnastics? they were charged with crimes. words are words, violence is violence.

to the best of my knowledge, UM hasnt taken an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty all year. MSU took 2 vs Michigan. OSU took 2 vs Michigan. did Harbaugh make them do that too?

>nothing about the covid year means anything to me. they
>should have cancelled every game.

LOL. so day's unverified comments which you claim were made upon his hiring were real but the football that was played on the field in 2020 wasn't. like I have no idea if this is some epic backtracking or just straight up gaslighting but either way it's hilarious. just because you didn't include the memories from that season in your personal scrapbook doesn't mean it didn't happen. and that mich didn't not choose to not show up for the game.

>yes, that was totally antagonistic. im not saying it wasnt.
>i also dont see the problem. if you think im going to condemn
>Michigan's coach for making a very benign comment in response
>to Ryan Day apparently feeling himself a little too
>much...thats not going to happen. acting like Harbaugh
>crossed some sort of moral and ethical Rubicon with that
>comment is absurd, and its funny that anyone could have a
>problem with it. its not like he put up a sign in the
>football building to mock OSU players' academic pursuits.

so it was antagonistic but also benign? uhhh ok.

I said nothing about morality which as far as im concerned doesn't exist in cfb. you regurgitated mich messageboard propaganda about day's supposed comments as justification for harbaugh's classless bad winner comments and faux victimhood schtick. so i corrected you.

I never asked you to condemn anything. root for whatever classless and antagonizing garbage you want. but at least deal in reality about what it is. instead of the cult hero worship and never ending vicitmization and blame deflection about CRIMES! and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches lol.

enough time has passed that if those comments werent made, there would have been some denial of some sort from somewhere. it happened, and it got shoved back in his face in a way i find humorous.

and i didnt say it wasnt real, i said i dont care.

as you can see, my current position is quite consistent with my position from 2 and a half years ago.

>so it was antagonistic but also benign? uhhh ok.

well yeah. it wasnt an attack on his goddamn humanity. it was sports trash talk. when Larry Bird said "Merry fuckin Christmas" to Chuck Person was that antagonistic? yes. was it malicious, insulting, or mean? no. the two words arent mutually exclusive antonyms.

>I said nothing about morality which as far as im concerned

the reality is that its all trash talk, which seemed to be fine for everyone when Michigan was lost in the wilderness. now that Michigan is back to dropping bombs on people and having the temerity to have a laugh about it, im supposed to do what exactly? pretend to be offended? tsk tsk at Jim Harbaugh?

yes, he trash talked Ryan Day and I dont give a fuck. no one else seems to either. he's apparently enough of a sportsman to coach his team not to do unsportsmanlike things during games or get physical with other teams outside of the lines or attempt to belittle the academics of opposing players. thats good enough for me.

>enough time has passed that if those comments werent made

I don't see why Day would need to publicly refute private comments that only harbaugh worshippers and mich messageboard propagandists would possibly care about. should Day have called a joint presser with the AD and press to address this in true OSU PR nightmare fashion?

>and it got shoved back in his face in a way i
>find humorous.

you find it humorous because you've lied to yourself about it and distorted/omitted events

>and i didnt say it wasnt real, i said i dont care.

you arbitrarily not caring about something because it doesn't fit your agenda isnt a valid argumentative stance lol

>the two words arent
>mutually exclusive antonyms.

they actually are. something that's benign doesnt have a sliding scale. if you wanna say that harbarugh's remarks about Day weren't wildly inflammatory then you're entitled to that opinion. And maybe that would have some validity if his inciting and antagonizing comments were made in isolation. but its never ending. and if you wanna cheer these comments/antics on that's great (but hypocritical given the never ending self righteous moralizing from your fanbase) but at least own it for what it is instead of blame deflecting. and dont yell about CRIMES! when other coaches and kids get pissed off and things expectedly boil over.

