Honestly you forget a lot of details leading up to the construction of the team and about the criticism of hiring Coach K. It’s mostly a puff piece, of course - there’s not much drama outside of the last game - but it’s a really compelling doc and just a lot of fun.
Kobe was different. Of course, he’s remembered glowingly here…but he really did take that last game over. It was so dope to see.
This board was particularly popping that night IIRC. Fun watch.

..it showed growth.
Kobe was a leader who only knew how to show. He needed to learn a new language.
At the same time, the youngin's were in desperate need of a leader they could relate to. Someone with old world experience, but with new world vision. They found that in Kobe, but only once he relented and showed them that he could/would trust them.
The fact that it happened on an international stage for all of us to see in real time is priceless.

They usually talk about the impact on their off-season preparation or gain insight into their peers' fierce competitive spirit.
But in the case of Kobe, it seems the experience allowed him to workshop leadership skills. As you said, Kobe's old methods didn't grant him the team success he desperately wanted. So, he took the opportunity to learn how to defer but still take the lead when needed. Proof that even the legends need obstacles to take their talents to the next level.

at training camp in Vegas the guys were coming in from the club at 5-6am and Kobe was up on his way to the gym. And most of the other guys started to follow that example. That's who Kobe always was he didn't "change" like other people are suggesting. Obviously his game evolved over the years but his approach was always the same. Different teammates responded in different ways.

Bc he had no help. Shit if that came out in 08....hilarity!
-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
