"NBA players are standing up against Kyrie’s excessive "
Tue Nov-08-22 12:17 PM by allStah

retribution.

Let’s see what Lebron does. He had an opportunity to combat
the excessive requisites that Kyrie must satisfy in order to return to
the team. He did none of that.

My brother Jaylen Brown and the NBAPA have stepped up and said
GTFOH.

If the NETs don’t rescind their demands, players should unify and refuse to
play games until Kyrie is rightfully reinstated.

I hope this leads to putting Adam Silver ole genocide supporting ass under fire,
as well as the NBA

Jaylen Brown has a powerful mind!

“We don’t want to stand up for somebody in order to not condemn hate speech, but I don’t believe Kyrie Irving is antisemitic. And hopefully the NBA feels the same way … There is an interesting distinction between what somebody says verbally and what somebody posts as a link on a platform with no description behind it. Some people will argue there’s no difference and some people will argue there is a difference. There’s no language in our CBA. There’s no rules against it. This is uncharted territory for everybody, and everybody is trying to figure out the difference between the two.”

are gonna forego money, and possibly damage their reputations which damages the ability to get more money....for Kyrie's stupidity?

we'll see, but don't hold your breath.

i'm not even saying they shouldn't. those demands, DESPITE Kyrie's mistakes, are kinda wild, and if down the road they make a mistake they might have to do something similar, so maybe they should boycott or whatever you wanna call it.

but, yeah...i don't see it.

This is a union issue, and that's all JB is doing: his job.

I seriously doubt anyone is striking over Kyrie's nonsense though.

If there's nothing in their CBA, this is going to be a tough one for the league to win IMO.

They'll argue this shit down a LOT, and what remains will likely be just enough to save face.

They don't really have a leg to stand on if they don't have something in the CBA that specifically addresses this.

The one caveat, is that Kyrie will have to show some contrition, because there is doubtless SOME language in there about conduct detrimental to the team/league/etc.

So if he can't swallow his pride just enough to show some contrition here, that would be the thread they pull to get a little more out of him.

But I doubt that happens.

They had little choice to make a show of coming down hard, likely expected the union to intervene, and are already prepared for a lesser punishment.

I don’t think it will be a strong argument though, because you’re still getting into stuff that’s not in the CBA. The fact that his apology sucked and his donation wasn’t accepted certainly makes him look bad, but I doubt they’ll have a leg to stand on as far as it being punishable, especially where they already game him a suspension.

They're going to rep him, as they should, and negotiate this shit down.

The L overplayed their hand on this one and the final punishment will be significantly less.

If, as JB states, there is no language in the CBA to govern this sort of issue, then the final punishment will be peanuts in comparison.

Nobody is boycotting a damn thing over Kyrie.

What will happen, is this- along with a LOT of other things, i.e, load management, guaranteed contracts for continually injured players, RFA, etc, will be fodder for the owners to address in the next CBA.

None of his deflections are relevant to the NBA
The league was able to remove 2 owners recently for racist behavior
Start there.

Kyrie's been trolling for attention for awhile now
This is not the first transgression
The earth is flat was 5 years ago
... should've been the first signal...
He escalated to retweeting Alex Jones, while he's on trial for defamation
Then tweets a link for a movie perceived as antisemitic... after Kanye goes on a perceived antisemitic rant

who are retired.

Meyers Leonard made an anti-Jewish slur in a video game chat and he is out of the league.

Part of the reason Robert Sarver doesn't own the Suns is because of racial slurs.

If Jon Gruden ever wants to come back to the NFL in any capacity he will have to go on a major apology tour.

Kyrie didn't make a racial slur but he promoted a video via social media that was offensive to a lot of people.

He’s just another (criminally overrated ) employee . Basketball doesn’t need Kyrie , and Kyrie clearly doesn’t need basketball.

Shut up , bend the knee , apologize or languish in basketball purgatory .

Broke back buck…not broke back mountain. It was a play on words,
an alliteration.

People feel that Kyrie is being BUCKED, so I joked with him and called him
broke back buck because he doesn’t think that is what is happening to Kyrie.
It has nothing to do with gay or any reference to being gay.

It’s in reference to being BUCKED.

Not that I expect you to fathom that.

Broke Back Bucked, to be clear 😉

You said it, I dunno why you’re pissy about someone acknowledging the clear meaning of the thing you said, as though

A. There aren’t other words beginning with B to form your alliteration, and

B. That Broke Back isn’t a nearly universal reference to the fucking- not focking, say it like a fucking adult for crying out loud- movie.

>Not that I expect you to fathom that.