>i think the standards of sportsmanship have risen dramatically
>over the last 53 weeks

dont know what this means

>the reality is that its all trash talk, which seemed to be
>fine for everyone when Michigan was lost in the wilderness.

except there was no trash talk when he was losing he just crawls into a hole and complains about officiating because he's always a victim.

>now that Michigan is back to dropping bombs on people and
>having the temerity to have a laugh about it, im supposed to
>do what exactly? pretend to be offended? tsk tsk at Jim
>Harbaugh?

again, no one asked you to be offended or condemn anything. I've already explained this so not gonna repeat myself.

>yes, he trash talked Ryan Day and I dont give a fuck. no one

>to coach his team not to do unsportsmanlike things during

am I really going to have to get on some petty shit and start mentioning the 'unsportsmanlike' things that have occurred/are occurring under harbaugh or incidents that you have copped pleas for? because that seems like a waste of key strokes.

or responding to. he's a weirdo.

he came to mich loud af and supposedly had saban and the sec running scared with his satellite camps and rah rah nonsense and of course he went quiet as a mouse when getting his face kicked in on a yearly basis. he won one game against osu in 6 tries (after mich as a program had spent the past 20 years losing) and went right back to flapping his gums and antagonizing in the absolute classless fashion that he owns. he's a sore loser and a bad winner. and for such a tough guy running a tough guy program he cowardly ducked that 2020 game he had no chance of winning and used covid as an excuse. that game would've most likely ended with his firing.

I said a long time ago that harb is the cfb version of trump and that rings true more than ever. he complains endlessly. he incites and antagonizes and then plays the victim card. and deflects blame for absolutely everything. he'll take another playoff drubbing and will go back to babbling about whatever. who cares. if he wasn't a rich kid who could throw a football he'd be babbling on a sidewalk somewhere.

also funny that he probably only made that third base comment because he thought he was riding off into the sunset as the vikings coach but the nfl once again said thanks but no thanks.

>And it’s surprising to hear OSU fans jump on that line too.

a lot of trump supporters in the osu fan base so that schtick works i guess. I don't think Day is the guy for OSU and his lack of HC experience is showing, but never in a million years would I be parroting any nonsense coming from that weirdo in AA.

Michigan had the better team this year. I didn’t think the game would turn in that direction, but it didn’t surprise me to see Michigan win. I think they’ve built the most dominant line on both sides of the ball in the Big 10 and play the best team defense. PSU had no chance with Michigan, but I thought had a very legit chance to beat OSU. There were warning signs leading up to this game. Just didn’t expect McCarthy to make those throws and for OSU DBs to struggle that much in man coverage. And of course, Stroud was abysmal in the 2nd half.

I’m sure Day’s seat is getting warm with 2 consecutive losses to Michigan, but OSU’s program is still in a great place and he’s doing a decent enough job. This is hardly a Luke Fickell situation.

HFA has always been critical in the psu/mich games

but ironically I was texting w/a friend of mine during the game yesterday and early on when things were going well i kept telling my friend i had a bad feeling because this was playing out exactly like the psu game. where osu had multiple chances to put the game away early but either settled for fg's or the offense tightened up and stalled out on drives and as a result let psu stay in the game.

osu was up 10-3 early in the first half against psu and faced a critical 3rd and 1. if osu goes up 17-3 it's probably curtains for clifford and psu. they get stuffed because osu is the most awkward short yardage team ive ever seen, has no real offensive identity, and a qb who is unwilling to run for some tough yards. osu punts and psu busts a long td off a missed tackle and all of a sudden we have a ballgame.

osu was up 10-3 early again yesterday. they were controlling the game, running the ball well and from where I was sitting both sides of the line were really asserting themselves. osu drove down the field and had the ball in mich territory and they go for it on 4th and 2. low percentage pass play to the TE and they fail to convert. next drive you get 3rd and long and mich busts a td off a poor tackling effort.

all this stuff about 'softness' just feels like a lazy cliched talking point. but i will say that Day's osu teams have lacked a killer instinct and despite their large talent advantages are unable to put teams away early. their offense gets clunky with poor execution, play calling, and penalties. this goes back to 2019 in the playoff game against clemson when they had the chance to run clemson out of the building in the first half but missed on some huge opportunities and let the game slip away.

