i mean, i didn't expect much cuz we're just not there yet, but didn't think it'd be 3-0 before the half.

even on the few times we've been threatening we've been bereft of any good ideas in the final third.

doesn't help that Varane was off the field for Haaland's first goal, plus Haaland is just too good for our defense at the moment.

now Varane off and Lindelof on...what's Victor Lindelof gonna do w/ Haaland?

have a good day, gents.

Good win by Chelsea. I’m still on the fence about Potter, but all personal feelings aside,
I’ll take the win.

All I want is a top 4 finish, and for Todd Boehly to be shipped back to America.

Auba is in fantastic form!…

This was his response to a question about Cameron Archer, who was not sent on loan presumably to get some run with the first team:

“"He's only done one full session. Is he chomping at the bit? 100 per cent. You're a fan of Cameron, you, aren't ya? Or are you a mate of the family? Something's going on because you've asked me 25 questions this year and I reckon 19 have been on Cam Archer. You're a fan aren't ya?"”

What a fucking clown.

Something more embarrassing than lashing out at the local beat reporter, that is.

But it’s not even the results-it’s the performances. They did significant business like right when last season ended. Nobody missed major time in the summer for International duty/resting, and all season they’ve looked as if they met for the first time in the car park before the match.

Fifa virus hit us hard as it always seems to. We didn't play great on Saturday, but did enough to get the win. These next few weeks are gonna be crucial though. Inter tomorrow in UCL and looking at the Clasico coming up in just a few weeks. Hopefully folks start trickling back into the team soon.

Shit is ridiculous how they destroy careers

Look at Sancho and Maguire…and now Casemiro.

Potter giving Chalobah some tick is a beautiful thing. Tuchel brought him up last season,
and he made some good appearances, but then he got put on the back burner due to
all the management chaos that took place. It’s good to see him get more opportunities
because he his a stud in the making. I’m still devastated that we let his brother leave the
club. The chalobah brothers are very talented.

Broja is slowly but surely coming along. I think in time he will be a solid striker. Today
he showcased his class.

I do like the fact that Potter has the ability to play many different formations, so
far we have seen 3-4-3, 4-3-3, and 5-4-1. I’m still feeling him out, but so far so good.
My only gripe is he seems to favor Kepa over Mendy, and that could very well cost
him down the road. Mendy got injured and during that time Kepa did play well, but now
that Mendy is healthy he is still being benched. Kepa’s history as our GK is just muddled
in too much failure to trust him for the long term….hopefully, this doesn’t tune into come
GK controversy.

But, hey, we are playing well, and headed in the right direction.

Top 4, baby.

For us to go through, we have to beat Bayern and Plzen AND they have to lose to both. If they beat Plzen (who they play next), they're through. Even if we win out and they win against Plzen and lose to Bayern, we'll be level on points and they'll go through on head-to-head score (4-3).

Goddammit.

they can tie pilzen and we can still get through. they just can't win and we have to win out.

neither is likely.

just play the kids. balde. ansu. hell, even torres and fdj too.

what sucks the most is that:

1. absolutely no reason to not start balde against inter
2. absolutely no way in hell they let in at least 2 of those goals if Kounde OR Araujo were available to play.
3. the denied penalty and the denied goal against inter in round 1 now massively important. fucking hell.

Never quite pinpointed this before, but I flipped on Spurs/Everton at 12:30, and after a few minutes, had an epiphany: I just don't give a shit about Spurs at all. No interest in watching them play. Doesn't matter how well they're playing, or how poorly. Just don't care. Complete indifference. The only team in the world I feel this way about. They exist, but if one day they suddenly didn't anymore I might not even notice they were gone.

busquets at fault for a goal. roberto just a coward and also at fault. kounde could have covered, but didn't. i can blame rust for that and he shouldn't have had to.

garcia unlucky but also needs to be better.

busquets also just didn't add anything. fdj was definitely better for the team in that position. ansu fati brought the normal dembele style of being willing to attack one on one (which dembele, oddly, wasn't doing) and raphinha was just meh.

the defense is shambles without araujo and busi isn't what he was in big matches where other midfields have skill and speed.

xavi's scheme was also too predictable, but there were some decent moments in the build up but roberto and busi slowed it down too damn often.

hopefully this ends that era of players' consistency in starting big games. gavi brought so much more to the pitch than busi.