Lmao there was nothing to “fathom@. It was 100% surface

And as I already said, you pick and choose when you want to be perfectly civil, and when you want to crack on someone.

My worry on that is how black coaches tend to catch hell getting GOOD jobs. Or even POTENTIALLY GOOD jobs. Lovie with the Texans for instance. Hugh Jackson with Cleveland after not getting a full shot with the Raiders as another.

Maybe it is better in the NBA? Maybe? Slightly?

The "conditions" were bad faith and absurd. Kyrie issued a formal apology and acknowledged how hateful/harmful the content was. It felt like people were projecting their distaste of Kyrie because of other issues (ridiculous flat-earth comments, vaccine stance etc..) and using that to fuel and inflame this controversy unfairly.

Another notch on the brave, bold leadership legacy of LeBron James. Once he spoke out, the tides turned and the NBA/Tsai will now normalize relations with Kyrie and let him play basketball. Not that there weren't voices out there saying this (Williams, Brown etc.) - but the gravity changes when someone of LeBron's stature speaks out.

Also, the ADL acted in bad faith throughout this process. Not a huge surprise given Jonathan Greenblatt's Trumpian track record of dehumanizing Palestinians and hyperbolically equating legitimate criticism of Netanyahu's government/far-right Zionist Nationalism with anti-Semitism.

The hateful content in the video was rightfully called out - and Amazon should also be party to this conversation as well as they are the ones who *actually* have promoted this video on its platform. Not sure how Bezos got to slide on this one, while Kyrie was basically slandered as a neo-Nazi.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/10/sports/basketball/kyrie-irving-antisemitic-adam-silver.html

WASHINGTON — N.B.A. Commissioner Adam Silver said Thursday that he didn’t believe Nets guard Kyrie Irving was antisemitic after meeting with him in person this week at the league’s headquarters in Manhattan. Irving has been facing backlash for promoting an antisemitic film on Twitter last month.

“We had a direct and candid conversation,” Silver, who is Jewish, said in an interview with The New York Times, adding, “He’s someone I’ve known for a decade, and I’ve never heard an antisemitic word from him or, frankly, hate directed at any group.”

In a follow-up phone conversation, Silver added, “Whether or not he is antisemitic is not relevant to the damage caused by the posting of hateful content.”

--

for the record, this is about Kyrie's dumbass posting. not painting him as prime evil as some of these go-along-get along liberals are doing.

I said it with DeSean Jackson, that there are levels to this shit, and some powerful people are pretending that these misguided Negroes are on the same level as the people who run up in synagogues shooting up people because they are Jewish, or out here brandishing their Neo-Nazi bonafides.

they are no threat to Jewish people IMO, they are dumbasses who subscribe to beliefs that the coincidence of Jewish ethnicity in capital power centers is the same as a conspiracy that they are the reason capitalism does what it does.

but crackers ain't trying to hear that because it's easy to put a Negro up there as a scapegoat because they don't have to do the hard work.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

In response to Reply # 0

I hope I articulate this correctly and come off the way I wanna come off: how does someone of Kyrie's stature go about learning the things that he is trying to learn and express them correctly (I understand correctly is subjective but genuinely interested)?

It's clear that he's made a lot of missteps.

It's clear that he has communication issues at times.

But it's also clear that he's been on this process of learning and unlearning certain things throughout the greater part of his 20's. So genuinely, as a 20-something year old with social media access, huge following, and a large platform, how could he have done some of these things differently?

But to answer your question directly...have friends.

I have life long friends
Whom I consider family
One friend I met in kindergarten

We have conversations about any and everything
I believe that is what's missing in Kyrie's real life
Friends.

People who you can trust
have philosophical conversations with
and will tell you the real

If he had that, I believe that would resolve a lot of his issues.

He's searching for something that's not going to be found on a sm platform

Here's an article about the movie, and it seems like it's directed to the particular type of massive dummy that also fancies himself a bit of an autodidact. Like, there's actual Holocaust denial in it that it just ... doesn't engage because that's not related to the central premise.

This seems like a film for stupid people. The solution to that is to learn something about history and the world. There are all sorts of ways to do that, but the place where that's typically done is school, because teachers are people who've taken a lot of time to develop subject-matter expertise and the skill to teach it to people. Feels crazy to have to type that, but there it is: school is good.

and the fastest way to get famous in America is to convince stupid people you're smart by saying stupid things that they can "logically" follow.

the path of least resistance appears to be a never ending sequence of false equivalence after false equivalence, but also effective is the "rhetorical" question that stupid people dont know the answer to, so they assume its unknowable. this method relies on the tendency for stupid people to DRASTICALLY underestimate how much knowledge that exists beyond the ends of their own noses.