3xk is right he won’t be fired , TOSU AD gene smith rewards mediocrity and doing the bare minimum

As long as his recruiting is ok, and he wins 10 games a year his cowardly ass is safe

His seat isn’t even remotely hot

This dummy really punted on 4th and 5 w a heisman candidate qb , losing in the 4th at home in a playoff deciding game after seeing his defense get gouged all game long

I’m still stunned

Even conservative ass Tressel would have gone for it

OSU (gene isn't pulling the strings) backstabbed tress and gave a mega contract to the biggest name out there and a win at all costs guy in urban.

the defense the past 2 seasons was a disaster* so they gave 2 mil to Knowles to run the show.

OSU seems pretty invested in winning.

It's just not a rational move to fire Day right now and something like that could backfire horribly. But you have Hartline who looks like a HC in waiting but same deal with Day in that he has no HC experience. And I have no idea if Vrabel would come back to college but that's a name I would throw out there. Other than that there aren't any obvious choices waiting in the wings.

*Day's hiring of Coombs was by far the most fireable thing he's done since he's been here

9.5 million a year for what? getting humiliated by Oregon and Michigan at home and barely beating Utah in the Rose Bowl? I didn't agree with it then.

>the defense the past 2 seasons was a disaster* so they gave 2
>mil to Knowles to run the show.

I was never impressed with that hire tbh, the big 12 might be worse than the big 10 and isn't exactly known for elite defense either, his team performed well defensively against the sisters of the poor in Americas praireland but gave up huge runs and plays in the most important game of the year. Dude should be paid in Subway sandwiches and bus fare.

I know he won't be fired now, but I think it's just delaying the inevitable. He's lost the fan base.

this is THE worst loss in the 100-year-old history of the Shoe. Period.

>*Day's hiring of Coombs was by far the most fireable thing
>he's done since he's been here

I would say it's the complete abandonment of the running QB aspect of this offense. Even the NFL is making use of dual-threat mobile elusive QBs.

This season was NOT fun at all, even when we won it felt like we always could have done better. This team would get murdered by UGA and maybe even TCU.

Just soft (as in mentally weak, easily goaded into personal foul penalties and being distracted from the play) and undisciplined all around (all the penalties, miscues, dropped balls)

>I was never impressed with that hire tbh

regardless of whether you liked the hire or not they were aggressive in improving the program and signing the checks to make it happen. I think bailing on knowles after one game is beyond reactionary. the defense did improve quite a bit this year and was far better than the tire fire of the past 2 seasons. they weren't gonna turn into the '85 bears overnight. Day on the other hand...

>but I think it's just delaying
>the inevitable.

I don't disagree with this as it's trending in a very bad direction and the fanbase is going bonkers, lol. but you cant make a move without a legitimate replacement available.

how the next month or so plays out in terms of what post season game they get and how they perform could be interesting...

I was legit SHOCKED at that play call. Y’all have the BEST wide receiver in the country with a top 2 QB in the country and we were NOT able to stop them. If I was calling plays for OSU I’d be straight up going video game mode throwing it up to MH every other play. And Day punts on fourth down in Michigan territory? I couldn’t believe it.

I had fake punt thoughts when I saw them line up. I’ll have to go back and watch, I wonder if there was something in the Michigan punt return scheme pre-snap that showed they were ready for a fake also, and they audibled back to an actual punt?

