It’s a 7 part documentary about Derek Jeter, and the first part is
on right now on ESPN

Now batting for the Yankees, number 2, Derek Jeter…..number 2

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

the chance to see some in-depth stuff. I was watching something on ESPN where they had the director on and they showed a short clip pertaining to Jeter and his relationship with Arod and the tension (or perceived tension), when he came to the Yankees.

Derek Jeter was one of the most famous baseball players on and
off the field along side Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey, Jr, A-Rod,etc,
during that era.

He has more than earned his right to have a 7 part documentary,
and that has nothing to do with rivaling Jordan, or anything about Jordan.
If you’re not well educated on baseball, that’s your problem. But mid
90s to mid 2000s it was all about the Yanks and Derek Jeter, as well as
other baseball players and franchises. It’s one of the greatest eras in
baseball history.

This is when there was no streaming, or social platform, and society
had a higher attention span.

No sports legacy or history in America is richer or greater than baseball,
Black or White. The first black and white team sports legends and heroes
started with baseball.

Ruth,DiMaggio,Robinson, Negro leagues,etc...Your perception and observation
is simple your own.

The purpose of this thread is to celebrate Jeter....not express INCORRECT information.

Ep 1, the backstory
Eps 2-6 the chips/911
Ep 7, the close, hof/business ventures

You do realize bro won 5 chips...?
5.
On the biggest stage
For the most historic sports franchise
That was ending an era of dogshit seasons
as The Captain
Etc...

Pretty compelling IMO

IDK how you even compare a baseball player to a basketball player
...but one thing we know for sure...
MJ couldn't hit.

One thing that hit me, considering where this series could go...
Bro rose to prominence during the steroid era
...and the biggest scandal that can be reported is...
The Captain of the NYY bangs a lot of women
I expect it to be mentioned... but a whole episode...God I hope not
They ran the ARod segment as a teaser
...but again...
Jeter seems to be intimating that ARod is an a$$hole...insert pearl clutch

IMO, there's so many baseball moments in his 20 year career
You don't actually need the clickbait.

I think some of the sentiment that's been posted is actually a testament to his greatness...and the 'blandness' is compelling in itself

I remember...
People hated Jeter. HATED!
Insert baseball and NYC racism
But beyond that...I recall the hate for him as a player
6'3" SS
The jump throw, etc...
= he's ruining the game.

I think people forget some of that... because he won almost immediately...and won a lot

The 'blandness' and absence of scandal
Is actually compelling to me

A blackman from Kalamazoo decided he was going to play SS for the NYY at 4YO, and achieving, not only that goal, but also becoming an all-time great

He's referred to as the Captain, for a franchise that is littered with historical greats...

What are we talking about here?
Getting Chad and Karen to tune in?
F that, keep it baseball.

On their life.

One has nothing to do with the other.

I’m sure some will be enthralled by it. That’s cool. Ain’t for me tho. I’m not much of a tv person in general. Live sports and that’s about it for me nowadays barring something really great. Personal preferences.

A comparison was made to the bulls era/documentary and i agreed with that person that Jordan and the bulls were more interesting. Given that it’s a fucking opinion, I’m entitled to have it. And you’re entitled to disagree.

And that’s really all it is.

was alarming.

Also, George Steinbrenner treating Dave Winfield unfairly is what led
to the Yankees selecting the talented players that they selected. George was
suspended from baseball for 2 years, which gave the GM total control
to just focus on draft prospects...

And Dave Winfield was Jeter’s favorite player growing up, so the relativity
with that, as well as Derek’s grandmother being a huge yankee’s fan and teaching
Derek how to play baseball, makes one think it was just pure destiny with how Derek
became a Yankee.

they always scouted & drafted well: Fred McGriff, Jose Rijo, Jay Buhner, etc. Then Steinbrenner would get impatient and force them to trade their young talent off for fading veterans (my baseball people love Ken Phelps' bat. They kept saying 'Ken Phelps , Ken Phelps'). With the Boss on ice, they were finally able to develop their young talent without him selling them all off.

LOL - Jeter's dad taught him how to play baseball, he had played shortstop in college.

yeah it's pretty amazing how everything broke so perfectly in Jeter's favor to pave his way to the Bronx at the exact moment the modern Yankee dynasty was rising.

player.

But his grandmother taught him, too, during his little league years, and was the huge influence on him being a yankee fan and wanting to play for the yankees

I wasn’t saying as if she was his true and only teacher.....
but Derek doesn’t become Derek without the existence and influence
of his grandmother and her passion for baseball and everything Yankees

It's a cool part of the storybook narrative of Jeter's career. But I'm pretty sure he would've still been slashing inside-out opposite field line drives, making jump throws & diving futilely at grounders going by him in the hole at short in Yankee Stadium regardless of what team his grandmother was a fan of when he was a kid.