And back in Xavi's playing days, the teams that beat us played that same way -- parked the bus and played for the counter. It was really frustrating to see how slowly we were playing the ball for the first 75 minutes of the damn game. We absolutely have to play with tempo. I'm starting to feel like it's time for Fati to move into the starting line-up, if it's not too big a risk. Busquets gotta go to the bench.
And while I'm not blaming the recent struggles on the officiating, it does feel like the refs are trolling us at this point.

aboslutely Fati time. Absolutely time for Busi to be benched regularly. My only quasi-justification is there's a plan for Fati to ramp up activity to avoid injury (maybe?) and maybe the strategic flaws were due to barca's lack of 1/2 of its starting level backline. because when garcia pushed the ball up himself and/or when runs were made in between the winger and Lewa holding the ball, that was when good attacking moments happened (Fati's run was in a similar space). Really think the gala XI should be a 3-4-3 of kounde,araujo,garcia/christensen in the back, pedri/fdj/gavi/kessie and then pick your attackers based on form (though I'd note torres and fati seem to fit that style best).

or maybe a 4-2-3-1 with a fdj/kessie double pivot. but the 4-3-3 with busi doesn't work against parked busses. and he was too timid with his positioning and passing in the final third, so there weren't enough options to be threatening. it was too easy for madrid.

It's clear that against a team that is looking to counter, the midfield has to be gavi/pedri/fdj or kessie in for one of them. busi simply doesn't have the legs and slows possession down too much.

100% agreed. VAR has been trash, but simply not ok to be in a position where that matters.

He's almost as left footed as Arjen Robben..

That probably should have been 2-0 (we'll see what the XG is), but whatever.

Most impressive thing to me is Arsenal shut down Gakpo. Reverse fixture will be interesting.

Xavi Simons looks promising.

so did Tierney and Jesus

PSV has been so one-sided so far this year bc of the injuries and Gakpo already has 25ish goal involvements. which is fine for generic Eredivisie opponents, but not Europe/Ajax/Feyenoord. with Madueke and LDJ back that should balance things out.

and yeah idk why PSG sold Simons outright with no buy-back but im cool with it lol

and, he could be useful to us if he was flexible about his role.

Two corners told the story of Gerrard's management. The first was a Fulham corner. Villa cleared it easily, but the ball broke, and Fulham had a second bank of 3-4 players hanging out on the edge of the 18. There was no one there from Villa to challenge the shot. Down the other end, Villa throws everyone forward and near to the goal line. Even if Douglas Luiz hits one of his inswingers and frightens Leno, there's no one from Villa positioned for the second ball. Fulham, though, have some of their players ready to defend the second, and because of that, they easily start a 5-on-2 counter.

Gerrard has no idea how to set up a team for a competitive league.

The setup of the squad is well-suited for Poch or Frank. Gerrard signings aside we have a fairly young squad that can play with intensity. The width has been transferred out of the club, but for right now, Watkins could play on the left and Buendia or Bailey on the right of a proper 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 (and we can recall Traore from his loan). We have two sets of fullbacks (Young/Digne/Augustinson left and Cash/Guilbert/Young right) if Poch wants to repeat what he was doing at Spurs to alternate that unit.

and some of those PL formations. Not true at all.

Some matches require 3-4-3 and some don’t. I will trust
an actually coach with winning experiences, and his unbeaten.

Did we play well today? No. Is there need to go off the deep end?

No

Matches against MU are always tough and usually end in a draw. It’s a huge
rivalry.

We got the point, 6 points off the lead, and in the top 4.

when you think both teams are evenly matched going into a game and the road team comes out with the progressive lineup you gotta question potter's tactics. the same tactics that got the last manager fired. shit is so predictable at this point. difference is that it's getting harder for chelsea to grind out that one ugly goal and/or jorgino penalty.

Mendy is longer and has great reaction speed. I just don’t trust Kepa in critical
moments. He has produced some clean sheets, but something always goes
wrong in the end with him.

Not a great display of football by Chelsea, but we got a point. I’ll take it. It was good
tough match as it always is with MU

And Potter is still unbeaten at Chelsea. Potter is convincing me. Kante is basically out for the season, so we are missing a very important player.

It is what it is. Let’s regroup and carry on

We’re still top 4 and liverpool lost today. I’m happy. 6 points off of first place.

it it wasn't for stupid ass McTominay we get the result we deserved perhaps.

Chelsea was completely bereft of ideas the entire game.

Lisandro Martinez had that loser ass Mason Mount in his back pocket.

happy with the performance, not the result. definitely could have used some oomph up front.

Jadon Sancho continues to be "what the hell happened to that guy?"

Team was way too talented for the performances they’ve been putting out and that showed it.

Solid appointment. Looks to be a good match for the talent we have in attack, and a MASSIVE tactical upgrade on Slippy.

Aaron Danks gets one more game in charge before Emery takes over, too, which he's more than earned.

And Kepa gave up 3 goals..this is why you don’t play him as a starter, but I guess
Potter has to learn the hard way.

Pulisic is an energizer bunny only, and is just too small in my opinion.
Hopefully he wasn’t forced to start him by the ToddFather.

Mendy should get the start from here on out

What a shit show today.

Reece James is missed big time, as well as Kante.

Let’s regroup and come with a better starting 11…no more
Pulisic or Kepa.

He should be in over your boy mount. Also not sure why auba didn’t start, but I’m grateful

Agreed otherwise

Obviously Brighton were up for it v their former manager