In response to Reply # 141

fucking this up was a way more egregious gaffe than had Day actually chosen to punt. OSU only netted 13 yards on this punt because the punter didn't even know the ball was coming to him and was lucky to get the touchback instead of it being blocked.

https://twitter.com/rossrfulton/status/1597227040595644416?s=42&t=7bJc1ffURYWRJ1SC2XPaSg

“We got so lucky,” Harbaugh said. “They had a fake on. And they had us. I mean they had us cold. We were prepared for it. We knew the fake was coming just by the personnel that was there. We had four practices, four meetings. And not one of us saw it. Nobody on the field saw it, and they had us cold.

“I think their snapper snapped to the wrong guy, snapped it to the punter instead of to the faker, but it would have been a huge gain. We got extremely lucky. They actually were going for it and would have pulled off a big fourth-down conversion. We're kicking ourselves for not identifying it like we should have. We got super lucky.

“It’s not a question of coaching decision. They had decided – had it really wired to work. We had it wired to stop. We could have really stopped it. And then when they did snap it to their punter, we really should have blocked it.”

But this whole pro style spread where the qb absolutely refuses to run will not work at Ohio State , we’ve had a tradition of mobile ASIATIC qbs that goes back to the 1970s w Cornelius Greene

I’m tired of plays like this ending in incomplete passes or a stupid ass check down for a 2 yard gain or loss

( Maybe the past TOSU qbs lack of success was due to the coaches , well now is the perfect time to correct those wrongs )

And a lot of their collegiate accolades are bc kd of their rushing ability / what they did w their legs.

Even Josh Allen is more mobile/ willing to run than Stroud , cmon

I’m not saying we have to run a Nebraska tommy Frazier style offense but at least tell the QB to use his speed when thr play breaks down or there are WIDE OPEN running lanes

When CJ Stroud puts up a nice 40 time at the combine I’m going to get annoyed all over again

OSU landed the #1 QB and #1 overall recruit in the country for the 2024 class. If you cant win with back to back first round draft picks and a room full of 5 star recruits then your problems lie elsewhere.

if you want names I have Hartline and Vrabel. that's it. and Vrabel may not want any part of the college game at this point.

and is currently leading the NFL in rushing among qb's. and you didn't like him either.

not sure where you're getting this 'trend' of not running the qb.

stroud's refusal to run was certainly a weak point but it didnt cost us the game. we didnt need Stroud running the ball or JSN catching passes in order to beat a mediocre ass mich team at home.

the overarching problem with the offense is that it lacks an identity and the play calling is erratic and all over the map. and i think that's why they struggle so much in short yardage situations because they dont exactly know what they do well. 4th and 2 and you're throwing low percentage shots 15 yards down the field to your tight end?

if you can't win the big 10 with a first round NFL qb you have a coaching and philosophical problem not a qb talent problem.

I think he breaks that defense for a long td run or two in the first half, and that changes the narrative, I’m certain he’s a 4.4 guy at least

If he was in any other major conference, or played at USC or Eugene, he'd be getting deep throated.

there's your media bias.

that being said, the Pac-12 as a conference (not speaking on the teams in it) is TRASH.

i think Williams runs more, but Penix has like two college football games more of passing yards.

i'm not saying he SHOULD win anything, i'm saying he should be mentioned. he's literally not mentioned at all.

he was the highest rated QB this week, like 10 places ahead of Williams.

i'm literally asking how this works as well. like, does the school and conference have to be "promoting" him?

he's the #1 passer in college footbal. you'd think people would show him some love.

if Penix had USC's talent around him? who knows what he'd be doing beyond what he IS doing.

(also, he's not the #1 passer in yardage only, he's also #1 in like 3 or 4 other passing stats)

the point is he's literally not mentioned when he's arguably the best passing QB (sorry he doesn't run around a bunch like Williams) in college football on a team that had very little expectations this year off a coaching change and BAD season last year where the team had a bunch of guys transfer out. he's turned two relatively "no name" receivers on UW into 1000 yard WRs this season.

again, i'm not saying he should WIN any awards. at the end of the day, awards are nice but overall they are pointless.

it IS weird that he's not mentioned/considered.

then your team needs to be in CFP contention with multiple “Heisman moments” in big games that have playoff implications.

