Had dudes on a Steeler board saying his name even though they never watched him play a down.
I started peaking just to see if he was legit and dude has been TRASH every time I watched him.
But the commentators rave about how he has everything you want in a QB.

I did, and it wasn't pretty
vs Iowa -- 23/40 for 131 yards (4.4 yards per attempt!) and 2 INT (to be fair there was a long dropped TD in this one) vs Oregon -- 9/24 for 64 yards (!) and 1 INT vs Boise State -- 12/27 (44%!) for 131 yards and 2 INT
oh, but what about the comparable teams
vs Hawaii -- 9/19 for 92 yards and 1 TD vs Colorado State -- 10/20 for 138 yards and 0 TD

If today's performance by Coach Drink and the Tigers is (now) worth 6M, then the athletic department would go bankrupt paying for a win.
I'm being hard on him now, but I mostly like him. He's been a solid recruiter, and the program has more liveliness.
But he sure as hell didn't deserve that extension. For as likable a man as he is the growth on the field has been equally as disappointing.
It's Year 3 and I have no idea what to think of him in the job he's supposed to be paid for which is coaching up players and putting them in positions where they'll succeed.
We've been to two bowls, which for us is important, but he hasn't had an outright winning season. (overall records 15-18)
Also, I have no idea what our identity as a team is. Are we trying to be clever? Are we trying to out-hustle opponents? Are we leaning into offense? Or defense?
He seems the bizarro version of Odom. Odom didn't have much charisma and his teams seemed to have the same issues on defense year to year, but I always felt like those teams maximized their talent. Drink is very charismatic and represents the program well, but I don't think much of him as an in-game coach and a shaper of young talent into productive assets on gameday.
I don't think I have the same outsized expectations some fans have of the program, but I'm really interested to see how the team performs next year when he has more of his own players.

Which is something that made sense to say after the COVID year or even last year, but not this deep into Year 3.
The situation can only be described as "unclear." Like, is the difficulty moving the ball because of the scheme? Talent? We don't have any 4 or 5 star skill players so it could be the talent. But then again, since Drink is supposed to be a guru, shouldn't be able to scheme the talent into something more productive? I dunno.

LOL. Yeah, they play hard, which seems to be half the battle in CFB.

Oregon is still Oregon. Lose early and go on a winning a streak to get back into the CFP playoff conversation and then drop a game right at the end of the season to end those hopes have become routine and expected at this point.

now, think about 12 teams. Next Saturday has 1/10000000000000000000th the impact, drama, urgency, etc that its going to have this season. But BRACKETS!!!!