Kinda like in pro leagues it’s tough/impossible to be the MVP on a non-playoff team.

Washington would be *nothing* without him

they went 10-2 and gave up at least 20 points to everyone except FCS Portland St and a Colorado team that might be the worst major conference team in college football history

33 to Wazzu
39 to Arizona
28 to MSU
20 to Kent St even

he's their everything, and its an honest testament to his greatness that Washington is headed to a NY6 game

i realize Heisman isn't an MVP award, and even in those they ignore the word "valuable," LOL.

and again, i don't necessarily think he should win, but he should be in the conversation.

if Dylan Moore (his backup and last year's starter) was still playing? UW is probably a 3 win team, with zero big wins.

they are 10-2, with wins over 4 or 5 (i forget) ranked teams. Penix has 4300 yards and turned two relatively random WRs into 1000 yard receivers.

For comparison, Kenny Pickett threw for less yards (more TD should be noted) last year on an 11-3 Pitt team (not in the playoff, not close to being in) and was 3rd in Heisman voting.

people acting like i'm crazy in here for saying this.

and want to ride for your guy I barely pay attention to the Pac-10 these days, if I wasn't watching the OU-Texas game last year when Williams came in the game as a true freshman I probably wouldn't know who he was lol

Obviously because of the success he and Lincoln Riley have had in their first year at USC I am aware of what he is doing and I've caught some of their last 2 games against UCLA and ND and I hear you going on about Penix and I had to ask the honest question was he better than Williams.

You're the one that seems to be in your feelings lol

however, i'm not emotional about Penix, because I don't PERSONALLY care if he wins any awards, or if he's even considered.

in fact, it's probably better for us, should he forego the draft which i think he will, if he's ignored because if he's like most athletes, he'll take that personally (c) Jordan.

the point i'm making is that a QB doing what he's done this season should be in consideration for ALL the awards a QB can win, and he's not.

it doesn't make much sense.

he's thrown for 600 more yards than Williams.

and, again, i don't CARE who is better. i am saying how is he not being considered? you keep talking about who is better and Williams is on a better team. well, first thing, these aren't team awards. yes, someone will always be seen as better. like, whoever wins the Heisman will be deemed "better" than the candidates who didn't win it. i'm saying HOW IS HE NOT A CANDIDATE?!?!? that's it.

again, if you didn't read it, he's thrown for more yards than Kenny Pickett did last year, with a similar record on a team that won't be in the playoffs, like Pickett's. but pickett was 3rd in Heisman voting. so again, HOW IS HE NOT A CANDIDATE!?!?

why do you keep bringing that up?

i'll put this in all caps so maybe you can get it:

I DON'T CARE WHO IS BETTER. WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT WHO IS BETTER. "BETTER" IS SUBJECTIVE. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT WHY IS HE NOT BEING CONSIDERED FOR POST SEASON QB AWARDS. THAT'S IT. THAT'S ALL. THOSE AWARDS ARE NOT BASED ON WHETHER THERE IS A GUY WHO IS IN THE SAME CONFERENCE WHO MIGHT BE BETTER AND WHO HAS A BETTER TEAM. TWO GUYS FROM THE SAME CONFERENCE CAN BE CONSIDERED. IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE. MANY TIMES.

SO, TALK ABOUT THAT, OR SHUT UP ABOUT WHO'S BETTER.

SMH.

For example Caleb Williams wasn’t being talked about as the clear leader this year until it was clear that USC had a shot at the CFP…

being discussed because the initial question was “why” he isn’t being talked about. I’m just discussing the reasons why. I absolutely don’t agree that it’s how it “should” be.

I think the big reason that it’s this way is because there are SO many teams and players in CFB. So the media tends to narrow down the discussion. It starts out before the season with Heisman watch candidates, and those players end up getting an advantage because they are in the conversation early. Then as the weeks go by, that list tends to be updated based on the best teams and the best players on those teams. The sportswriters wrote about players who are generating the most clicks, so all of that creates bias.

None of that should matter at all, but because it’s the media who votes on the award it ends up being a thing where they choose the winner based on the biased narrative that they created themselves.

but the better question is why would anyone be so pressed about whether or not he was named a finalist for some dumb award that nobody even cares about? these awards have been a joke for the longest. the only one people really care about is the heisman and we all know the criteria for that award is pretty silly.

USC slight favorite, say 55% chance to win
TCU slight favorite, say 55% chance to win

the odds of both teams winning would be 30%

if one or both loses, OSU will be in

hence 70%

Bama lost close on road twice to two good teams , one a walkoff FG another in OT

And FRAUD Ohio State is ahead of Alabama simply on virtue of having 1 loss and beating a barrel of Jabronis?

I hate defending Alabama but that’s horseshit

And in the case of OSU vs. Alabama I don’t even know if Bama has “better losses” since they lost twice. Two close losses to good teams isn’t clearly better than one big loss to a GREAT team. If we opening it up to two loss teams there are several who could make an argument.

That being said, OSU’s resume is better in terms of who they’ve actually beaten, and to me that’s more important.

and getting blown out at home does mean something -- all the other top 7 playoff teams only have road losses

but luckily for them, Penn State kept winning (their Notre Dame win evaporated after Marshall won in South Bend)

they are the taller midget compared to bama

hell, Tennessee should be ranked over bama based on results, but I'm sure the committee is punishing them for Hooker's injury

these are all dumb arguments since neither Ohio State or bama *deserve* to be in any playoff this season

nobody who watched that game would say that it was some sort of fundamental mismatch in the vein of uga/oregon.

the committee's agenda (I think) is to get competitive matchups and ratings and they don't have much of a pool to choose from right now.

as i said, osu would be lined as a small favorite against mich in a rematch.

In 2021. And they will be favored to win a second Big10 title.

Currently have a 24-2 two year record and their CFP playoff loss was to the eventual National Champion Georgia team, that also had an all time great defense.

I would say they have played at a great/elite level theses last two seasons.

in the defensive schemes, beyond being John Harbaugh's brother and bringing in staff from the Ravens to run it. The issues with mobile QBs, RPOs, and slants were a Don Brown thing where all he knew was blitzing and more blitzing...

But to your point we haven't really dealt with that. Our defense was built to stop pro style offenses.

Prolly the first time I've seen that in 20 years.

And yeah, I honestly don't know about our defense. It's statistically strong, and the second half statistics are historically strong. But in watching the games I haven't really seen some kind of genius second half adjustments. Our offensive style of wearing down opposing defenses by the second half and then playing the possession game to limit time on the field by opposing offenses is the big reason why our second half defensive numbers are crazy.

I've watched highlights from The Game all week. It was weird, because that WASN'T our typical possession game type of thing in the second half. It was more of a bend but don't break defense along with some strange playcalling by Day like you mentioned.

Against our D I woulda been throwing the ball over the top to Harrison and Egbuka every play, and using QB runs to get first downs when needed.

Stepped into a roster that won 3 games last year, developed some players, snagged a couple key transfers, and ripped off one of the 7 best Duke seasons in the last 60 years in his very first try.

Like... unfathomable. Hard for me to not dismiss as fluky. But Duke better throw the fucking Brinks truck at him to get him to stay.

I am not a Bama fan but I don’t hate them either…I love Bryce Young though.

I just want to see people get mad as shit.

There is a huge possibility of USC and TCU losing this upcoming weekend….

Bama lost two games in the final seconds….Tenn got smashed by an unranked team and
OSU got munched on in their own stadium.
